Birds in the Bush (1972)
I liked it.
It was trashy but I've seen a lot worse on Australian and British television. Have you seen Time gentlemen please? On it's first run in Australia it pushed out the lovely US sitcom Nancy with Renee Jarrett. I was cranky as hec in the beginning but BiTB grew on me. Well I was only fourteen. Have you seen Bluestone boys with Carla Hoogeveen? This was better. Thank you for your time.
Frasier: Halloween (1997)
Drivelly nonsense
Some times the writing in Frasier can really hit the high notes. This wasn't one of those times. A very weak premise based on a ridiculous misunderstanding with every last lame joke wrung out of it. The only episode I can think of which is worse is the one in the final series where Fraser has everyone convinced he is dying. The gullibility of his family and friends is offensive to me as a human being. The best American comedies use great writing, not characters. This is an epic fail.
The Good Place (2016)
Where can I find more television like this?
If you never saw Pushing daisies now is the time to go back and watch a lost gem. The good place reminds me of its heart and whimsy and its appeal to the best in our nature. Not only that I see parallels even in the way the two shows use color that its a feast for your eyes as well as your ears. Kristen Bell is perfect in the Good place and Ted Danson is a delightful surprise. When there is so much choice with so little on offer that can be watched by anyone its a breath of fresh air to find a show like The good place. The narrative is strong the performances are top flight the sets are literally amazing. You might have forgotten tv is capable of greatness you might not have believed its possible. You would be wrong. This is why television was invented.
