The Romantic Englishwoman (1975)
The End?
I cannot believe I have never seen this 1975 film. I always watch everything and anything with Michael Caine and also Glenda Jackson. But a perpetually "searching for myself" bored housewife Glenda, and the so-jealous husband Caine, become tedious. As for the utter cheek of the German gigolo - words fail at the nerve of him.
But the end. Just WHAT was The End? Glenda and Caine drive up to .... a hotel? And just sit there in the car, staring at it. The End. Whaaat?
Will someone explain what the point of that was?
Pompei, ieri, oggi, domani (2007)
Copy cat (Spoilers)
Whaaat? They have copied the wonderful 1961 film Spartacus with Kirk Douglas and Jean Simmons and Peter Ustinov! Almost word for word, and gesture for gesture, even down to......he touches and holds her hands as she pours from a jug of water into his goblet. And the gladiator trainer goads him into fighting. He takes a beating for her. And the beginning - he is a Thracian, known for his fighting against his enslavement, and is bought by the man who trains gladiators....the amazing Peter Ustinov in the film. And the upper class Roman and his sister come to the gladiator school with an important friend - Laurence Olivier in the film. Everything they say and do, copied from Spartacus!
That's as far as I've got, so will continue for a while, bytndoubt to the end, to see how much more they've copied from Spartacus......a film which can NEVER be bettered. The sets of Pompeii are good.
But the nitty gritty is the utterly APPALLING voices dubbed in. Completely false, child like, obviously sitting in front of a microphine reading the lines from a script. TOTALLY spoilt. It's INCREDIBLY bad. How it ever got dubbed to be a film for English I just do not know.
