No Hard Feelings (2023)
A Nice Quirky, But Somewhat Problematic Movie By Jennifer Lawrence
It's a funny movie. Jennifer Lawrence is great.
I definitely found myself laughing aloud. There's some heart warming moments and some cringe ones.
The kid is a little bit of an a$$hole though. He's so rich that he doesn't understand that there's real people with real people problems.
He definitely lacks emotional intelligence when he's hurt which I find to be problematic.
Anyway, the movie is about a young man child who was smothered by his overbearing parents, and a 32 year old Jennifer Lawrence grows him up in a cheeky and psuedo-romantic way.
There are parts of it that feel gross that I wish they left out, such as the forced final smex scene.
Barbie (2023)
Not a Barbie Fan, But this is a good movie!!!
This movie is so good. It is existential, funny, childish, and adult at the same time.
It is uncomfortable in the way that it perverts reality turning it on its head, and it forces the audience to confront the uncomfortable truths about reality that we have normalized.
This movie invokes a deep sense of sentimentalism, hope, and the beauty of ideas and dreams.
Also, can we talk about Margot Robbie???? Does this woman have Oscars, because she is so freaking amazing. When I heard that Margot Robbie was going to be Barbie I was leery. Could Harley Quinn really embody the larger than life legacy of Barbie???
Who would Barbie be? Really, a white Barbie with blonde hair as the main character? Isn't that so stereotypical?????
Well, let me tell you something. Margot Robbie should give a master class on acting. That woman needs to take a freaking bow and so does Greta Gerwing. I mean seriously...!!! Margot Robbie going from Wolf on Wallstreet, to Harley Quinn, to Babylon, now to Barbie.
How does the woman embody two opposing emotions at once with such precision and authenticity????
Well, enough fan girl-ing. This movie is awesome. It's a little on the nose with all the patriarchy stuff, but I think it needs to be. It's as though it marches right up to all the critiques it knows it will have and dares them to say something.
It reminds me of something a man on tik-tok said recently. Men are told that they are supposed to be respected by women, and respectful women often go unheard. Well, this movie is anything but respectful. It gives patriarchy the 🐦 and reminds us that we are all important not because of our gender but in spite of it.
Go out and watch it. Take your kids. You'll laugh, you'll wince, you'll feel excited, you'll dream, you'll empathize, and you'll believe.
The Christmas Shepherd (2014)
Ridiculous Premise
This movie is wild! (SPOILER ALERT)
I have two dogs (both shepherds). One is 7 years and the other 1.5 years. Both I've had since they were about 8 weeks. If either of my dogs ran away and got lost for two weeks and the person who found them refused to return either of them, I would be throwing blows!!! Like how dare someone do that??? If I lost my car in a parking lot and someone found it, would they feel entitled to keep it??? NOOO!!! If my kid went missing after school and someone found them, would it be their kid now? ABSOLUTLEY NOT!!!
Yet, that's the premise of this movie. A selfish father and his bratty daughter trying to guilt trip a widow into giving up her missing dog.
So much of the movie doesn't make sense. For example, when the dog was dropped off at the vet, he was wearing a custome collar. It was obvious that he had an owner, but the shelter immediately put him up for adoption. Like what vet/shelter does that???? They didn't even post Buddy's picture on their website.
They instead gave the dog to a rescue and the rescue owner gave the dog to her bother. The brother was supposed to foster the dog for a month, and he instead decided to keep him. Once again, who does that????
Of course they subsequently fall in love. The owner and the crazy dog thief.
I love romantic movies, but please don't make me hate the romantic interest as soon as the movie starts. I can get over a crass beauracrat as the love interest but not a dog napper.
Stupid plot line.
Nailed It! (2018)
Hope It's Renewed for a Season 2!!!!
This is the funniest show I've seen in a long time, and I've watched a lot of stand-ups on Netflix! This show has me dying and my chest hurting from all the laughter, and I hate baking shows! This is a great new twist on food themed shows. It's so engaging and has you at the edge of your seat yelling at the contestants as they do they simplest of things wrong. Watch the episodes in order, because each episode is funnier than the last, and host Nicole Byer makes the show! I thought she was funny on GirlCode, but she's hysterical here. She's not afraid to say what everyone at home is thinking, but she's seldom rude about it and very encouraging. I wouldn't say that this show helps its contestants become better bakers, but I can definitely say that it made me want to get into the kitchen and try to master these complex pastries.
I would love it if this show would post its recipes, and the only downfall of this show is how few episodes there are.
Keep doing what you're doing Ms. Byer! I haven't laughed so hard in almost a decade!
