That's Entertainment!
3 March 2024
I missed this in the Cinema, timing wasn't right it was gone once it was, I have been entertained by films since I was about four or five, my parents both served in World War Two they enjoyed movies it was one of the main forms of entertainment, I picked up the bug.

One thing I learnt was just because I didn't like the film it didn't make it a bad film, of course I didn't learn that till I had grown up, some of reviews on here could be from Children, or adults that have yet to grow up, I have seen a review of a film that took over 2 Billion at the box office and the reviewer said " it's the worst film I have ever seen " I felt certain that reviewer clearly hadn't watched it. I loved The Creator but then I am a big fan of Science Fiction, and that's what it is, a good Science Fiction movie and if you're not a fan then you might not like it, but that doesn't make it a bad film, don't let reviews decide which film you see or don't see.

Critics, who needs them?
20 December 2023
Just watched Green Lantern on streaming services, I had heard it was rubbish and choosing Ryan Reynolds was a mistake because he's too lightweight, well guess what he is not, if I had paid IMAX prices to see that film I would have l quite happy and thoroughly entertained because it was entertaining.

The 10-15,000 people who worked to create that film should be proud of what they achieved, was it the Godfather or Shawshank? No it wasn't but then it wasn't meant to be, it was a super hero movie, did they achieve what they intended? Yes they did, it wasn't Endgame but what is? While there are movies that are a 10 out of 10 there is no film out there worth a 1 out of 10 and anyone that gives any film a 1 is beyond arrogant as while you may may not like, it that does not make it a bad film.

Sisters are doing it!
28 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Had to type something up have seen the rating and some reviews, I find it bizarre that a film where the protagonists or heroes are women that the votes go down, I saw one review stating " women beating big men ridiculous " I watched the film for pure entertainment, nothing more, if I didn't like the film I would switch it off, but I did because it was an entertaining film, it's why they are made. And for a change it was the ladies all of whom had been double crossed by the men they trusted who against all odds got the job done, so my advice and this goes for any film, go watch it be your own critic, you never know you may find some men's out there waiting to be seen. 10/10, have to try and counter the silly low ratings because the girls beat the men, refreshing is it not?

Good SciFi innit!
9 June 2023
Just finished watching X-Men Apocalypse, I confess I'm a little late to the party but, damn that was good, I had only ever seen a trailer and really had no idea what to expect, should have had double popcorn it would have been worth it.

It seems from some of the reviews that there are people watching SciFi that don't seem to understand what it means, this was to date the best X-Men film I've seen and I mean best, this was edge of the seat excitement I gave this film 9 out of 10, couldn't go higher that would put it up with infinity war and End Game and it wasn't that good, the only slight disappointment was Apocalypse, he wasn't quite as apocalyptic as I thought he would be, I expected the X-Men to have a little more trouble with him still good movie and any true SciFi fan will enjoy it.

It's SciFi not the theory of everything!
30 January 2023
I don't want to make this long but please armchair critics, it's painfully obvious you don't like films just trashing them, I and billions of others watch films to be entertained, sometimes the film fails for me this entertained and then some.

The concept from a SciFi standpoint was inspired, Aliens seeded life on earth and then we had a moon which was an enormous engine designed to sustain us, according to physicists the universe was around nine billion years before the earth, so in SciFi land anything absolutely anything is possible, would it have been better if the big studios had thrown everything at it of course it would but this I gave 10, because that's how much I enjoyed the film.

And if I had known about the film I would've paid to see this in IMAX!

It's Science Fiction guy's
21 October 2022
Just watched Independence Day Resurgence yet again, why? Because it's an entertaining Science Fiction film sequel, all you people giving the low or very low rating really don't get the concept, you have to focus on the second word, Fiction, that means it doesn't have to make sense or be logical.

Science Fact you'll find at NASA!

The fact that I have watched this film several times means it's entertaining and that at the end of the day means the people that made the film, they did okay. Ever since they came into being it is a rare thing when critics either real or pretend, have ever been in agreement with the great Cinema going public, perhaps the only thing movie fans around the world really care about is " did I enjoy the film " and that is it.

Critics? The only people that really need critics are critics, the great masses vote with their money.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II (2022)
Season 1, Episode 2

It's Star Wars!
25 September 2022
Have watched two episodes and overall I enjoyed Obi-Wan Kenobi, is it perfect? No but then what is? But as a form of entertainment it is superior to just about anything else on your TV screens of late, by the way it won't have escaped notice the low ratings, this is down to junior critics, I cannot confront them so when they mark down I mark up, if you enjoyed Obi-Wan give it a 10! It may help to bring balance to the Force. I need to extend to 600 characters which is a shame but no problem, this and Andor will never match the films how could they? A new hope changed the way studios made films, but the films have finished and once they have a couple of series under they're belts Star Wars fans will have something to watch in the cold winter months.

As Kirk said, we have to change!
16 July 2022
This was was good, very good in fact it was better than that, I gave it the full 10 stars, why when I know it wasn't the real Star Trek crew? Things change everything does, it had everything a rousing space adventure could ever need, the vast majority of people that pay good money to watch a film do it to be entertained and I was Royally entertained.

I know there are a lot of armchair critics on IMDB they seem to watch a film for errors and mistakes, while looking for those you fail to see what is good about a film, it also means you end up going to see films you don't even like, Movies only have one purpose to entertain the paying public, so I'm afraid critics be they employed or the armchair variety are about as welcome as Covid 19, I have watched all Star Trek films through all the generations and for me all I can hope is they carry on making them.

Why oh why!
27 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been a really good film but for the Director deciding to make everyone an idiot except the bad guy, even the Sheriff who you could assume was fairly well educated decides to shoot the good guy and let the bad guy go.

Of course had she continued as per her training the film would be over, so no let's try and keep the suspense and raise it but when everyone's playing dumb it kind causes all the suspense to evaporate, then you just need to focus on the least likely suspect, as for calling this a whodunnit, I think poor old Agatha would be turning in her grave.

Act of Valor (2012)
8/10
For the 4%
21 January 2022
Watching this film it's clear they tried to make it as realistic as they could, that is realistic in the military world a world completely different from the world the rest of the world live in.

The film has got some awful review's which I can understand because the military doesn't really understand entertainment so accept it for what it is and know that should you ever find yourself on a hijacked aircraft the men whose job it is to save you don't get offended that most of you think they are boring, just be glad they turn up.

The film was good in all the right places, the assistance they got from the navy was exceptional, I would say it could have done with being not quite as long but would be difficult to know what to cut, I gave it 8.

Now You See Me (I) (2013)
8/10
Now you didn't see it!
26 December 2021
I had seen many clips though in reality they were probably musta few often repeated, but it's Boxing Day I'm scrolling looking to be entertained, along comes now you see me, press the button, Now you see me is a very entertaining film, but only if you were open to being entertained.

Luckily I was so it worked and worked well, and like everyone else who watched it the twist totally caught them out, no spoilers watch the film.

Now at the end of the day that is job done, because the actors, director, producers and all the other thousands of people involved in it's creation have made a film that entertains well done people, I give it 8 and look forward to the second instalment.

NCIS: Rule 91 (2021)
Season 18, Episode 16
7/10
They don't make them like they used to.
23 June 2021
Season 18, while not vintage NCIS has been entertaining with the caveat that they made the during a global pandemic, to be honest the writing was on the wall at the end of season 17, that was cut short so we should have been prepared for season 18 being, different.

No surprise that it was, but it was still good enough for me to look forward to season 19, I'm happy to cut the writer's, producers, actors and all the hundreds of other people needed to make NCIS the slack needed to get through the pandemic and get back to what for the most part they have done for the last 18 seasons, and done very well.

The greatest movie ever, but that's my opinion.
17 September 2020
I can remember watching this film sat on the floor next to my mother in the mid sixties needless to say it was her favourite film. Have to say as a 10 year old I can say I liked the music in the soundtrack but being over 3 hours long that was way too much for 10 year old me, but as an adult it became a favourite and decades later it is my favourite film, Gone with the Wind could never be remade because back then even the character actors were blessed with great talent, the whole ensemble from Victor Fleming onwards add a great story the backdrop of the civil war you could maybe think there's no way it could go wrong, eight decades later people are calling for it to be banned, it depicts slavery, it also depicts the end of slavery, it even gave an Oscar to an African American actor for the first time. So I say leave it alone it's a great film that's a part of cinematic history which portrays another darker period in history, all I can say to those who would ban this film is leave it alone it has its place in history just as the slavery depicted in the film has its place in history, so learn from it, that's what history does, it teaches those that come after what happened that's all no morality or this is good or that's bad that's for the people who study or just look back on history, all anyone can do today is learn from it but leave it intact for those that come after you so they can learn.

Fury (2014)

It's just a story!
1 March 2020
I've just finished watching Fury for the second time, and yes it was better than the first, very much so, I watch films purely for enjoyment I'm no armchair critic any reviews I do are just my own somewhat myopic opinion. So a war film, I find it somewhat surprising that war films seem to be harder to make than war itself, good war films anyway and this is a damn good one, I was surprised to see this was a work of fiction it was very well put together and as authentic looking as modern morality will allow, so watch Fury and then watch it again because though the producers state it's fiction I would bet a good limb that that actions like this happened many times during WW2, it's just they didn't really rate a mention, and while I find that a little sad don't let it detract from a very good film.

Star Trek (2009)

Down the rabbit hole!
15 December 2019
Where oh where do you start with JJ Abrams? Have been watching Star Trek since the original, all the the different series and all the films, all of which made Paramount plenty of money, but I guess they didn't make as much as Star Wars did so the suits think " we need a rethink, reworking or reboot " so a whiz through the rollerdex and out pops JJ Abrams. I get that trekkies are older and you're looking for new blood, new fans to watch Star Trek films and spend lots of money, but this was surely the least best option you had, I mean you should at least have thought " we have a good fan base so let's be sure not to piss them off and alienate them, then along comes JJ and does just that. You want to reboot then you should have rebooted properly dropped all previous names and connections and started with a blank slate, had they done that then aside from keeping a lot of Trekkies happy new ones would have been made, after all in Science Fiction almost anything is possible.

I can't believe they all watched it!
11 December 2019
Before I watched this film I had already seen lots of negative reviews, have to say I was a little confused thinking how could a company spend all that money on such a bad film then I notice that it didn't do that badly at the box office. The only thing I could do was buy the Blu-ray and watch it because if I do buy the film I will watch it, now there is a lot of things appear in some reviews that to me seems a little pretentious, suffice to say I am not a film director wannabe or any other of the many talents needed to make a film I just like watching good films. Now Captain Marvel do I think it's a good film? Yes I do very much and I admit I have no problem with a female being the most powerful Superhero, I was actually on the edge of my seat during the film and that doesn't happen too often. If you are thinking of buying the film and you're a fan of Sci-fi then do so and watch it but don't expect the Avengers, watch it with an open mind and I don't think you will be disappointed, I gave the film a rating of 9.

The kind of story films were made for.
8 December 2019
I first watched this as a young lad on a Sunday afternoon matinee, as with a lot of films I watched back then I knew nothing about it other than it wasn't a cowboy or war film, they were about the only films that interested this young boy. This film changed my whole perception of what a film could portray and the emotions they can wring out of you, all I knew at the time was that this was the first film that brought tears to my eyes, didn't even know why at the time just that I couldn't stop it which I found very embarrassing, didn't know why that was either it just was then. Anyone interested in watching this film I would thoroughly recommend this version as the the level of talent on show is about as good as it was possible to get so sit down get comfy and let yourself be taken by a very good story wherever your emotions will allow, I rate this film a 10.

What's wrong with Sci-fi?
23 November 2019
Went into this film expecting nothing and knowing little, but it's Sci-fi so had to have a look. And what did I find? To be honest I found surprise, based on a whacky idea I'll admit but then how often does that happen in Sci-fi? Quite a lot over the decades. So the basic plot is the world as we know it is destroyed so people now live in towns and cities that are mobile, imagine that, putting London on tracks! You do get the feeling that as the human race evolved after the end of the world and planning their future that they took a left instead of right, but you can't knock them for that. Reading another review I noticed somebody say " okay it has been panned for ripping off Star Wars but that's no reason bash the film " personally to me if Mortal Engines is like any film it's Waterworld, only in this case substitute " the smokers " for London. So is it worth watching? Now I've seen it I have to say yes, and I feel sure that if this had been made before any of the MCU came it would have been rated higher, is there anything wrong of course there is, the film poses far too many questions and gives too few answers, kind of makes you think they planned a sequel though it didn't make enough money for that, as a Sci-fi film I enjoyed it and will watch it again I can also see Mortal Engines becoming a cult film in time, I gave it seven stars and it's worth every one of them.

The good the bad and the rest of us.
23 July 2019
I bought this film at the same time as Flags of our Fathers. It was a while before I watched Flags of our Fathers and wasn't overly enthused by the film, I've seen and read quite a bit about Iwo Jima and Flags didn't really add anything new The other film just went into my DVD library, I have seen many very good films with subtitles but they require a lot of concentration and 2 hours plus of Japanese actors shouting at each other didn't grab me, should have known different should have realised that Clint Eastwood didn't make the film because he was bored. Watching tv one night a program was on, no idea what it was about but during a segment there were many clips from war films, suffice to say as it rolled through the picture of combat became more and more realistic and more violent, so I ran back through to see what the more modern films were and was surprised to see Letters from Iwo Jima, kind of thought wow, then realised it was made by Clint Eastwood so the following night I put it on, 2 1/2 hours later I was stunned, not by the Quality of the film but the subject matter, I've seen films on many wars and conquests and there are always 2 sides to everything but this was the first I had seen anything from the Japanese viewpoint, the big conclusion it left me with is we are all human, even throughout the most barbaric times in our history of which there have been too many to count, the Japanese on Iwo Jima were human beings caught in a terrible situation over which they had no control which is pretty much the case for all soldiers caught up in just about any conflict in history, I saw a comment from someone surprised that Clint Eastwood made the film and not the Japanese, the answer is simple, if Japan hade made the film no one outside Japan would believe it as anything other than propaganda.

Should have done better.
10 June 2019
Had a look at the reviews see which way the wind was blowing and judging by the reviews and my own I'm at a loss it didn't do better at the box office, it even begins with a good bite, the characters are good and a good mix of tension and laughs, no it's not Jaws and doesn't pretend to be, it it's a good way to spend 90 minutes and Betty White is a treat as always.

Constantine (2014–2015)
9/10
A great show killed off far too soon.
12 February 2019
Still watching the first and as it turns out only series of Constantine, I couldn't believe when I read it had been cancelled after one season, it's rare the networks even let through a series like this and coming from the UK we only get very few of them. I watched every episode of Grimm and Sleepy Hollow and halfway through I think Constantine has them both beat, the characters are all very watchable though I'm pretty sure anyone as prickly as Constantine would get thumped a little more than he does but no one's perfect and that includes TV execs, you had a gem here and you let it go, I can only hope some other studio picks it up and runs with it i for one will be glued to the screen when they do.
