Chasing Coral (2017)
Beautiful underwater footage (10/10); Anti human rhetoric and propaganda message (0/10)

El Chapo (2017)
Meh. Terrible voice over, CGI effects and story execution..
Watched all of it. The only reason I gave 4 is because of the interesting and intense real life story of El Chapo.. The quality of the show is 1/8 that of Narcos..
The English voice over is so bad it takes me out of the story every few sentences. The voices don't match to the vocal/facial expressions. Also, the voices do not fit with the actors at all.. It's rough...
StartUp (2016)
After the first episode, a bit too much for a show about Startups
~~ SPOILERS ~~
EPISODE 1 ONLY
This show started off pretty nice, some interesting decisions with the direction. It starts with a lot of sex/bad cop stereotypes, which gave me an indication that the show will be packed with irrelevant action to the central subject of the series, startups?
I was pretty right: bad cop, gangsters (even torturing somebody?), sex every 6 minutes..? Seems like a pretty interesting cast.. I will definitely watch more episodes to decide and comeback to edit my review appropriately, but definitely do not expect a serious drama around Startups (serious Silicon Valley type of show) because it will not be what you expected!
All in all, 6/10. Good cinematography, pretty good acting; the script and story line seems way over the top and they miss on delivering about the show's main subject. I have no clue if this is going to calm down to a Halt and Catch Fire type of show, or keep this up and end up being a 24 type of over the top show.
Hope I will change my mind!
The Magicians (2015)
Wayyy wayyyyy worse than the books, after the first 3 episodes, im out.
NO SPOILER Wayyy wayyyyy worse than the books, after the first 3 episodes, im out.
The TV show is decent, I guess, if you haven't read the books.
However, if you read the books, please do yourself a favor and do not watch the TV show. It literally makes me cringe when watching the first few episodes. There is never any explanations of why characters say or do things. It's a dumbed down version of the book with the characters (quentin, alice, etc.) just screaming and being childlike the whole time.
SPOILER !!!! SPOILER !!!!
In the first episode, the director of brakebills gets his eyes pulled out (they basically didn't air the first half of the book. They just got the monster in and, for some crazy reason that bring nothing to the story, they made chapwin tear his eyes out.) The story line is so disappointing, I had such high hopes for the TV show. I'm not going to support the TV show anymore, unless there is reviews at the end of the season that show GRAND changes to the story line and how the actors act (the script is super childish/teen).
Blackhat (2015)
BlackHat is a flop of a movie, but not for Tech reasons
In reply to "robk-952-110475"'s review:
I am a Software engineer who happens to work with Security and System software. I was excited to see a movie that was supposed to get it right. How disappointed I was.
The good: - tech sequences are realistic (commands without mistakes, mostly realistic attacks, etc.) - the actors were fine (far far from great)
The bad: (Pretty much everything that wasn't tech related) No reasons, what so ever, for most of the plot and storyline:
- They fall in love, no back story, no reasons, ridiculous and added NOTHING to the story
- The excess of action in every scene, the guy in prison for years that comes out and fights like he's been training all his life, even though we have 0 background on him beside that he wrote a good R.A.T while at MIT
- The excess of discussions and talks without any reasons ("You and my sister are falling in love, you will go back to prison, whats in it for her")
- everyone dying in a movie where they are supposed to be tracking a cyber criminal
- They let a hacker out of prison, let him bargain for being 100% released to help them all over the world. (As if there wasn't any security specialist not in prison that could of done a decent job)
- NSA director or high level official NSA opening a pdf right after receiving a call from an FBI operator that is in a mission with a hacker. (While I agree with the previous review that spearfishing with pdf documents is very common. Common the head of the NSA would know better...)
- pretty much every single character wasn't really introduced, 0 back stories. Every single parts of the story is not explained whatsoever. Which makes it very hard to like the movie.
TL;DR; the technical aspects of the movie were fine (especially considering all the BS we usually get from Hollywood), what made the movie terrible is basically everything else.. :( Sadly..
