Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
Star Trek can do anything.
When I was younger I assumed I didn't like musicals, I realized later that I just didn't like bad musicals. Ever since I've had an appreciation for the genre. Couple this with a life long love of Star Trek and this episode was destined to be my favorite Strange New Worlds episode. It's very well done and nails many of the musical tropes. Not only is it a fun clever episode, but it also fits well into the series as a whole. It's not a just musical for musical sake, which would be fine, but it works with the series lore perfectly. It's fun, smart, and absolutely brilliant. Do yourself a favor and don't sleep on Strange New Worlds, and if you do decide to sleep on this awesome series at least check out this episode, and maybe the Lower Decks episode earlier this season. Live long and prosper.
Akiba meido sensô (2022)
Easily the best of winter 2022
Just an absolute masterpiece of animation. This is just peak action comedy from start to finish with more heart than any slice of life anime I've seen in recent years. Going up against titles like spy x family and chainsaw man this was blew both of those titles out of the water in my opinion. It was both gorgeously animated and the voice acting is on point. We won't find another of its like for quite some time I'm afraid. The way it both does and doesn't take itself too seriously is really what makes it so charming. I wish we had more but sometimes greatness is only in a small package. MOE MOE KUN!
The Orville: A Tale of Two Topas (2022)
Beautiful
A truly touching tale of self identity and love. This is a story the series started in season one and is finally culminating here. I've read many people saying many things about this episode which shows just how subjective art can be with someone projecting their own issues onto said art. At its core this is a story about someone who's forced into a life they cannot live and fights for the right to be themselves. It's a story anyone can find truth in and it's truly beautiful.
Nobody (2021)
John wick redux
As a fan of Odenkirk since Mr Show I'm probably biased but I very much enjoyed this film. Awesome cast. It sells itself as a action packed adventure and doesn't fail to deliver. <~(obligatory review post)
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
The other reviews have already said it...
I began watching during season two and since the first watch of the first episode I was hooked. The whole premise is beyond perfect, but it goes many steps further with development of a world that you learn about as the characters do. A brilliantly written epic that I cannot wait to see conclude. Season 4 cannot come soon enough.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Desert (2006)
The Avatar State
This is such an amazing series. So well done. I have a lot of favorite moments and episodes but the one that can bring me to tears is when Ang loses it when he finds the one who stole Appa. It's not his most physically powerful display in the Avatar State but it's certainly the most emotional. So much so I felt the urge to express it here on my third watch through of the series.
This show is timeless and nearly perfect.
Heroes: Chapter Eight 'Villains' (2008)
Good flashback.
This is a good episode for exposition and flashbacks. The only question I have is I don't know if it's ridiculous or very typical that as a assistant DA Nathan is indicting Lindermin yet less than a year later he takes $4 million from the Lindermin group as campaign funding.
The Orville: Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes (2019)
She's only a woman to me
So well done. This series has so much heart and soul. I am admittedly a sci-fy fan but this can appeal to anyone I am certain. I was so impressed with the series from the start but episodes likes this are where the show really shine. If you haven't watched this show simply because you don't like family guy or other shows Seth McFarland has done you're doing yourself a disservice.
What We Do in the Shadows (2014)
Brilliant!
A work of art. So well made. Dry. Fun. Constant flow keeping it fresh. This movie has it all. Virgins. Sexy vampires. An IT specialist. A Chicken. Even spinal columns!
