The Resort (2022)
Not a comedy, not even a dark one.
This is a weird, moody, strange tale. The characters are unlikable and make very stupid decisions. I don't know why I watched the whole thing. I guess I kept hoping it would get better, it didn't. The storyline about the miserable couple was just sad. There is just too much pain and anger for this to be entertaining. I have no idea why the description mentions true crime. This is obviously all fiction, unless someone took a true crime story and spun a wildly unbelievable tale out of it. It's too bad this stunk, it had a good cast. I wouldn't recommend this. Why do these reviews have to be 600 words? Anyway, skip this.
Cha Cha Real Smooth (2022)
Not a comedy
I don't know why this came up under "Comedies" on Apple TV. It is definitely not a comedy. It's a heartfelt drama, but not funny at all. It was more dark/moody/slow than I wanted it to be.
The Responder (2022)
Thumbs down
Martin Freeman was very good as this character but that was the only good part about the show. It was missing something, consequences. The ending felt very unresolved. It really wasn't what I expected it to be.
Little Italy (2018)
Bad casting
Who the heck cast Emma Roberts as the lead in an all Italian family? It just doesn't work. Hayden Christensen barely passes. You can't make someone Italian by dying their hair. The bad casting distracted from an OK movie. Definitely not a feature film, just something to stream out of boredom.
What We Do in the Shadows (2019)
Laugh out loud funny!
This show has been the best thing to happen to us in quarantine. The writing is fantastic and the cast is hilarious. I'm not a gore/horror fan and not into vampires but it doesn't matter, this is ridiculously funny. We've watched Matt Berry's other shows and this is his best work yet. I've not seen Kayvan Novak's other work, but Nandor is my favorite. I hope they keep this going. It's so good!
Downhill (2020)
It's just BAD
Why would you take two of the funniest comedic personalities and make a sad, depressing movie? They listed this as a comedy/drama. They need to drop the comedy. Even the drama was bad. Such a letdown.
The Onion Movie (2008)
Too far, even for the Onion
Garbage. Beyond the Onion type satire, they took it too far. Race, rape, terrorism..no holds barred. I wish I could unsee it.
Fleabag (2016)
Season 1 was good, Season 2 is fantastic.
I wasn't sure about this one until I was a few episodes into season 1. I'm glad I kept watching. This is not a straight up comedy. Fleabag makes you laugh, but you also feel the emotional turmoil of the characters. Phoebe Waller-Bridge makes Fleabag so real, she takes you on an emotional roller-coaster as she makes her way through her F'd up life. She's so very imperfect and relatable. Season 1 was good, but season 2 was far better. Andrew Scott's performance made the season. He was brilliant. The priest story line was fantastic. It's the best portrayal of a Catholic priest I've ever seen. There was so much chemistry between these characters. The sister story line is very well written. It's all so raw. You'll either love this show or hate it. Give it a chance.
David and Olivia? (2018)
Boring
This was simply boring. It felt disjointed and the acting was BAD. I have no idea how it got so many good reviews.
Restless (2012)
Continuity flaws
This seems like a great story, but just as I was getting into it, I realized that Eva, (the younger Sally,) has brown eyes and Sally has pale blue eyes. I know that this is a spy movie, but I doubt that they technology existed in the 40's to change human eye color. This is a huge, glaring, casting error. If you value continuity, this will be bothersome while watching. It will distract you from the story line and leave you looking for more incongruous errors.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)
Nope
If only there was a way that I could un-see this movie! I kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. This was just weird, disjointed, and bland.
Instant Hotel (2017)
Has potential
This was a new spin on homeowner/design reality shows. It would be cool to see them do this in different countries. I'd love to see them do it here in the states. I've stayed in my fair share of vaca rentals and they are definitely not all held to the same standard. I think the scoring system needs tweaking but I hope there are more seasons.
Camping (2018)
lousy
Boring, depressing, and pathetic, this is a total miss for HBO. These characters are not entertaining and the story is just blah.
