Fahim (2019)
A Touching Story
A father leaves Bangladesh with his son Fahim, a chess enthusiast to introduce him to the French Master of this discipline and allow him to fulfill his dream even if the truth is much darker. Fahim is a film inspired by a true story, a story that highlights our humanity, but also the big problems of our society. The characters of the film are very touching, Assad Ahmed who is rather bluffing in the role of the little Fahim but also his father played by Mizanur Rahaman who delivers a delivery of a great sensitivity. Isabelle Nanty is always so friendly and I do not think I need to explain why Gerard Depardieu is a monstrous actor. Fahim is not a great risk-taking and even chess games are filmed with simplicity, but we let ourselves be carried away by this story which takes its main strength in its relation to the real facts. And it's a good thing.
Chambre 212 (2019)
Really-well written
A woman with a very special character has been cheating on her husband for years with young, well-groomed minots. The husband ends up realizing, and the couple takes a night to think about their separate states of a simple alley. This film is a very good surprise, it is expected by reading the synopsis to a French drama all that is classic and schoolboy but we find ourselves in front of a truly touching work combining comedy, fantasy and obviously drama. The 4 main characters are played with great accuracy, special mention to Chiara Mastroianni and Vincent Lacoste who plays characters with very nice attitude. Christophe Honoré delivers a film to the screenplay that I have already seen dozens of times, but never in this way.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019)
Sympathetic but Useless
I say it right away. Breaking Bad is my favorite series. I am in love with all the characters in this series, especially Walter White and the protagonist of El Camino, Jesse Pinkman. This Jesse, tortured by the neo-Nazis, has just been saved by his former partner and will try to flee the police who is obviously looking for him. The film is the direct result of the series and .. Do not serve much. That we agree, the film is not bad at all, we follow it with pleasure, it is well paced and it's great to find these characters who have changed for the most part, yes I look at you Tod and your extra 20 kilos .. But without spoiler, Jesse has no evolution in this movie, he does not change at all, he is just as ingenious and daring as at the end of the last season. The last shot of Jesse in the show was certainly not a closed end for the character but it was so beautiful. He was happy, out of this rotten world, finally free. The message was clear, as a spectator, I was thrilled with this end, I did not need to see what was going to happen to him. In any case there were only two possible outcomes that I had imagined, and the film takes one of these, without surprises. All I want to say is that Breaking Bad and especially Jesse Pinkman did not need this movie. The last new images of this cult character are much less striking than those of the season 5 and it is rather a pity. But again, El Camino does not shame Breaking Bad at all, and recalls why it's one of the best shows of all time.
