Deadloch (2023– )

Spoiler: straight white man bad ...

This was brutal. No reason to be 8 episodes long. They tried to hit every cliche imaginable by making this small town full of quirky morons. Having a supposedly competent sergeant saddled with an obnoxiously loud, belligerent unprofessional detective is as cliche as it gets. But its not funny. Its forced. Having her mispronounce every characters name ? Cute the first episode. By the 8th ep is grating. Having her underling 'delegate' every task given to him was quirky the first time or 2. By the 10th time its lazy. And also giving the lead an overly annoying wife who is constantly injecting herself into and interfering with police business and protocol is absurd. No police sergeant would stand for this ever. Unless its 100% a comedy. This is barely 10% comedy. They really stretched this out way too long by basically having every single island resident considered a suspect at some point. Just ridiculous all around.

Reservation Dogs: Stay Gold Cheesy Boy (2022) Season 2, Episode 7

NOT just a filler episode

Usually during a series when an episode focuses on one character instead of the usual ensemble they tend to be weaker. That was not the case here. Giving Lane Factor an entire episode to show his talents as an actor and give his character room to shine among some stellar guest stars was brilliant. Having him unjustly arrested and put in a home with juvenile delinquents he stands out as a Man among boys. Played with confidence and poise, humor and heart Cheese finally breaks out. ( no pun intended). And Marc Maron was a nice surprise as the 'counselor' in charge. Love this show and really enjoying this season.

Newhart (1982–1990)

Bob is an icon ...

Such a wholesome show. Bob Newhart is a comedy legend and delivers lines like no one else. I used to love watching this show with my parents when it originally aired. I however was to young to really understand human behaviors and personalities. Watching again now as a middle aged man i Cant believe a character like Kirk would last more than a guest role. He is one of the worst side characters ive ever seen and im shocked it took 2 full seasons of his insufferable behavior to finally be written off. I know comedy relies on having an antagonist for your lead, and pairing up opposites usually strike gold ( Odd Couple, The In-Laws) but he is annoying, inconsiderate, rude, obnoxious but neither good looking nor charismatic (which usually softens the edges a bit). Looking forward to Peter Scolaris episodes beginning soon.

Terrifier 2 (2022)

Thornton is great. Movie not so much

First off David Howard Thornton is outstanding as Art the Clown. He has created an amazing icon of a horror villain. The practical effects are also some of the most amazingly accurate you will find in any horror movie. That being said, these movies should never be longer than 90 mins. This was ridiculously long and drawn out. As impressive as the kills were, they became cartoonish after a few seconds/ minutes. There is no real story also. Just an excuse to show off their special effects work really. And the Mom character.. horrible. Her acting and dialogue were comical. All she did was yell and curse and had no idea why her kids are messed up ? I love Art the character. He is as hilarious as he is vicious but these movies are weak.

Death Valley (2011)

Insanely funny show that was unfairly cancelled too soon. Great cast all around. Bryan Callans morning briefings are so full of awkwardness and inappropriately worded instructions you cant help but see Michael Scott in a police uniform. The script feels improvised like Reno 911 as does the filming style of intercut scenes of the partnered up cast handling bizarre calls day in day out. Great to see the ridiculously cute Caity Lotz in an early role as a rookie who is probably the best cop on the force. Would have loved a few more seasons with this group but sadly it wasnt to be. Luckily we have this on DVD to revisit often.

Starmaking performance for Aisha Dee

Well that was satisfying. Didn't expect this to be as good as it was. Aisha in the title role was outstanding. She gives an honest heartfelt even sad performance of a previously bullied influencer who is a bit off emotionally and needs constant validation thru her followers' comments. (Like most im sure). This movie heads in a direction i kinda saw coming but was still extremely impressed with the kills and how organic everything seemed. And nothing beats a satisfying ending when those who need comeuppance get it in spades. I hope to see more form this amazing actress as i feel she could handle every genre.

Absolute travesty to an iconic series

Lifetime movie of the week.

Green and Mcbride must have pictures of high powered executives with small children to have been allowed to do what they did to this series. I could include scene specific spoilers and my valid gripes with all of them but it wont stop peoples curiosity from seeing the movie. This travesty 'picls up' 4 years after Kills apparently. Where does MM shop for food ? Where does MM get his hair cut ? Where does MM get his nails clipped ? Does he own a calender or does he just wait to see Spirit stores pop up to know its time to come out of hibernation ? God help us all if Green takes on anyone elses work to remake.

Superhost (2021)

Gracie Gillam gives a star making performance

A movie about 2 desperate vloggers with lagging subscriber numbers meeting the insane host of a rental house done very well. Nothing you havent seem before but the film succeeds in making the vloggers annoying enough to root against and the villain awesome enough to cheer on. Im sure im not alone in hating the phrase "dont forget to hit like and subscribe" so any mishaps they face brought a smile to mine. But the true treat here is Gracie Gillam giving a super creepy, bubbly performance thats turns to sinister very naturally. Seems a far cry from her role in a disney movie years ago. Looking forward to more from her.

Horror in the High Desert (2021)

Its does what it was intended to do. Very well executed and believable documentary style found footage movie with a decent payoff. If you enjoy Lake Mungo or The Bay than this movie will not disappoint.

Delusional greedy producers passing the buck

Lang and Scher come off as 2 of the most despicable greedy clueless creeps around. In 99' they acted like everything was great amd they did nothing wrong and in 2021 they still push blame everywhere but back on themselves. Horrible greedy cost cutting morons endangered the lives of thousands of kids. They booked these anarchistic music acts and than said 'dont blame me' when they fired up the crowds to uncontrollable levels. These music acts also have a responsibility to ensure the people paying to see them aren't killing each other.

The Fury (1978)

Boring, poorly acted rare bomb from DePalma

I think Depalma is a fantastic filmmaker but this one was a miss. Irving and Stevens are too weak here to carry this subject matter. There performances during their 'episodes' were laughable. Kirk Douglas is always great and was the anchor of this film. Cassavetes is decent as the villain. The end scene that everyone raves about was mediocre at best. How many camera angles were needed ? 10? 12? Overkill is a generous term for it. Go watch Carrie or Dressed to Kill instead.

Old (2021)

We are asked to believe these people age decades in a single day yet no one grows a beard ? Their hair doesnt get longer ? The little kids bathing suits still fit even though they have presumably grown 2 or more feet ? The toddler somehow goes from a diaper swim suit to a teenager who gets pregnant in just a few hours and HER clothes still fit ? Also would the kids still have their original aged intelligence? No schooling but they are now conversing on an adult level etc. Extremely lazy writing and directing from the once, and i mean ONCE great M Night. Stop making movies, and if you insist on making another please dont cast yourself in any role.

Virus-32 (2022)

Colossal waste of time.

Nothing new here except the infected need a 32 second rest after killing someone. Is this considered a 'new twist' on the genre ? The lead sacrifices herself so her daughter can get away. She get absolutely stomped by an infected. He goes into his trance and the women, who can barely breath let alone move, lies there incapacitated while the daughter kills him with a stapler. At this point the mom pops up like she smelled morning coffee and they leave. W. T. F. Also Ive used staple guns plenty of times and im sure you cannot pierce a skull with a 1/4" staple. This is just one of many stupid scenes. Feel free to rewatch 28 weeks later instead. .

Why are all these characters being introduced ? This shows strength is in the charter members and their interactions. Way too many useless female characters being introduced and wasting time. All these fake dramatic side stories going nowhere. The writing has been atrocious so far.

Devery Jacobs is a revelation

This kid is a star in the making. Happy to see her getting more featured roles. Powerful episode that finally shines a light on her history and motivations . Always great to see Bill Burr who has also become a heck of an actor (though he mostly always plays himself). This is a fantastic series that even the episodes featuring only 2-3 characters can hold your interest completely.

When someone gets arrested for DUI they take away their license. For crimes against humanity someone please take away his camera. Why is this man allowed to keep making movies ? Its not possible to get to his age and have NO IDEA how people talk, walk, react, dance, flirt etc. Its seems his cast has no idea either. You think someone in the film would say "hey is this really how you want me to ..... " The blonde from the first movie is here again and im shocked to say, is even worse of an actress this time around. Not just acting, she cant dance either. Ive never seen a decent looking girl so hard to watch on a dance floor. 45 minutes in and im still waiting for some poorly drawn bird action. No one involved with these movies should be allowed to work outside of a TJMax. Just atrocious.

Im sure all the negative reviews are very similar. They all mention laughably bad acting, no story whatsoever and characters you could care less about. Terrible acting made worse by a ridiculous script. The lead, remaining male actor doesnt just butcher every line he says, its like hes never spoken to another human before. Most characters are only on screen for a second or 2 before being killed. Its basically just a series of murder vignettes that dont tie together any semblance of a story. And as always in a massive woods the killer is somehow always in 4 places at once. Also please explain to us viewers how a guy in a wheelchair ends up at the top of the mountain? And how he gets decapitated in daylight but his head rolls down the hill its nighttime. Kudos for the beautiful scenery that the director ruined by adding 'actors' to it.

Interesting premise that goes nowhere and has very unsatisfying ending. I get that a limited budget would prohibit actually showing anything of substance but to write a story and not have an ending is a cop out. Im all for letting the viewer use their imagination to some degree but we are forced to imagine 60% of the story. Its like self checkout at most stores these days, we are asked to do most of the work while the employee stares at us. But at least they offer to help if we are stuck. But here there is no one to turn to and ask WTF ?

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (1979–1981)

Great show for nostalgia fans

Who didnt have a crush on Erin Grey as a kid ? This was a light cheesy humorous sci fi show that had weekly female guest stars playing various scantily clad aliens or villains. Lots of familiar faces pop up throughout the series. Gil Gerard was a decent enough lead who smiles and smirks his way out of trouble several times an episode. This show would have you believe he is the hottest man in the galaxy the way all the females swoon over him. As for the action, it is pretty steady throughout the show with Buck and Wilma getting disarmed and kidnapped at least twice and episode. Also they dont even try to conceal the stunt doubles used in this show. Its pretty hilarious actually. All in all its a fun show.

This ones a sweaty winner

Ok so this last season is definitely hit or miss. But one common thread that is consistent throughout is the relationship between Mulder and Scully. They seem to be so much more relaxed with each other and it shows in their witty banter. A lot of great sarcastic lines and lighter moments between them. Not every episode injects more humor but the ones that do greatly benefit from it. This episode is a standout. Like last seasons Were-man episode with the amazing Rhys Darby, Brian Husky shines here. Very funny, very clever... especially the recut opening credit sequence as well as some scenes from some X files classics. Must see episode.

Insectula! (2015)

Why was the mustache necessary?

So you give your protagonist a laughably fake mustache and then decide to use closeups every chance you get ? Why did his character require a stache ? Also why is he like 70 years old ? I get some older men date younger attractive women but they are usually famous or rich etc. Not a government employee. As for the doctor who keeps forgetting he has an accent, thank you for the topless karate in the mirror scene. As a matter of fact this movie has more topless geriatric men then i ever care to see. Most of the wardrobe was purchased at party city. There are some pretty well done effects along with the standard leas than adequate CGI effects. The acting is as you'd expect from a cast of unknowns. All in all i watched it knowing it was gonna be like this and it held my interest so theres that. Plus you get to see the least erotic pillow fight between 2 hot girls for good measure.

Superdeep (2020)

Insanely good practical effects

Decent action thriller thats elevated a few stars with the effects work. Kind of reminded me of Splinter, then John Carpenters the Thing. Not the worst movies to be associated with. Watched it on Shudder and am glad i did.

Waaaay too long. This seriously could have been a 2 hour movie. King should stick to writing novels because as screenplays go, he has no clue how people, especially kids, speak. Its people talking about snow and a cut to the villain showing his fangs to remind everyone he is a demon and 4 hours of "give me what i want and I'll go away" and the last 10 mins we find out. I am rewatching it after many years because i forgot how weak it was. So now ive wasted 9 hours of my life.

Among Friends (2012)

Barely watchable. Lead actress ruins it

Casting is everything. You can have a decent script, effects, etc. But a weak actress and a first time director are a bad combination. I am a fan of AJ Bowen and Brianne Davis is a real beauty and a decent actress but other than that this is a real miss.

The Book of Boba Fett (2021–2022)

Boring AF

So far through 3 episodes i am completely bored. Robert Rodriguez direct is horrendous. His fight choreography in episode 1 was laughable. His speeder and bike chase in episode 3 was the slowest 'chase' ive ever seen. Not thrilling at all. All episodes seem like everything is in slow motion. A character with 7 minutes of screen time though 9 movies and they are trying so hard to build a backstory but im sorry, its terrible. Maybe its the show runner or the director but something is missing from this that The Mandolorian had. Maybe humor.
