The Innkeepers (2011)
Nothing to see here, Move along
This film is unusual in its simplicity alone. Most movies of the haunted house genre take the stock premise (Look a house, people have died there, spirits now hang out there) and customize it to make it new and unique. With The Innkeepers there is no spin; That's it, and it takes a really long time to get there! Even the ghosts seem tame, a jilted bride suicide hardly seems the thing of nightmares these days.
Most of the acting was wooden, but the lead female was rather well played and likable helping to at least make her fear our own a little. The script was both unbearably slow and puzzling/rushed at the same time. Characters often do random things against their nature just to further what little there is of a plot. The camera work was simple and of questionable quality but passable and the editing really did try to make you forget what you were watching was another go nowhere, unsatisfying, not quite ready for prime time indie flick.

You'll probably like it... If you're related to the people that made it
This one is just bad, folks. Student film grade badness, not even the so bad its funny kind. None of the stories are original, or really even that spooky. The acting is wooden and amateur, but it's not like they had the greatest writing and character development to work with. Some of the segments are period pieces, complete with "costumes" and "accents" and if you've understood anything I've said you can just guess how "enjoyable" they are. If you once changed the diaper of anyone involved in the movie, you'll probably think its the gosh darned best movie you've ever seen. If you don't happen to fit in that narrow target market ... run! This really is a film only a mother could love.
