The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Not Game of Thrones 2.0 ...... and that's great!
I'm impressed: So it's still possible to make a good series without nudity, excessive violence and swear words everywhere. Unfortunately, the general public is far too jaded by GoT and other series nowadays, to enjoy a relaxed but good series with a good story, intelligent dialogue, great acting and beautiful pictures.
The first episode did not catch me that much but the more I am watching, the more I enjoy it. First I was scared that they ruin it by putting to much of the zeitgeist in it. All in all, I think it's a great series until now, even if there is still potential for improvement. A refreshing alternative to all the nonsense on Netflix etc.
Eternals (2021)
by far the best MCU project since Endgame
I had doubts to watch it in the cinema after all the bad critics. But I have to say, it was really good and I enjoyed it. The actors are great, the story makes sense and is suprising. I really enjoyed the settings. Babylon for example looked awesome. All in all a solid MCU movie!
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
I mean... what did you expect?
I really cant understand these bad critics. You know that you are going to watch a kids movie with Lebron playing basketball with the Looney Tunes... come on, the expectations cant be that high.... yes, it was hilarious and nonsense in some scenes, but that is what Looney Tunes is all about! I just think the expectations of the people are way too high nowadays. If you take nostalgia aside, it is even better than the first movie.
For me, it was an entertaining movie and I just enjoyed watching it from the start till the end. I liked the idea to switch from a real existing tune world to a barely alive tune world in the Warner Bros network. Also the message of the movie was wholesome. For me, the best part of the movie are all the little fanservice/insider jokes for 90s kids. It was like travelling back to our childhood.
All in all it was a nice movie and it fully met my expectations.
Castlevania (2017)
Season 4 is not from this world!
Castlevania is a great series but season 4 is just amazing! What a great writing, character development and animations! It is awesome!
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Not a bad movie but too long
This is by far not the best DC movie of the last years.
But sorry, you can't take serious any rating below 4 stars! The plot is a little predictable and lame at some points... but the acting is great, nice camera play, special effects and sound. In summary, i did not regret watching it, but they could have shorten the movie for 30-50 min.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019)
A great game with some idiotic concepts
Sekiro is not a bad game, actually pretty good. It's fun to fight and a beautiful setting.
BUT there are some concepts which really annoyed me and make it to the weakest From Software game in the last years. One of these concepts is the "Unseen Aid": It should give the players the Dark Souls typical pressure to be scared of dying, but it doesnt. From start until the end of the game I was maybe ONE single time happy that Unseen Aid saved my exp. and coins. The other 3000 times I died, I didnt even cared, since you dont are able to gather so much money, or there is even nothing you need to buy with it. You won't lose that much experience neither.
This leads me to the second point: In 20 years of gaming experience I never played a game that was full of so much useless items. For example, you have a limited item that gives you a boost over a short time period in strength. So far so good, but it gives you literally 20% more damage for maybe 15 seconds (!)... I mean... are you serious? Or, you have an item that gives you a higher chance of collecting money, but the effect stays for 1 min. I didnt find any sense in using any of these items and there are many other things which are really unnecessary and it would have changed nothing, if they wouldn't have integrated them into the game.
Tenet (2020)
A logic-mess
I am a big fan of Nolan movies, but this one is unfortunately a big mess. The pictures and the action of this movie are pretty good. But the plot has too many holes and is on many points way to predictable.
In addition, why is 2020 in most of the US movies still the russians the bad guys? Because they dont have the community to protest against it? Or they just dont care? I dont know... But what I notice is that Hollywood movies nowadays are just a mirror of the societal and political climate.
Dogs of Berlin (2018)
Good show with bad image for german police
First I want to say that it is a really good series with many interesting characters and a complex plot. I enjoyed watching it!
But what you see in these episode is definitely not Berlin and not Germany. This show feels like one big insult against the german police which seems overstrained through out the whole story. Even though some stupid people out there think oppositional, but the german police is one of the best in the world and would not be afraid of a "no-go-area". The only reason why people do not notice this leads me to the second part of my criticism: There are no big mafia clans in Germany which can act as they please. There are some small criminal clans, but they are definetly no threat to society, as shown in this series. I dont know if the writers and producers be aware which image of people from foreign countries they show here. But these things we saw in the show never happened in Germany and will not happen for sure!
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
disappointing
I can not understand the hype about this movie. The story is really boring and linear. They drive away and then they decide to drive back.... that's all. In my opinion: there is too much action and not enough deepness. For example: The reason why Furiora is acting the way she does is just superficial. The audience doesn't get much deeper in her story, just as well the story of Max. You just have to guess. The movie is also very brutal and at some points (in Game of Thrones-style) really disgusting. The women they want to save are really annoying characters and you just cant feel with them. All in all the movie reminds me of the new Riddick, where you also get disappointed in the middle of the movie about the extent of the story. Only the character design and the general style are awesome. In addition the actors Hardy and Theron are sympathetic.
