I Care a Lot (2020)
Is the care system corrupt?
In this film, the lead actor (Pike) and her cohorts, run a corrupt enterprise whereby she legally takes over the "care" of medically vunerable elderly people; but not any old vunerable people; those she has specifically scoped out as "cash cows".
Through court orders she gains control of their finances, strips their assets, ands reaps in the money on a regular basis, though their "care" in homes, where the owners are on her payrol.
But the good times come to and end when she picks on the wrong subject......
La dernière vague (2019)
How ironic!
Lung infections, face masks, quarantines....but made in 2019?
In the Tall Grass (2019)
Boring as hell....
This film is so dull, it even makes "Children of the Corn II" seem good.
Piercing (2018)
The premise was interesting......
I'd put this film in the "I'll try it out, based on the blurb" category.
Given my expectations, I'd say the film starts interestingly enough.
However, the lack of plot become apparent after half an hour, and the film descends into a poor "50 Shades" clone.
The ending is poor.
Can't recommend this film.
The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976)
Great title - but stupendously boring...
I was keen to watch this film because (on paper) this film appeared to "tick all the boxes" of what I'd be interested in watching, but hadn't already come across before (this is 2017).
When I refer to "ticking boxes" I mean things like the fact that the film is set in a 1970's in a gritty, urban, criminal, landscape; the sort of thing that should lead to a good film, based on others of the time.
However, I found the story line to be weak; the film lacks any real edge and ultimately, I found watching the film a dull and dissatisfying experience.
Some films gain "cult" status, but I see no "esoteric" qualities to this film that may raise it above it's apparent superficial, mediocrity.
Perhaps I am missing something but, there are honestly, very few films I have seen, that I have been less enthused by.
Tank 432 (2015)
Incoherent story line, frankly, boring.
Given writer, Nick Gillespie's pedigree (e.g. Kill List, Sightseers) I was hopeful of an entertaining story.
The film starts with a "jolt"; five minutes in I found myself reaching for the DVD box to read the synopsis, in order to try and "work out" what the opening point of the film was (the box confirmed - I can't think of a time I've ever had to do this before in all my years of watching films, though).
What followed for the rest of the film somewhat reminded me of being a participant of a paint-balling contest, without the "excitement" of actually being there.
This is certainly a step backwards from previous efforts, perhaps, due to budget constraints?
Without spoiling the ending, I'd just say that whilst Kill List left you pondering things, this one just doesn't seem to mean anything at all; to me anyway.
Hopefully the next film will be better.
