Reba: Seeing Red (2003)
Season 2, Episode 14
10/10
One of the funniest episodes
5 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First of all what was considered a goof in this episode was not a goof. Cheyenne and Van had an argument in the kitchen. Van stayed in the kitchen and Cheyenne went upstairs. A few minutes later Cheyenne came back down the stairs and turned towards the kitchen to yell at Van. If he had been upstairs then she would have turned back towards the upstairs. Van was in the kitchen the whole time until he came out and sat on the sofa with Barbara Jean.

The episode was well written, believable and funny. It showed several aspects to the characters both negative and positive. Reba still trying to punch Barbara Jean while she was being carried out over Brock's shoulder was just too funny. In the end it all worked out.

The Sound of Music Live (2015 TV Movie)
7/10
Not a bad stage production
3 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think it is right to compare this to the movie so I will review it as the stage show that it was originally intended to be. This was not an attempt to recreate the movie but the stage version.

I thought the casting was fine and the singing for the most part was good but not fantastic. The actor who played Captain Georg Von Trapp was very good. I thought that the children were well cast and looked close to the ages of the characters. One of my main objections was the costuming. The real Von Trapp children wore sailor suits not the ugly blue and gray outfits the children wore in this show. High button shoes were not in style during this time. Certainly the captain could afford new shoes for his children especially for the ball and his wedding. Otherwise it was a fine production, but really no better than a high school or college musical.

Bewitched: TV or Not TV (1971)
Season 8, Episode 8

Cute episode with one flaw
28 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode Tabitha zaps herself into a Punch and Judy show and as a result is cast in the show. (Punch and Judy were puppets which were first seen in 16th century Italy. You can search the internet for more information on Punch and Judy. I have never been a fan of Punch and Judy. I just never thought they were funny. ) The show is sponsored by one of her father's clients. I enjoy the episodes which feature Tabitha. She is so cute and a good actress for one so young. I think the dresses she wore in this episode were darling. Kathy Hilton nee Richards played the daughter of the sponsor was 12 at the time while Erin Murphy was 6. I thought that Kathy Hilton was too old for the role and not believable as a child talking to puppets.

Animal Farm (1999 TV Movie)
5/10
The book is better
14 March 2023
George Orwell wrote both "Animal Farm" and "1984" to show the evils of communism. I read both books in high school over 50 years ago but I still remembered much of what was written in the books. George Orwell was not trying to write a cute story for little children. It is no "Babe" or "Gordy" or "Charlottes Web" There are too many changes from the source material to make the movie suitable for children and to have the required Hallmark happy ending. I thought that the special effects were very good. The CGI animals did look real to me. The acting was also very good. This was Paul Scofield's last movie. I did enjoy the movie but i preferred the book more.

Scrooge (1935)
6/10
Good but not great
26 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Considering that it was made in 1935 and was the first talkie version I won't judge it too harshly. The acting in some scenes was overdone. The best example of this is the scene in which Belle tells Scrooge that the won't marry him due to his greed. The other problem with this scene is that Seymour Hicks at age 64 plays his younger self and the actress playing Belle is 40 years old. Sir Seymour Hicks makes a good Scrooge overall. There is an unnecessary scene comparing the wealthy with the poor which shows an elaborate banquet and the guest singing "God Save the Queen" while starving onlookers peer in the windows. Perhaps the money spent on these scenes meant that the budget had to be cut for others. Scenes of Scrooge's past were missing that are important to understand his change of heart. I still recommend watching the 78 minute version at least once.

Better if you have never read the book.
26 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This version takes many liberties from the original story by Charles Dickens. That is the main problem with it. Otherwise it is an entertaining film to watch. The acting is good for the most part. The Cratchit children are all range in age from "Tiny??Tim" who is about twelve to Martha who appears to be about twenty. They all act much younger. They also look much too healthy for the characters that they are portraying; a very poor family.

There are scenes added that were not in the book and really added nothing important to the story. Scrooge calls in the police when the ghost of Marley visits him. Terry KIlburn is about five or six years too old to play " Tiny Tim" It is still enjoyable to watch but other versions are much better and closer to the book.

Most other versions are better but this is ok.
24 December 2022
If you are looking for a version that is very close to the Dicken's story this will disappoint you. If you are just looking for something fun to watch at Christmastime then this is fine. It does tell the basic story but adds some extra scenes and characters. The songs are mediocre but the singers are good. Kelsey Grammer is a good actor but he does much better as Fraser Crane than as Ebenezer Scrooge. He isn't bad as Scrooge but he isn't great either. This version was a Broadway musical so it looks much more like that than a story set in old England. Grab some popcorn and beverage and watch it for fun. Then watch the 1951 and the 1984 versions.

I doubt that anyone involved with this movie ever read the book.
26 March 2022
In the first place even though Disney claims this is based on the original book and gives the author's credit there is no similarity between the original story and this movie other than both are about large families. All Disney did was use the title. The same is true with the Steve Martin version. Why not just give both movies original names since they are all totally different movies. That being said this movie was awful so woke and predictable. There were so many stereotypes. One of the worst was the pool mom that they list in the credits as "Karen pool mom" which is so unfair to the many decent girls and women named Karen. I didn't even finish the movie.

I am an American and I enjoy this program.

I don't think it is necessary to insult people and call them stupid because they like or dislike this program. I subscribed to Britbox and Acorn TV because I think that for the most part British Productions are better than the American ones. I find this program clever and funny. I do have some knowledge of British history and of Shakespeare's plays. I am tempted to watch some of his works on film soon. I'm glad I discovered this show.

A Christmas Story 2 (2012 Video)
5/10
I enjoyed it.
28 December 2019
Granted this isn't as good as the original but I didn't expect it to be. It wasn't meant to be an award-winning film just a fun movie to watch at Christmas time . The people who are angry that this movie was even made crack me up because they are so overdramatic about it . You don't like it don't watch it . It isn't hurting the original . Anyway I thought the cast was very good especially the boy who played Ralph . There were some funny moments as well as some heartwarming ones . Many of the gags from the original are repeated. I would have preferred substitute swear words rather than the actual ones . It did have a few scenes that were kind of annoying or unrealistic . Overall it's an enjoyable movie . Some have complained that the actors are not like the ones in the original Christmas story . To me that's no big deal . Every time the Parker family is filmed they are played by different actors of different ages . The age difference between Ralphie and Randy changes every time . Christmas story 2 is far from the best Christmas movie ever made it's also far the worst . I enjoyed it .

Good acting but horrible ending
30 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this movie until the last few minutes which ruined it for me. It is about a couple who, unable to have biological children hope to adopt a baby boy but end up with a girl instead. They seem to be loving parents. Five years later she plays an angel in a Christmas pageant. By the next scene she is dead and buried with no explanation as to why. The grief stricken couple separate. They get a call from the adoption agency informing them that a toddler boy, just like they wanted is available for them to adopt. They reunite and adopt him and live happily ever after.. It's not that I am against couples adopting after the death of a child. This all took place within a few days which is very unrealistic. It was as if now that they had a boy the little girl didn't matter anymore.
