Tediously ridiculous
24 July 2022
Expecting us to beleive Gabe has never had a proper girlfriend in the 20 years since childhood is poor casting. Maybe cast someone uglier or nastier or stupider. Then that he is so gullible that he would dispose of a dead body for an old schoolfriend not seen for 20 years, then that the ludicrous series of coincidences would then occur, and that a woman allegedly a victim of domestic abuse who accidentally kills someone in self defence would refuse to go to Police rather than ruin a load of lives with little chance of 'getting away with it' is just too much of a 'willing suspension of disbelief'!

Total absence of narrative sense
18 May 2022
"Hodgepodge of moments that make no more artistic or narrative sense than expecting us to be scared when the undead character reveals that, yes, she is in fact still undead. It's a trite, lazy, condescending mess from start to finish." I cant agree more...

Slow, Tedious, Horrible people
12 March 2022
Nothing much happens for most of the series, apart from the main character being a psycho paranoid wife. No idea how their marriage has lasted this long. Very unlikeable character. But then so is everyone else. Even the scenery looks a bit 'ravaged' and a distinct lack of sunshine...looks mostly overcast...literally and psychologically.

Utter utter tosh
10 March 2022
Farcical premise. Obviously the first thing someone would do if they came home to find their house had been sold without their knowledge is speak to their solicitor! If their signature was forged then its not a legal sale. Plus a signature on a house salecontract has to be witnessed. So simple to see who witness was as they must put their details. What a totally stupid plot.

Tries too hard and fails

Clearly following a template for a 'successful' light hearted small town drama but lazy directing and poor script writing doom it from scene 1.

Nice accents from townsfolk.

Nice scenery.

But not much else.

Change the script writer
17 April 2020
Its sad that a great non violent male role model was scrapped but the worst thing abour the new series' is the appalling wrtiting. Tedious in the extreme. Clearly a frustrated historian keen on lecturing all of us (Chibnall?). If the poor scripts continue I will have to stop watching...life is too short

Brilliantly apposite until last 15 mins or so
17 April 2020
Remarkably realistic and easy to consider an accurate prediction. Especially love Grans speech at start of Ep 6. Says it all really. But it seemed like the show lost its nerve with the ending. Totally unrealistic ending. Sunlight is NOT a disinfectant. We see this even now. Its grim but credible vision of what's coming right around the bend for all of us is depressingly realistic until the weak cop out finale...

Yet another tediously slow and uninspiring drama
15 September 2017
Am a uk expat in Aus. so i watch anything British in vain hope of decent drama. But They seem to like purchasing tedious dramas instead of decent ones. Haven't read the book. Haven't even finished watching series. Tediously slow, dragging things out like there is no real content. Character of Serena is not likable. Needs a slap by her daughter when in car for sure. Character that was in prison is wet blanket. After 30 mins I jumped on IMDb to see if it was worth wasting my time with. It seems not...certainly at least one review sums up my thoughts on it so far and they advise not bothering. I certainly wouldn't advise anyone bothers given the tedium n dull character acting of episode 1. Life is far too short.

Tedious teenage angst and pointless prolonged drama
15 September 2017
I haven't read book but was attracted by title. First 30 mins was good. Such promise. Sadly after that it was a complete waste of time. Rather than spend time writing a further review I can say Mendhak's review perfectly sums it up: "a jumble of time-lines and a storyline filled with teenage angst and pointless drama. It is also full of needlessly prolonged scenes that make no sense, but which you can feel the director congratulated himself over. Also, this movie has nothing to do with prime numbers. Prime numbers may have been mentioned in one or two sentences in the movie, but were never the focus. I wonder if there was a better reason in the book for using the words 'prime numbers'. " Don't waste your time on it...even the cinematography descended into rubbish after first 30 mins....

Fails to live up to expectations
2 September 2017
Had high hopes given how good Vera is. But this series is tediously slow. Almost comatose. Cliché story lines n plots. Yeah you get to see the Shetland Isles in all their (mostly wet) glory. But it isn't enough. I have absolutely no idea how a second series was commissioned, never mind 4! I dread to think how laughably obvious the plots must be by series 3. But i will never know. Life is far too short. I only watched past series 1 episode 3 cos I am an ex pat in Aus n needed a fix of dreary UK weather....which it delivered. I do note there are a lot of opposing reviews...predominantly from the USA. I think that says a lot. Mostly that the American definition of predictable cliché n dull isn't the same as a Brits. Or maybe they just find the accents make it more interesting. Or make the characters appear more deep and imaginative. I love a Scottish accent but don't find it at all hard to understand, so I did not find any of the characters in the least bit interesting....
