The Lake (2022)
Can't even finish it
I'm not sure what the producers of this show were hoping for. This just comes across as another "shiny" and frankly quite plastic Canadian show. Very obviously trying to be the next Schitt's Creek (also shiny and kind of hollow, but the jokes actually hit.) I've seen better Hallmark movies (and that says a lot).
I was shocked to see Julia Stiles attached to this. The actors have no depth in their roles. The storyline, quite cringy and ick. The writing, just ick in general. The show itself lacks any humor or charisma. I didn't even laugh once.
The lead characters are predictable and never changed. I'm also interested to hear any feedback on the lack of production value that went into the daughters' parents side story. Am I supposed to believe they aren't stood in front of a green screen?
Julia Stiles must really need a paycheck because she is so much better than this. If I opt to continue to watching it'll be for background noise and to have a glimpse on if the main character ends up with the convenience store attendant... about the only interesting thing happening in the story.
Beyond Skinwalker Ranch (2023)
It's a stretch
This show is not the same as SOSW. I generally enjoy shows like this, particularly SOSW. Andy Bustamante is just plain irritating. Both hosts just seem to be trying way too hard to take the show seriously and have developed use of trying to coin sophomoric phrases like "high strangeness" which in itself is hard to take seriously. Not surprisingly, on this show, they immediately have success finding abnormalities, and also not surprisingly, using much more modern equipment than their sister show, SOSW. These exceptionally more modern experiments would be more exciting on the original show.
I like the concept of exploring other sites that experience UFO-like abnormalities, but this show falls too short. Perhaps a new set of hosts and a less rushed pace. When Travis makes appearances on the show, even he has a "ahhh, sigh" look on his face when dealing with these guys. Do yourselves a favor and stick to the original show.
The Summer I Turned Pretty (2022)
Awful on all accounts
After being recommended this show by a friend, and seeing a quite surprising rating of 7.7 on IMDb, I figured I'd give the show a shot.
From the very first scene it's just awful and appears to have been written and directed by grade schoolers. Also, who cast this? NONE of these actors can act... like, at all.
I would give 0/10, however after noticing this is a unionized production, 3/10 merely for the professional cinematography and set design.
Don't waste your time with this. Amazon - this show SUCKS.
