Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
What the actual ... was that?
I think I have not seen move this bad ever. I was going into this movie, knowing it will be a disaster, but wow, it really surpassed my expectations.
First of all, every scene has taken so long that if was not for my friend, who I watched it together with, I would just walk away from this. This 84 minutes movie would literally take about 15 minutes if each scene was not unnecessarily stretched for extra one or two minutes. Sometimes you are just looking at character walking or doing nothing for the whole time!
The jumpscares were so predictable but not only a few but all of them, from start to beginning, every scare was made the same way. The story was boring, without point, sometimes illogical. Characters were either stupid or slow.
Only good thing was happening outside the movie. Talking about how bad every part of the movie is and having laugh at it.
Boston Strangler (2023)
An investigation mystery drama
Movie based on true events of the serial killer in Boston in 60s. The main character is a young woman, a mother of 2 kids, who is working as a reporter at local newspaper. She becomes a primary journalist covering mysterious murders as we get to know more about the story.
It managed to put me back to 60s nicely, as the atmosphere felt like it. The scene were sometimes eery and suspenseful, but over all I would classify the movie as an investigation mystery drama.
The problem for me with the movie was a bit messy. It mentioned a ton on unnecessary names and sometimes I found myself lost in who is who.
Besides that I like the movie and recommend to check it out.
Missing (2023)
Good computer screen investigation
I like this concept. It is definitely something new since we have seen only a handful of movies made though PC screen. This one is an unofficial sequal to Searching (2018) since some creative minds where behind both titles.
Missing is about a teenage daughter desperately looking for here missing mother using only tech. It has a lot of twists. I mean, very lot of them, which can be at some point very irritating but overall it all adds up and it creates a 111 minutes movie.
The movie has one specific way to show what happened during some parts of the movie, which for me personally, looks like a cheating the limitation of having only PC screen to show what is going on, but on the other hand we see a use of different devices other than PC screen to portray the current situation which I liked.
The plot makes sense, the visualization was good and even though "IT wise" it might not all be 100% correct I still enjoyed this movie. Despite I like Searching more, I recommend watching this or giving this a chance even if you do not like this kind of concept.
There's Something Wrong with the Children (2023)
A very bad experience.
Just no. This two words sumarize it well enough. I do not recommend to watch it. The movie attracted me with the idea of something being wrong with the children. But it did not deliver.
If there is something wrong it does not end with kids only. The actors were not good, the characters turned out to be really bad too and the story has a good concept but it is handled poorly.
To be honest the best thing about this movie was when it finally ended. With the surprisingly good January we could have a good year for a movie, at least I hope so, and if that is a case, this will definitely belong to top 5. But from the other side of the list.
Creed III (2023)
Michael B. Jordan "OK" debut
A directiorial debut for Michael B. Jordan is an OK 116 minutes watch. We look at Apollo Creed (Michael B. Jordan} who is now retiredand enjoys its products with his family. We get to know something from his past and here comes Damian (Jonathan Majors) to make a mess, and Rocky is not present in this movie anymore.
The movie provides a nice cinematography and music. Some shots from fighting scenes look exceptionally great but on the other hand, I find some shots of the movie a bit draggy/unnecessarily long.
The biggest problem for me was the story, the fact I stuggled to care about the characters in this movie and at some points I did not know whether I should be hyped or depressed.
This movie has its flaws but I look forward to future Jordan's work.
A Man Called Otto (2022)
A good movie with Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks portraits the main character of the movie, Otto, who is this old abnoxious person and we do not really know why. Throughout the 126 minutes we can see him evolve with more characters interacting with him and also discover who he was, what has happened to him in the past and why is he like that now.
Overall, the movie is a rollercoaster of emotions, sometimes you laugh, sometimes you are in a suspense and sometimes you are just sad. I have not read the book or seen the movie A Man Called Ove from 2015, but i guess this adaptation has added some current topics/problems to its plot so it is not copy and paste with its ancestors.
At last, I did not have high hopes for this movie since it is January movie, but I was wrong. It was a pleasant watch and I recommend it.
Devadesátky (2022)
Must watch Czech crime series
If you are interested in crime and history, this 6 episodes long miniseries based on the real life events is for you. This series takes you back to the homocide department in Prague back in 90's in post-communist Czech Republic, where number of crime was at alarming level.
The crew managed to create a movie which looks good, takes you back in time, does not put you to sleep and let you peek behind the curtains to show you details, which will shock you, maybe even disturb you.
The cast works well together, especially trio of Martin Finger, Ondrej Sokol and Krystof Bartos, who portrait our leading characters as detectives.
Nobody (2021)
John Wick in disguise
Nobody will keep you entertained during those 92 minutes although it will, at some point, remind you of certain movie (guess which). Even though it's very similar at times, this movie sometimes uses situational humour to relieve the atmosphere and is quiet enjoyable action movie to watch in the evening with nothing better to do.
If there wasn't so much blood I would call it family friendly version of John Wick in which Ben Odenkirk did a good job as a main character.
Get Out (2017)
Just One Word To Describe It
Perfect.
"Get Out" is a phemonemal debut for Jordan Peele who surprised the whole movie industry with this movie. A combination of his directing and writing skills made a huge impact in this masterpiece. The main plus side besides amazing plot is the way how he managed to create a creepy atmosphere with the help of intensive terrifying music and nice cinematography. Another plus was the way he handled the question of racism very superbly as he shown that it's still a sensitive topic to this date. For example, showing that modern day slavery, the black market or illegal surgeries, and many more problem are still present in the world.
The cast for this movie was another huge aspect in a success of this film as there was a lot of chemistry between all of the actors and actresses. Daniel Kaluuya as Chris and Allison Williams as Rose fulfilled their job as the leading characters but astonishingly, the biggest surprise came from Lil Rel Howery as Walter who has relieved me from the tension with his hillariously funny scenes throughout the whole 1 hour and 44 minutes. Catherine Keener, Bradley Whitford and Caleb Landry Jones played the role of a Rose's (Allison Williams) creepy family very good as the discomfort escalates to the final act.
After all, I feel like everything just graduates though the whole movie from best to top-notch material. Watching it multiple times and each time finding the one of many Peele's easter eggs, I couldn't find or come up with any flaws. "Get Out" will play with your mind and make you wonder how, why and what is happening. At last, "Get Out" has became one of my favourites and i can't give it any other mark than 10 out of 10. Hope you will find my review helpful.
