Mother Monster (2013)
Absolutely Worth The Watch If You Like Deep Films
Understand that this film is indie and VERY low budget. The film quality is far from hi def and the audio isn't good. If you can get passed that then you will watch a powerful film with such a story that is unique and isn't the same overplayed story. The film is sad and a direct generational cause and effect.
They covered a lot in the 2 hr run time, but really they couldve easily made it 2.5 hours to add even more detail during each time event. This film isn't boring or dragging and it's not for the overly sensitive.
To be honest, I completely forgot about the quality once I was sucked in. That's how writing should be, unlike typical films that have poor writing with a boring plot so they have to compensate with excessive nudity and special effects.
Boy Meets Girl (1994)
Worth The Watch
This is a low budget-independent-gem from the 1990's. Filmed by less expensive cameras, the quality is no where near today's standards. If you can get past that, you are in for a treat. I almost turned it off after 5 minutes, but I am glad I did not because after the beginning scenes the picture becomes more clear for the rest of the film. If you pay attention, and listen closely from start to finish, you will understand the meaning behind this piece of art. Most torture porn films are far from artsy, so I was pleasantly surprised with this one. It was not as violent or graphic visually as I expected, but it was enough.
The Aviator (2004)
Absolutely Horrible Zero Stars
I really wish there was an option for zero stars because this garbage is that bad. It is so boring that at the end of the film you have to check your pulse to make sure you have not died of boredom. How the budget for this film was so high is beyond me since two hours of it takes place in a single room with barely any dialogue. The movie drags, drags, drags, and just when you think there is light at the end of the tunnel and that it is over it drags on long. It is almost three hours of absolutely painful torture. This is hands down the absolute worst film I have ever seen. The film is about Howard Hughs and his OCD, but even as someone with OCD myself I still could not appreciate any of this. (And his case was portrayed to be very extreme by the way.) There was absolutely no reason for this movie to drag on for three hours it could have been wrapped up in an hour and a half. It drags on since it is supposed to be a "masterpiece" but it is horrible. Hands down this is one of the absolute worst and torturous movies I have ever had to sit through. Terrible
Red Hook Summer (2012)
Pretty Good
I normally hate every crappy movie that Spike Lee comes into contact with so I thought this one would be horrendous with me zoning out as well, but it was good. This film is about poor inner city people's blind faith in God and that life will still hit you in ways you could not imagine being religious or not. It also shows that even if you hide behind religion you can still be shown for what you truly are on the inside. Like everyone else is saying, the final act really brings it all together. I will admit some of the actors are not the absolute best, but some shine on their own so it isn't a big deal. Spike Lee is a racist so he won't use diversity in his films he will only hire African American actors so he didn't have as large of pool to choose from. The little girl's mother isn't very talented, but the little girl and boy did a great job and so did the grandfather.
Upstream Color (2013)
Beautiful
This ended up being a beautiful film, but it is clear that in the second half the film got a little bit off course. I can definitely see how people could not understand it. It doesn't mean that they are not smart enough it means they weren't paying attention well enough to be able to think it through and piece it together, but that was a problem with this film. Piecing it together. This is the first film where I actually had to think very hard about what I was watching and then piece it together which I will admit is a bit frustrating. It is good for a film to leave you thinking, but not to where you have to really think and piece together to understand it.
One Week (2000)
Good
I did not expect much from this film, but it ended up impressing me. The actors and actresses did quite an amazing job and the plot never left me bored. Like I said, I did not expect much from it, but I found myself glued to the TV until the very end. It is a real movie about HIV hitting close to home, people dealing with the repercussions of their sexual choices all while hitting them at the complete wrong time in life when there is a marriage about to take place and people having to face the results even when they think it could never happen to them. This was a very low budget independent film, but did not feel like it at all. My only complaint is that I wish I had seen it sooner and it makes me sad that movies as good as this get left off of the radar for main stream Hollywood.
Jason Bourne (2016)
Better Than The Others
I really hate Matt Damon to begin with, but I was drug to see this by my boyfriend who does love the series. I will have to say this one was not as terrible as some of the others I saw. I see people complaining saying Matt Damon just was not interested in redoing these films, but the truth is that is just how Matt Damon acts. One of the reasons I don't care for him or his films. Julia Stiles would have made this a lot better, but sadly she's only in about 15 minutes of it. I don't know where people got that this was a thriller, but it is nothing more than your typical 2016 action movie. Not too much depth just action, but it isn't as horrible as people are letting on though I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it.
Spectre (2015)
Stop Beating A Dead Horse
Geez let this series rest in peace already. I already knew it would not be very good, but my boyfriend made me watch this. They should really just stop trying to remake this over and over when it's this bad. From beginning to end everything from the story to the end is terrible. The opening scene/song thing, if that's what you want to call it, was completely random and out of place. I was so embarrassed for Daniel Craig that I had to look away. It then just went downhill from there for another painful 2 hours and 38 minutes. I actually went and sat in the bathroom for awhile desperate for this movie to end. Then when it got to the end he was all acting like he was in love with the chic he had just met the same day? Did they even make an attempt to write a story? Roger did fine and Pierce did fine so just let it go. Stop trying to remake these films. Let it go please spare us.
Killjoy Goes to Hell (2012)
Garbage
I see a lot of people saying this was better than the others. This is the only one I have seen and it is terrible so I can only imagine how much worse it can get. This movie is the stupidest garbage I believe I have ever watched. I am normally quite generous when it comes to rating films and it takes a lot for me to straight up hate something, but this was terrible. I don't know who allowed this in production, but they should be fired. It is so stupid you can't even begin to take it seriously. It looks like a 2 year old picked out all of the costumes and did the make up for the characters. Yes, that ridiculous. And the acting is beyond poor. I wouldn't have made it through, but sadly I couldn't find the remote.
The Scar of Shame (1929)
Pretty Good For It's Time
OK first of all let's face it. Some films during the silent era can be boring and painful to actually get into, but are more worth the watch for the visuals of what things were like back then. I personally like watching them because there aren't a crazy amount of them left and it is fun to fantasize what it would have been like back then. I always feel like there are not enough words to justify having words at all during the films. This film is a silent black film with a great story. It doesn't put you to sleep and it has some powerful silent acting along with a powerful story about class. (This movie is called a race film bc it was a film made for black people starring black people. It does not mean that this movie is about racial issues with other races, but about a couple who marries each other outside of their classes and how the female lead has a very difficult time adjusting to a higher class life.) It is definitely worth the watch. It is very sad how many very early films such as this did not make it through the years. Watch them and appreciate them.
The Secret Life of Pets (2016)
Not That Great
On the previews they made this movie look so good for a family movie, but it is not. It kind of just drug on and there were parts that honestly just kind of bored me. You honestly just never fall in love with the characters and just begin to not even care if the characters work through their problems or not. All you can do is keep checking your watch hoping that it will end any minute. Most certainly not worth the $50 it took for our family to go see it. If you are expecting something with strong characters like those from Zootopia, then you will be strongly disappointed as this was painful to sit through. I thought for sure I would love this movie. Not
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
Don't Expect The Original
They really should have waited for Will Smith to jump on board this movie. Everyone in the original were likable and all contributed to the movie. I cannot say the same for this one. The new characters are nothing more than an annoyance on screen. Especially Bill Pullman's daughter. It got to the point where you would wish she just would not speak another line or get taken out by something to get rid of her. Cares about her dad got it. She can stop being a brat now. The other new boys are also annoying. The new characters are forced and feel just completely out of place. They claim in this one will smith's character died during a test. Really? He fought aliens, but could not make it through a test? Then you have Vivica Fox who was a stripper and now is magically a doctor. Not completely unheard of, but still a massive step in life. I was really excited about it and wished so much that it would have been better. Sadly, it wasn't.
Ouija (2014)
Kids Movie?
This film has only children because it is for children. I did not typically think horror movies were marketed towards very young teens and preteens, but this one clearly was.
The acting was bad. Even worse than what I have seen in any B movie. I feel like the plot could have been so much better than it was. If you are an adult, not a teenager, then I am willing to bet you will not find this movie even remotely scary. Aside from knock knock, this is one of the worst I have seen in awhile and would never watch it again. Watch the Ouija Experiment instead it is so much better than this. I think the person comparing this to a Disney movie was correct in that regard. If it wasn't for the language here and there I think it would have only been able to make it to a PG rating.
The Ouija Experiment (2011)
Pretty Good
I normally hate films where someone has any type of camera and carries it around making the screen bounce giving you a headache, but I really liked this movie. The story line is actually very good it's almost two stories in one if you think about it because you have the current story and the past story rolled into one cause and effect. I think what really would have made this movie better though is if you did not have any of those scenes where someone is "recording" with their own camera. I am glad I made it past those scenes though because the movie turned out to be quite enjoyable. It makes you really think twice about ever playing with those boards again. This movie teaches a lesson on why you should always close your session.
Sinister 2 (2015)
Pretty Good
Honestly, I thought that this one was better than the first. (I know not everyone agrees on here.) I thought the tapes were better and the children had a good creepy feel to them. My biggest complaint was how in the world did they get tied in the cornfield? I shouldn't have to ask it should have showed us. What I liked so much about this movie is instead of your typical jump scares this movie was provoking a different type of fear from the inside out. Meaning if you are focused and are really think about and realizing what is going on with the tapes it is creepy. It also has a completely creepy undertone throughout that you also never see with many horror movies. Instead of just having some creepy moments the entire movie has creepiness running throughout the background.
Knock Knock (2015)
Words Cannot Describe How Bad This Film Is
I usually can love anything with Keanu Reeves in it because he makes everything so much better. Unfortunately, this movie is probably one of the worst I have ever seen. I can usually appreciate watching every movie at least once even if I wouldn't watch it twice, but this one is painful to watch. Keanu was completely wrong for this role. The movie doesn't really even seem to have a point except to those that wrote it because you are left asking yourself what the motive even was for the characters doing what all they did. It is almost like watching sports to people that don't understand them. You see the characters doing things, but you can't quite ever figure out why and what the point of it all is. Reading the description I thought it would be awesome. Wrong. You can't even watch it for the steamy scenes because the chicks in the film are unattractive. I know it's hard to believe the reviews on here because a lot of times they are overly critical, but believe it on this one.
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Much Better Than The First But Still Not In Love
Everyone was going on about this one being better than the first so tonight I went. The first one wasn't even the least bit scary to me. This one does have quite a few more scares, but they are all jump scares. My biggest dislike was the movie ended quite abruptly when it shouldn't have because it drug on for two hours and then when the actual climax occurs it lasts a good 10 seconds and boom the end. Since that was the entire point of the movie it made no sense whatsoever for the scene to only last 10 seconds. So I'll totally give it credit for jump scares and for the cast including awesome Franka Potente (she's in awesome German films), but it is one of those films that could have been so much better.
