Andor (2022)
The best SW addition since the OG
I really don't know what to write here.. just finished the show and it's writing in unpredictable and impeccable. It just proves how big things can be when you keep them small. Finally a piece of star wars that's not based on nostalgia, but character driven writing. The pacing was slow but I was sucked in the story since the first episode. A mature show. Season 2 can't come soon enough.
It's not a fair comparison, but it reminds me of House of the Dragon or Game of Thrones because of it's different factions and many "grey" characters. I'm expecting the writers to introduce more of these in the next seasons. What looked like a shallow spin-off to milk the franchise turned out to be the best addition to Star Wars since the original trilogy.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Am I the only one?
I don't know what everyone is moaning about, I'm having fun each episode. It's funny, witty and I'm really enjoying the dozens of side characters! It's not taking itself to seriously, has a nice pacing and never gets predictable.. The Jennifer/She-Hulk stuff is well balanced, the fourth wall break can be a bit much sometimes, but is it really annoying? I don't know, maybe I have a weird taste but am surely not disappointed lol. I would be fairly disappointed if they had played it safe, but I like the mcu shows trying out some different tastes and styles e en if it doesn't always work out too well. In my opinion, She-Hulk succeeds at what it's trying to do and is very entertaining to me.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Sam Raimi X MCU
I'm not gonna say much, just if you like the MCU and you like Raimi, you're in for a double whammy! It's as simple as that nuff said!
But of course this means the review is too short. So what I can add is that if you don't like the MCU or Raimi, this probably won't touch you and think this movie is just weird.
Moon Knight: Gods and Monsters (2022)
Marvel Studios still have a finale problem
But this was satisfying enough! Wish it was longer and contained more explanation, but the end credits scene makes a lot up for that. Overall this series is really enjoyable and really well though out. Better pacing than most other Marvel series and a smart exchange of character development and action. Satisfied!
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Now in my top 5 of favorite trilogies
I'm a sucker for trilogies that succeed and I think it's really hard to create a cohesive trilogy. The third movie might be the hardest to make since it has to be a good sequel to the second movie but also has to go back to the first movie to wrap things up. It's amazing enough that this trilogy does this very well, most third movies in trilogies don't really satisfy. But what is extraordinary about this movie is that it not only wrap the story up perfectly, it also adds extra depth and closure to the other (unfinished) Spider-Man series. It even expands the MCU without losing it's focus on what is important here: Spider-Man becoming Spider-Man. Peter Parker has now grown up. Can't wait to see the new trilogy where he struggles with all-day your adult life and needs to juggle his responsibilities. But wherever that will take it, this trilogy succeeded very well and it's here to stay. Props!
Hawkeye: Ronin (2021)
What the Black Widow movie should have done
This series gives us more of the relationship between Clint and Natasha, something that I wished to have seen more of in the BW movie. Yelena might turn out to be a nice addition, but we have to see where the finale takes it. I just hope it will be a satisfying one, since there's so much to wrap up and this episode just added more into the mix. So far, I really like the series and I'm happy we get to see the guy that Clint is. And yeah, I'm pretty stoked about that little big ending in this episode!
Daredevil (2015)
Even better after rewatch
The rumors of a new season made me rewatch. I can only hope Marvel Studios will preserve the groundedness of this great show! This has everything that I miss in the Marvel Disney+ shows. Next to that, great writing, good acting and a-maz-ing fight choreography. Great watch!
Loki: For All Time. Always. (2021)
A finale that DELIVERS
How do you keep a series constantly unpredictable and satisfying at the same time? Well they pulled it of. Loki is my favorite of the MCU series so far. The Kang theories were out there, but no one could have guessed it to be like this. Menacing, funny, threatening without violence.. I can't wait how this character evolves in the MCU. The finale leaves you with the unsettling feeling something really big and bad is about to happen and I just can hope that Dr Strange 2 and all that follows will keep up this level of Loki's excellent writing. Can't wait for season 2!
Loki (2021)
A journey into mystery.. and beyond!
Loki is a great series, with a great finale. Unpredictable yet satisfying all the time. Worth watching 100%. I can only imagine what impact this is going to have on the further MCU, but it must be big. I honestly can't wait until the next season and see more growth and interaction between the main characters, they can take it ANYWHERE from here, which is thrilling!
Loki: The Variant (2021)
Very intriguing
I'm very happy this show finds a way better pacing then it's predecessors. The mystery revolving around the rogue Loki is very well written inside the dialogues, but also in the action scenes! And that's probably the best about the series so far, it's the writing. The dynamic between Mobius and our favorite Loki is not only well performed, it's greatly written.
It would have been easy to fall into the old buddy cops trap, but instead this is a great two-sides-of-the-same-coin situation between the main players. As said in this episode, no one bad is completely bad and no one good is completely good. As Loki represents chaos and Mobius stands for order, this is a classic Yin Yang relationship. The little bit of curiosity for chaos inside Mobius, the "what if it's not all true" feelings he has and the small tension of Loki to find his new purpose inside the TVA quest are what connects these two. That's what makes them intrigue each other and that's what makes this episode very intriguing to the watcher.
Loki: Glorious Purpose (2021)
What can I say
Tom Hiddleston does it again.. great to see villainous Loki back in action. The music is great. Owen Wilson in an interesting role. The concept of the TVA is performed in a convincing way. A bit of mystery clouding the story already. I can say it tastes for more.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: One World, One People (2021)
Underwhelming Villainy ... But the Captain is here.
The Flag Smashers have been underwhelming the entire series. And now it's clear their motivation has not been more than a plot device. Which is fine, but the gaping hole left by Karli cannot be filled by Batroc or the Power Broker.
Though it feels that these Disney+ series are really meant to set up the post-blip universe, they do one thing very well and that's character development and storytelling. The far most interesting thing here was the struggles of the titular characters and the path they have been set on. And I guess, this can be said about John Walker too!.
And for the fan service: damn that suit looks fine and straight out of the comics! Can't wait to see Sam doing his thing in the next big crossover movie on the big screen.
So the new Cap is here, and in a convincing way. The storyline that touched me the most was Isiah Bradley's. Sam has the right mindset and mentality to step in Steve's shoes now. He just wants to set things right. Make the right decision. And to be honest, he found his way to do so. Can't wait to see what's next!
And Jahns, if you read this. Don't forget to give me a shout-out this time.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: Truth (2021)
Tying the strings together slowly.. and an after credits scene
At first I was a bit annoyed by the pacing of this series, but somehow it finally feels coherent since this episode. It feels grounded, like Civil War, without copying it's style and methods. I think this is one of the most character driven projects Marvel Studios has ever done, with an awesome trio dynamic of Walker, Bucky and Sam. Zemo was a fun temporary addition, but the real core of the story lies between these three. Zemo heading over to the raft means only one thing (I hope): Thunderbolts!
The Flag Smashers might be the villains, but they merely catalyse the coming conflict between the aspiring Captain America's. They represent the state the world is in post-blip and the one who's capable of handling that world sentiment in the best way might be worthy of the shield.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Improvement
Considering circumstances it's a miracle the final cut of this movie came out this good, it's pretty enjoyable. But the Justice League should have been a legendary movie and it's far from that. Wish DC or WB had made at least a roadmap before they started their EU.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: New World Order (2021)
Re-establishing the main characters
The first episode does a great job of diving into the main characters, showing where they are right now. In a way it refreshes your mind, so you remember what they're all about, but it also elaborates and expands upon their lives. Great mcu captain america movies vibe!
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Not for people stuck in the past
Seeing Patrick Stewart at work is a delight most of the time, but this particular role is and has always been my favorite. The wise Picard is human above all with all his flaws, one of the richest characters in TV history. I'm happy to see him continued in this fresh new way, a dark new future of the Trek universe. If your head is stuck in the past and you want everything to live up to your expectations, just stop trying to enjoy new cinematography. If you like good acting, storytelling and a a new way of exploring that Star Trek you've known for so long, you're going to have a great time. And if you're in for a bit of nostalgia, that's there too. It's crazy to see there's so many toxic fans that will never ever be entertained anymore. I'm grateful for the continuation of one of the best series to ever exist, and it's done in a great way.
