AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem (2007)
There isn't a letter in the alphabet which rates this rubbish
The gratuitous flesh for the teenage boys - I just though 'Jason' - she'll get killed for loose morals. No surprise there, then.
The gratuitous killings of children, including a completely unnecessary scene in the hospital nursery to spell it out.
The gratuitous killings and mockery of birth of the pregnant women. (Ripley's comments in Resurrection) The mother and daughter pairing. (Ripley and Newt) We aren't ripping off Ripley are we? I didn't expect much more than Jason v Freddy but I did hope for that much, only to be severely disappointed.
It wasn't laughable, just nasty.
The script is poor. The CGI is useless. It's not exciting. Like many previous commentators, I couldn't feel for any character.
I love the Alien series and I think Predator was an extremely well-made film of it's kind. Both required some degree of intelligence. Sadly this cannot be said for this extremely illegitimate offspring.
To be frank for gore I'd rather watch Cube or the Saw franchise, which at least has a sense of humour. I won't be buying this. I'll stick to the Quadrilogy thanks.
Theirs Is the Glory (1946)
The True Story of Arnhem
Please do not compare this film with the fictionalised Hollywood account in 'A Bridge Too Far'. My father was one of the survivors of Arnhem and my second cousin was killed there. My father told me how accurate this account was. A Bridge Too Far just made him angry.
This was one of the most harrowing battles of World War Two. The First Airborne were split and the two parts could not reach each other yet were near enough to hear their comrades being shot. It had a devastating effect on my father for the rest of his life. The Division was decimated trying to do the impossible.
(For me, born after the war it is horrifying to see what my family went through and frightening to realise by what a slim chance my father survived and I existed.) This is a real testament to those soldiers and I hope will ensure that they are never forgotten.
