The franchise standing on it's 7th installment, lot has changed, but one thing didn't ,Tom Cruise. Tom at the age of 34 started his iconic role of Agent Ethan Hunt on MI: 1 is now a sexagenarian at 61 and at this age his sheer will and enthusiasm to perform death defying action sequences all by himself is indescribable.
Now coming to the movie , the story is a bit weak and it didn't excite me personally.
I think, as Dead Reckoning was plagued by COVID they were unable to shoot all the intended scenes and hence decided to split it into two parts. But still due to the lack of proper editing the runtime of the movie was a bit longer than it was meant to be. Also speaking of editing the jump cuts of Tom Cruise on the motorbike that leads to the hyped jump from the mountain seemed to be very boring and lengthy
Coming to the story, The theme of AI going rogue began way back in 1968 with 2001 A Space Odyssey and later Age of Ultron. I watched the movie today and it's not even sticking to my mind. When I left the theatre I almost forgot that I just saw a movie, not even a memorable scene. But that was not the case with MI:1 and Ghost Protocol.
Eventhough I watched MI:1 and Ghost Protocol from TV the amount of excitement that it delivered was huge. Still I remember most of the scenes from those movies. Those are my favourite movies in the series.
The screen presence of the villain done by Esai Morales was commendable.
The action scenes especially the train sequence with Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell was too dramatic and the VFX on those scenes were very evident.
It was the usual age old edge of the cliff sequence and one of the scenes reminded me of Paul Walker running on top of the bus that was about fall from a cliff on F&F 7.
There was no thrilling hand to hand combat scenes in this movie and the one on top of the train was too short. Most of the time the train was inside a tunnel . The fight sequence between Hayley Atwell and Rebeccca Ferguson with the villain also was very weak.
Overall part one is a watchable movie. Nothing exciting in my personal opinion.
The movie as a whole can be evaluated only after part two.
