The First Omen (2024)
Brilliant prequel
I love the omen trilogy and was looking forward to this for ages . So glad it was a prequel so we could see what the story was before the omen . In my opinion this film is a masterpiece . Eerie music, great shots, brilliant acting and some great scenes just like the original omen films . Highly anticipated and well worth the wait . Charles dance and bill nighy were great . And the actress who played Margaret was amazing . The pregnancy and birth scenes were really well done . I won't give anything away about the ending but am intrigued to see whether it carries on. I'll be rewatching omen this week.
Monkey Man (2024)
Dev Patel at his best
I love dev patel there isn't much he hasn't done that isn't top notch . And directing producing writing and staring in monkey man has proved again what a great all rounder he is . Loved the film. A film based on a son's revenge to the people who killed his mother and controlled the area they lived . There's some great dream scenes and Indian culture . And I loved some of the filming and close up filming . It's gritty, gory, violent and a great watch . Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be going a second time to watch ir . Highly recommend this to anyone who likes a bit of action violence and great acting.
All of Us Strangers (2023)
Love it love it love it
Wow Andrew Scott's performance is amazing . His acting is just perfect . I'd read a few bits about the film and was really intrigued and excited to watch it . The soundtrack is great very nostalgic and great to hear one of the best ballads the power of love by Frankie goes to Hollywood featuring heavily in the film (the last few minutes when it's played I was in tears ). This films covers grief loneliness and love . I'd happily go and watch it again . I really hope this is nominated for some awards because in my opinion one of the best films I've seen in years . Nice to see some decent dramas.
La sociedad de la nieve (2023)
Heart warming and gut wrenching
Wow. I loved the film alive . Watched it when it was released and numerous times since . And when I heard about this one was intrigued . Just watched it tonight and we loved it . The last thirty minutes especially shows much more than the original film and also in my opinion showed their friendship, how they survived and how it has affected them. How they survived is beyond me and shows true character, strength and determination. They never hid the meat eating and I've never read that much into jt . Again what someone will do to survive is astonishing and shocking . Somewhere I have the book and will be digging that out to reread. A great story.
Thanksgiving (2023)
Great watch. Gore gore and gore
My friend and I have waited for a spare day to go and watch this . And loved it . Eli Roth through and through. Great storyline. Some brilliant gore , jumpy scenes and some really funny moments .
So many new horrors let us down as predictable and not gory . But thanksgiving is a proper gore feast and a real treat to anyone like me who loves a slasher movie with some twists and turns thrown in. The Black Friday scene at the beginning of the film is great and sets the plot for the film. I hope there's a no 2 coming as I think they could easily do more thanksgiving films. Some great acting and familiar faces and an enjoyable watch.
Saltburn (2023)
Rollercoaster of a film
Such a banger if a film . Had watched the trailer but deliberately did not read any reviews . Barry keoghan is one of the main actors who I think is fantastic and such a top class new talent. Richard e. Grant as well was great. A real mixture of giggles, shocks twists and turns which I never saw coming. A few gasps and hands over the eyes moments . I don't want to give any spoilers as I think it ruins the experience of the film . Set in a beautiful mansion house with fantastic scenery and filming . I would watch this again just to see if I pick anything up I missed the first time . Top class film , acting and plot.
The Great Escaper (2023)
Wow what a lovely touching film
Having read a few reviews decided to give this a watch tonight . I love Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. Would imagine their last film . And what a great film . Had heard a little about the true story which I thought I'd known more about as it's based on a couple from Brighton and hove which is my home town .
The story is lovely, heart warming, at times funny and made me laugh, smile and shed a few tears . It was mostly filmed in Hastings which is a shame as it's based in hove . Made me want to go across to France for the d day celebrations and visit the memorials . Which hopefully I will do in the next few years . The audience was nixed of older people with their grandchildren which was great to see . Would defo recommend This to all ages . Fantastic story and some fine classic acting from two legends.
Sound of Freedom (2023)
Sad but a must watch
Have waited for so long to watch this and am so pleased it's being shown in the bigger cinemas rather than the small independence ones . Based on a true story about child trafficking and one man in particular who with the support of his family helped rescue children stolen and trafficked . A brother and a sister were taken and this film is based on them. It's sad, shocking, at times I was upset, other times disgusted but really feel this is a film that needs to be shown, talked about and countries need to be addressing their own problems with slavery and child trafficking . The message at the end from Jim who plays Tim is heartfelt and should be repeated over and over.
Gran Turismo (2023)
Surprisingly great
Had read no reviews or anything on this film. Went with partner and watched on the x screen which definitely added to the enjoyment of the film.
Great to see some English actors in it . Had no idea of the true story so interesting reading up on it afterwards . Last few minutes showing the real life people was great .
Have played gt many years ago but not a gamer and not into motor racing . But loved this film. The story is great . The special effects are fantastic and at times really impressive especially when it switches from him playing at home to in a motor car . Didn't seem like just over two hours king . Well worth a watch.
Wolf (2023)
Different, quirky and great
Wow. Loved it. Now I've watched all six episodes I want to rewatch them all. Some great acting, some great pairing of characters and some great all round characters.
Won't spoil it by saying the ending .. but total surprise which makes me want to watch them all again. I love something a little different , a little quirky, a little violent and this ticked all the boxes . Would defo recommend this to anyone. . A few familiar faces including the great Juliet Stevenson, Iwan rheon (the misfits ) and Owen teale. Some great acting, scenery, twists and turns and leaves you loving the show and wanting more.
Wham! (2023)
Nostalgic at its best
80s girl through and through. Was never a huge fan of wham . Talented duo with some great tracks but wasn't ever my go to music . But wow this was so nostalgic . Honest documentary showing their wonderful friendship and relationship. Found myself tapping my feet and singing along to their music . They were the best selling duo of the 80s and can see why. I went to Highgate late year to pay my respects to George at his graveside . Such a shame he left us so young . This documentary is one to watch. Will leave you happy, nostalgic, bopping away and loving the 80s and everything that came with it.
Heat (2023)
Watchable
Wasn't sure about this . First thing I've seen Danny dyer in anything since leaving eastenders . Maybe he will
Always be mick Carter in
My eyes . Set in Australia a drama about a friendship between two sets of families and their secrets and lies slowly coming out . Some good acting from the other male (don't know him name ) some lies and twists and turns . Beautiful house it was set in. With bush fires all around them the one male lies about asking for help and about a helicopter coming . Ending was good . Nice to see Danny dyer and I did laugh when he keeps swearing with his cockney accent . Was like having mick back but no Linda .
Worth a watch .
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Wow loved it
Could it be the end .. the clip at the very end gives me
Hope there'll be another one . I love guardians of the galaxy. Great characters, humour and soundtrack. Have loved all three but this one just slightly better . Rockets story is great and shows why friendship is so important to him. I did get upset twice during the film which my friend said to expect . Love will poulters character and hope if there's a no 4 he will be in it . Myself and my grandson were fixed to it . Never once checking how long is left or getting voted
It's a fabulous watch and I'm sure any fans of marvel will marvel at this one.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Rollercoaster of a ride
I hadn't read anything about this before watching it. My daughter fancied it so we went today.
Ray liotta last film which is sad . Loved this . Crazy story about bears getting High on cocaine and attacking people in the national park. Based on a true story but think the story's slightly different. There's some great scenes which really us laugh The ambulance scene in particular is great .
Light hearted humour. Some great gore scenes and blood shed. The very last scene at the end is great . If you fancy an east watch and a giggle this is the go to movie without a doubt : funny gory few jumps and a great watch.
Champions (2023)
Feel good movie
Just seen this today and I am pleasantly suprised . Love woody harrelson . Never disappoints me in any of his films .
Haven't seen the original but am intending to search for it . Harrleson plays a basketball coach whonafter drink driving is sacked and whose community service is training a team of special needs teenagers in basketball. The team are made up of allsorts of youngsters with different disabilities . The film shows different triumphs they overcome , different issues they have in their day to day life and how they come together as a team. Harrelson overcomes his own issues and bonds with them . It's a mixture of humour and I found myself laughing, feeling some sympathy , empathy and also some anger towards some of the issues the film portrays . Shows how there is still ignorance around . Some fantastic acting by the basketball team. I would imagine this film was a joy to film and it was a joy to watch . A real feel good movie .
Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody (2022)
Amazing
I'm wasn't a huge Whitney film but totally appreciate what a superstar she was and what an amazing voice she had . But after watching this film want to download and listen to more. Her story is so sad and such a shame . Her songs and voice are lovely. At times I wished she was still here to see how she's appreciated and loved. The acting is great and I'm glad they've used her singing as don't think anyone could match her voice . I'm also glad they didn't concentrate on the drug taking too much Her story is more than that. Would recommend this to anyone . Also watch the credits with the photos .
Big Boys Don't Cry (2020)
Harrowing watch but brilliantly done
Gritty drama based on a true story of child abuse in a childrens home in the 70s and 80s. Jacko as a damaged man shows how his childhood has affected him as an adult but how things can turn around.
Acting was superb. At times upsetting to watch and heart breaking scenes .
The filming was brilliant. Unfortunately more and more cases of historic child abuse are being reported .
Paul Connolly aka Jacko is a brave man telling his story and helping others as a result. Am so glad his outcome was different than many others and he had had the chance to lead a life worthy of him . He deserves a huge hug.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
A must watch
Hadn't read any reviews only seen one trailer before booking to see this . Engrossing , heart warming, sad, beautiful film. Loved the whole story. Will definitely be buying the book.
Room (2015)
Gem of a film
Have never considered watching this before but decided to give it a go today. Wow so impressive. Main actress's and jack the little boy are outstanding . The film made me laugh, sad, happy and thought provoking.
Film was filmed in the actual room with no false walls etc etc . Will
Now order the
Book to give that a read . Definitely check this out if you haven't seen it.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Slow but still enjoyed
Found it a bit slow . But once it got going loved it . Brilliant to see the original characters back and unite with the new characters . Not as many dinosaurs to start with . Defo improved as the film went on. Loved it x.
Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story (2022)
Shocking but true
Only two episodes but tells you everything you need to
Know about saville. How he was almost
Protected by others and allowed to carry
On with his abuse.. is shocking and wrong . His arrogance and character sickens me and I am shocked he got away with his crimes for so long.
The Nan Movie (2022)
Laugh out loud
Love Catherine Tate and love nan. Great to see her beck. Genuine connection between her and Matthew Horne.
Some real
Laugh
Out loud moments . Especially the last ten minutes which was hilarious. Loved it.
My Son (2021)
Great watch
Scenery was beautiful . Love James mcavoy such a great actor .
Loved the film . Great acting . Great storyline . Would have liked to know for sure whether her boyfriend was involved . Defo worth a watch.
Maid (2021)
Amazing watch . True to life
Loved it . Took me a few episodes to get into it .. and then hooked . Domestic violence, poverty, alcoholism, bad childhood, welfare, food stamps... everything gritty and dark . But glimmers of love and light . Andie macdowell is great. And her daughter in real name . Amazing. Shows the difference in our life of someone who has everything and someone who has nothing .
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
Ignore the reviews . Loved it
Really surprised reading some of the reviews . Took my grandson and we loved it . Silly slapstick comedy .. made me smile and laugh. Loved seeing all the old characters . I'd watch it again for sure.
