Superman: Doomsday (2007)
the first real superman slobber knocker
I just bought the DVD today, and as soon as I got home I watched it. I wasn't disappointed. Just remember that this story is very loosely based on the comic book storyline. This movie doesn't hold back on the action one bit. The fight scenes are very intense, and fairly graphic, so keep this mind before letting your 5 year old watch it. The actors providing the voices did a good job, even James Marsters did OK as Lex Luthor, but I would have preferred if they could have gotten Clancy Brown back, I did miss him. One plot point that I was a little surprised at was the focus on the relationship between Superman and Lois. In this movie, the two are romantically involved, but unlike the comics, Superman hasn't revealed his secret identity to Lois yet. But that's just a small part of the story. All in all I wasn't disappointed, but just like a lot other people have commented, this movie should have been at least 30 minutes longer.
The Flash: Pilot (1990)
file under "brilliant but canceled"
I was really psyched about this show when it first aired on TV. I didn't much about the Flash, but I was always into comic book adaptations. This show never disappointed me. It had some really cool action, and the humor was just right for the atmosphere of the show. I honestly believe this show would have lasted longer it if hadn't been that the show seemed to be on a different night every week.
Having picked up the DVD immediately after it was released, I was pleased to see the show has aged well. Despite the fact that this show is sixteen years old, the special effects are still fairly impressive, even compared to what they can do today. The only gripe I have is the consistency of certain scenes. One scene the Flash can cross the city in less than a second, the next scene he's barely running faster than a car, yet he still has the blur effect of running very fast. However, I can overlook this because technology was still very limited when this show aired. But overall, it was a fun show to watch as a kid, and it's still fun today.
UHF (1989)
Sit back, shut your brain off, and enjoy
The only reason I never saw this movie in the theater was because I was too young to drive. However, when I was finally able to see it on video, I thought "This is stupid". The second time I watched it, I liked it more, and the more I watched it, the more I liked it. When I saw it available on DVD, I snatched it up right away. UHF is one of those movies that you can simply sit down with a bag of popcorn and a soda and and have some fun while your brain shuts down. I've always enjoyed movies like this, and being that I'm a big Weird Al fan made this movie that much greater. Full of sight gags, slapstick, and hilarious parodies, this is a movie for those who know how to not take themselves seriously.
