Suicide Squad (2016)
Not Deadpool
I tried hard to think of a good example but I couldn't, the simple premise is that Will Smith doesn't play well with others stands true.
And that fact ruined what could've been such a brilliant anti-superhero film. The plot while complex and very convoluted could have been a lot easier to grasp if the Suicide Squad was just that. Instead there was a bunch of misfits whose only purpose was to listen to Deadshot and do what he says. Margot Robbie and Jared Leto were just born to play natural born killers with love for only each other. While Harley provided most of the sick, twisted humour that a film like this should thrive on. The rest of the characters seemed held back and harmless, fun but that's all they were padding.
Not the worst or the best!!!
Tank 432 (2015)
I only watched it because I thought Wheatley directed
The acting was fair, Gordon Kennedy keeps popping up, but having seen the ending coming a mile off after 10 minutes I only watched to the end for the slim chance of being proved wrong. I was not. The film started off mysteriously, asking the viewer to draw their own plot lines with weak special effects and oddball performances. Too much too soon. Perhaps it was my own fault for watching 'Darkest Day' about a month previous and expecting something different, nothing was - except the acting which was immensely improved but pi**ed away by the tired old plot. Shot with competence but no real flair for suspense, character building or even editing the film promised far more than it had to give.
I tried
The Trust (2016)
Nic Cage is back
Really good intelligent film,a few plot holes but a remarkable watch. Not just for Nic Cage's performance ( back to what he does best, dark psychotic and very funny ) but also a role for Elijah Wood that fits his startled naive, deer expression. Not to mention a great cameo performance from Jerry Lewis, who must be at least 128 yrs old by now and Ethan Suplee who is always good value with great comic timing. The tension is always lurking every time Mr. Cage is involved so don't relax too much because essentially it is a heist movie with guns and the criminal underworld.
Don't take it too seriously and enjoy it, I know I did.
