Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Arguably one of the greatest movies of all time
End Game was the perfect conclusion to over a decade of storytelling. The MCU has set the bar far out of any other franchise's reach. No one will ever be able to replicate what they have done. When I saw this movie on opening night the theater was sold out for every showing. The theater had screening every 30 minutes plus separate 30 minute intervals for D box in 3D and IMAX. The entire theater was basically dedicated to showing end game. At the very first showing on Thursday there were absolutely no empty seats when I saw the movie. What amazes me about that is that one movie brought together hundreds of people from different backgrounds under one shared fandom. While watching End Game we laughed together, we cheered together, and we cried together. It's something amazing to see so many people satisfied by the same thing. The arcs of the original avengers we have come to know and love did not dissapoint me or leave me feeling empty. I didnt find myself questioning the direction at any point. The plot was captivating from beginning to end. The after math of the snap in infinity war was gut wrenching and emotional. I truely felt connected to the devastationthanos caused. End game completed the Avengers storyline with one of the most amazing battle sequences of all time. Although the avengers story was completed, End Game assured me the MCU still has a bright future. There are so many stories yet to be told. This movie's title carries the implication that it is the end of Marvel, but after watching it I feel the opposite. This is only the beginning. I look forward to more MCU characters and stories in the future. Above anything else, thing this movie made me certain that this is the age of the superhero.
Hellboy (2019)
I walked out of the theater on this one.
It was so bad I left fifteen minutes in. Just dont even waste your time or money. Listen to all the bad reviews on this one. Watch the original ones instead and we can forget this one ever happened.
Shazam! (2019)
Just Another Parody People Seem To Love
This movie made me want to draw a bath to contemplate my life choices before dropping a toaster in with me and yelling SHAZAM as my last words. Seriously, this movie was so bad. I don't understand how so many people are liking it. The acting was cringeworthy. The plot was stupid. There was hardly ever a score of background music like most super hero movies. The movie was set in Philadelphia rather than Fawcett City, but violated so many more things from the comics than just that. The villain was incredibly underwhelming even with the help he had from multiple extremely powerful beings. The jokes fell flat. This was such a let down after Aquaman. DC finally made a decent movie besides wonder woman then they went and did this. DC is not a comedy!!! It's supposed to be dark and serious. Stop giving us movies that make fun of the genre! This felt more like a parody than a super hero movie. How do people like this trash??
Pet Sematary (2019)
Scarier than I expected
This movie surpassed all my expectations. I have read the book or seen the original movie, but I enjoyed many of King's other works. I had a hard time believing zombie pets could be scary, but this movie proved me wrong. It was far scarier that the 2017 remake of "IT", though a little less entertaining. My only complaint is: I wish the myth of what is beyond the pet cemetery was explored more in depth. I found myself wanting to know what other horrors lurked in the dark forest. Overall, it was great movie. The acting was good and the plot was decent. Its worth going to see if you liked IT.
Dumbo (2019)
Dumb.......oh?
Michael Keaton gives his same worn out act that just felt awkward. I was half expecting him to lean towards the camera at any moment and whisper "I'm batman" with his classic duck lipped expression. The plot was riddled with the conveniences of lazy writing. Characters showed up in scenes that could only be possible by teleportation. Yet despite the mediocre story and conflict, I found myself completely drawn to the elephant known as Baby Jumbo, or is it Dumbo? Gumbo? Reguardless, he was cute and loveable. Speaking of cute and loveable, Danny devito's character was just that. He bore a striking resemblance to his portrayal of "Frank" in "Always Sunny". Beyond that, the movie was "eh." The plot fell flat but the visuals were great. It wasn't the worst film ever, but I wouldn't hold my breath on this live action adaptation. Now that I have seen the finished product I stand firm in my opinion that it probably didn't need to happen in the first place. Please give us a live action Treasure Planet instead, Disney.
