Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Great movie, with one problem
This is a great movie series. As an avid reader of the Spiderman comic book titles, I really appreciate the way the movie parallels the comic's mythology.
My only problem with the movie is the casting of Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson. I'm sure she's an excellent actress, and I'm not too disappointed in performances in the Spiderman series.
However, Mary Jane Watson first gained her fame (in the comic) as a model, and I believe the term "supermodel" was even used in a few issues. Kirsten Dunst is an attractive girl, but make no mistake, she's no model.
In short, Mary Jane Watson is a hottie, Kirsten Dunst isn't.
I know it's a small complaint against an excellent movie, but it had to be said.
Home Fries (1998)
A "Raising Arizona" Wannabe
I won't say "Home Fries" is a complete waste. I was somehow taken in enough to watch the entire movie. One shining light is Jake Busey, who steals most of the scenes he has, and the crazy thing is that he's stealing them from actors like Luke Wilson and Catherine O'Hara.
The writing, dialogue and costumes were another highlight of the movie. The portrayal of the Jackson family was right on the money.
It was the overall movie premise and plot lines that were average at best. After the first 30 minutes of the movie you could see the direction the film would take.
Overall, this movie didn't know which way it wanted to go. A comedy? A drama? A romantic comedy? One might think they were trying to make a movie along the lines of "Raising Arizona". If that was the case, they missed.
