Mortal Kombat (2021)
90% fanservice
I've expected nothing expect visuals and familiar heroes, their specials and fatalities. I'm satisfied (expect Reptile reincarnation which is silly). Plot is flat, character's are stupid, but I don't care as long as I hear that techno.
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Interesting setup, poor plot
The movie derives an interesting and somewhat fresh approach to zombie movies from the first one -- 28 Days Later. But that time, it fails to deliver the story. Characters are inconsistent, just created to cover a lot of plot holes. They somewhat serve their role, but you could never relate to them. Yet you can't believe in 28 Weeks story overall. There are just too many assumptions screenwriters don't bother to explain.
Aritmiya (2017)
Tear jerking drama about nothing
I didn't get the idea of that movie. I don't understand why director have made it. There are a couple of different episodes that somehow tied to each other. Some of the are pretty intense, some are even beautiful. But there is now story line. No character development. No purpose to feel empathy for protagonists. The story of family conflict is written poorly. We don't understand why Katya and Oleg are so mad at each other. No communication, no history, just pure feeling that something is wrong with relationship. And at the end they just somehow solve it. In very irrational way, the director even don't show us how. It's just solved, OK? No more questions. The paramedic work story is not better. The screenwriters have tried to add some complexity raising ethic problem. But they're playing single role - indicating main characters job difficulties affected by personal life issues. No catharsis here. And finally all that complications are somehow solved. Director won't describe it too you. You just have to admit it. There is also another 2017 release about Russian despair - Loveless by Zvyagitsev. It is way more cold and unfriendly than Arrhythmia but it is way easier to believe in it.
