Great (sort of psychological) Thriller
28 May 2023
Well done thriller for the age of social media. I don't have any social media accounts for lots of reasons, so I'm glad they didn't overuse and over-exploit it. It was just enough to get the point across.

I will say that the use of foreshadowing, particularly in the 30 minutes before the opening credits, did make the film a little predictable- but not so much that it ruins the production.

Good cinematography and production value.

The characters were believable in that they acted in ways one would expect under the circumstances. The cast did an excellent job which brings me to my FAVORITE aspect of the film - Cassandra Naud. She absolutely steals the show! I have never seen her in anything before this and now I have a huge crush on her lol. That doesn't change the fact that she did an outstanding job in her role.

I think the film is underrated on this site. Giving it a 9 may be a stretch to some, but not to me. I hope Cassandra Naud continues to get roles :)

The Movie is Excellent. The show is meh.
20 August 2022
The Australian star-studded original film is so good. Ben Mendelsohn alone is mesmerizing.

The American version doesn't have the gritty feel of the Film, nor does it have actors with the chops that the original cast had.

I'm an American, but this just seems like another capitalistic money grab by us that attempts to reinterpret an original piece of art for an American audience. Well, like many times before, they have skewered the original version in the process. It's already in English. Scott Speedman? Come on, really? Was Scott Caan busy? Both are awful xD just watch the movie.

More Nic Cage Please
19 June 2022
One could say that Nic Cage is back, but the guy never left. He's been in some smaller budget films that are hit or miss- but even the ones that were a miss were undoubtedly made more watchable with his presence.

It's not easy to pull off a film that delivers it "all." Although it's not perfect, this movie did an excellent job of holding me in suspense, giving me action scenes to marvel in, and a trip ;), all while making me cry out in laughter. The way they turn Nic Cage into just a normal person makes some of the scenes utterly priceless.

This guy is, was, and always will be a brilliant actor. Stop treating him like the casting agent in the film does. I'd much rather watch him than 95% of the hacktors Hollywood has been giving us. 😎

The Best of Comedy Central
16 May 2022
1. Workaholics 2. Chappelle's Show 3. Anthony Jeselnik/ Daniel Tosh material.

Some folks may find this to be blasphemous, but as a straight up comedy TV show, Workaholics is the best that Comedy Central ever made.

Chappelle couldn't and still can't get past race and racial topics. His material has turned into preaching, but that doesn't stop his self-righteous bull from tearing down other groups of people - most recently homosexuality.

The other 2 speak for themselves. :)

Check out Workaholics if you haven't. They really find their stride in the 3rd season.

Seen this so many times. Excellent.

I miss Shia. This is my favorite film of his. It's a little "Hollywood" feeling, but not necessarily in a bad way. Shia acts his heart out again in this. 2 thumbs up.

Good action, weak story, Gyllenhaal crushes it
25 April 2022
Michael Bay does make some entertaining films, and this one was for me, too. It's not great - the story is pretty run of the mill.

The one thing this film did do for me was reinforce Jake Gyllenhaal's excellence as an actor. Worth it just to see him.

This is a Satire, so of course the acting is OTT
14 April 2022
I have not seen any other Agatha Christie satires, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Sure, it's low budget. But, for what it is, these characters had me laughing hysterically! This film doesn't take itself too seriously and neither should you! Loved it, gonna find some more!

Season 1 and 2 are Excellent 10/10
24 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I wish they would have cast season 3 and 4 a little better. Mary Elizabeth Winstead? Come on, I know she married Ewan McGregor but trust this born, raised, and still live Minnesotan that between the 2 Englishmen, Martin Freeman played a Minnesotan far better than McGregor.

For season 4, I didn't buy Chris Rock's loud ass as an organized crime boss. Way overracted. That being said, I enjoyed the s4 storyline more than season 3.

Season 1 and 2 are flawless in my opinion. There is a familial connection between those first 2 season where you see some of the same characters in both seasons but at different ages. There are references to season 2 in season 1 and vice versa.

Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine are Hilarious
8 November 2021
I'm not even a fan of Romantic Comedies, but Wilson and Devine are my 2 current favorite comedic actors. These 2 are golden and nothing would make me happier than seeing them in more films and shows!

Criminally Underrated on this Site
3 September 2021
IMDB is a very popular website so you get idiots on here complaining about epilepsy and flashing lights and how there's no epilepsy warning at the beginning - and then give it a crappy rating because of it? The world doesn't cater to you.

This is another excellent film by Ben Wheatley. It feels reminiscent of Annihilation, The Apostle, maybe some Wickerman or even Midsommar.

Don't want to give anything else away - if you like the above mentioned films or Ben Wheatley's past work, give this a shot. It deserves a much better rating than IMDB reviewers have given it. It may be due to that it was premiered on Hulu. It's not for sensitive kids and their moms xD.

If You Liked The First One, Check This Out
19 August 2021
Not quite as good as the first - there is no substitute for Vincent Cassell, which is part of the reason this isn't quite as good. Also, the story isn't as unique - that being said, I very much enjoyed this Dark Thriller.

Good fight scene like Vince's in the first. Good chase scenes. If you like films like Se7en (a popular one), I'd suggest you give these films a shot.

Too Drawn Out
3 May 2021
This feels like a movie drawn out into tv series. Sooo much filler. I understand the concept of a slow-burn building suspense, but it just keeps leading to nowhere. Not sure I even want to try the second season :/

Not Slow or Boring. Great Western.

A24 has great films, and no I don't work anywhere near the film industry. Fassbender and Mendelsohn do not disappoint.

Beautifully shot, directed, and edited.

The film moves right along to fill in it's 1h24m runtime with a rich story and evolving characters. Worth anyone's time imo.

The Empty Man (2020)
6/10
First 20 minutes or so are great.
26 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first part of the film is excellent. Looks to have been shot in East Asia. I wish it would have continued to feel that way.

As the first part of the film played through, I thought, "hey this is good, kind of reminds me of The Descent." Then it quickly turns into a Bloody Mary/Candyman suburban investigation film? Lol, it's not terrible, but it could have been much better had they not bait and switched the formula.

That said, I do understand the idea of making it feel more like it's "at home" or able to permeate our lives with the detective part. But again, it would have been a much better film if shot in caves and interesting desolate mountainous land. The descent into madness could have continued that way as we discover more about what the Empty Man is, or where it came from - rich lore and better shooting locations - again, like the first part of the film xD

Believable acting. Tight directing and camera work to bring out some nice cinematography. Music and audio fx are professional and on point. You don't have to check this out, but if you like horror and thriller films that keep a quick pace- I would. 10/10 for me- forget the critics

Starts out okay...
1 December 2020
Then turns into a convoluted mess. Wished all the tweakers would have just died in the first 15 minutes... boom you have a short film. But nah, they dragged this crap through trope after trope. If I wanted to watch this much white trash I'd go find a trailer park, videotape it, and I guarantee it would be more interesting than this.

Jim Cummings is an Ace.
11 November 2020
This film and his recent release before this, Thunder Road, are both incredible films imo. Cummings wrote, directed, and starred in both films. Now, his characters in both films have many parralels- struggling single father policeman with a daughter. However his capacity to show emotion is unrivaled by hardly any male actor out there today- again, my opinion. This intensity combined with his realistic refelction of a confused male dealing with things like ego, loss, connection, etc. ring so true that it felt like I was legitimately watching this guy go through this in his actual life.

I have seen both films more than once now and eagerly wait his third title. I really hope the industry keeps this guy going with releases this size or bigger. These are the type of films we need more of.

Quite Good
31 October 2020
I tried to watch this when it initially came out and was turned off by the opening credits- mostly the bubble gum pop song xD But after seeing some decent reviews pile up, I decided to give it my time for Halloween 2020.

Commendable acting from no-namers. Cinematography, Directing, Editing - all pretty good but nothing new or defining. Kinda vanilla.

The makeup and effects are done well- which is important for a film like this. (òÓ,)_\,,/

I still think the music was a little overdone- but it doesn't soil the final product. 6/10

It's... ok.
26 October 2020
For a low budget film where nothing really happens, it could have been much worse. However, the I found the 2 main actors and their characters quite annoying more than anything- not funny- nor scary or compelling by any means.

Again, just my opinion, but I am very thankful Chris Redd dropped into steal the show for a short time. Made it well worth sitting through the rest xD
