I Care a Lot (2020)
What do people want from movies? An interesting, different story irna rehash of the same tired stories?
I really don't get all bad user reviews of this movie. I loved it.
It's a completely different story; one that I've certainly never seen told before. It's well executed and the acting is superb.
All the characters are totally believable and you quite honestly don't know who your should be rooting for. It's a film full of completely unlikeable people.
The pace of the movie is also good. There's not a single section of the movie that feels out of place or unnecessary. It's also shot really well.
So what gives with all the bad reviews? I really don't understand what people expect from a movie. A super hero movie? A quest with a happy ending with everything all tied up in a bow? This movie certainly isn't any of those.
But if you'd like to see a different story that been well made and might open your eyes to some things then give this movie a go IMHO. I for one really enjoyed it.
Hank Zipzer's Christmas Catastrophe (2016)
So much to love here.
Yes it's a Christmas movie. Yes it's based on a British kid's TV show. No surprises here. However there's so much to love about the show and this movie.
Henry Winkler is so very great; worth watching just for him. Felicity Montagu does a sterling job as the main antagonist. The boy who plays Hank inhabits the role.
It's often kinda slap stick and heavy on the tropes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but its positive messages about family, being your best self and being kind to others that really wins it for me.
You could do far worse than spending the time to watch the show or this movie.
Significant Others (2022)
A must watch
I really loved this series. It really pulls are your heart strings. I cried at least once every episode. Anyone with half a heart should watch it.
All the cast did an absolutely brilliant job, with the two kids (3 actually) and Todd giving stand out performances. I've always found Todd to be funny, but in this role, which was far from comical, I really think it was made for him and he played it flawlessly.
The production values were really great too and it's obvious that everyone involved put their heat and soul into making what was a really great show dealing with emotional topics.
I highly recommend this series.
Savage River (2022)
What do people want?
I came to rate this show right after the final episode aired for the first time and was shocked to see only a 6.4 rating.
What do people want?
This show was well written and very well acted; stand out performances from Virginia Gay (who isn't even listed in "top cast" section despite her leading role) and Jaqueline McKenzie among many other fine performances makes this show is compelling viewing in my opinion.
I don't really understand how this has such a low rating. I really enjoyed it and I think if given a chance many other people will too. What does it take to get more than a pass mark?
Do people not want gripping, well made, well performed Australian made drama??
The Cry (2018)
Jenna Coleman is brilliant
Title says it all. Obviously she's the main character, but it's worth watching just for her solid performance. Overall very good as well.
50/50 (2011)
Comedy?
For me this movie raises two questions.
1. How does this movie get classed as a comedy? I cried more than I laughed. Just because there is a few laughs and Seth Rogen is in it doesn't make it a comedy.
2. How come it's scored so low? I thought it was a brilliant movie. Great story flawlessly executed by a brilliant cast. I can't recommend it more highly.
