Rick and Morty: Rickdependence Spray (2021)
Terrible, just terrible
Immature, boring garbage...I have no idea who was the writer for this particular episode, but they should NOT write any other episodes or this will probably be the last season for this show.
Rick and Morty is crass, sometimes gross, very politically incorrect...but it is witty and intelligent most of the time. This? This feels like it was written by a 14 year old horny boy who decided to put his fantasy on screen.
Loki: Lamentis (2021)
What on earth just happened to this show just after 2 episodes?
Did the head writer of this show suddenly quit and they hired a 12 year old?
How does a show that was setting up to be a quite intriguing and unusual sci fi, suddenly turns into a contrived garbage like this?
What is this god awful dialogue? This is not even on a level of a subpar last page Netflix sci fi series. Why are they communicating like 2 spoiled teenagers?
What is the justification for the completely idiotic behavior of the main Loki? Isn't he supposed to be a tactical mastermind of some sort?
He manages to deflect a falling building, like this is nothing? Why haven't he ever used THAT awesome power before? Or did he JUST discover it?
Who came up with these cartoonish costumes? It makes me think (hope) that all of this is just some kind of a huge simulation. If that's the big twist of the show - bravo, but if not?
I sincerely hope that this was just a hiccup of some sort and this show will not descend into subpar quality of this episode, because this will be one helluva "twist" and not a good one. I've seen shows that fall apart as they progress, but it is a bit early for this to happen in episode 3.
Port Authority (2019)
Could have been much better, but failed on multiple levels
Wooden, amateurish and cringe worthy acting, which is strange considering the fact that the male lead has acted in some serious movies.
Awkward dialogue.
No depth in the story.
A strange surreal ambience (not in a good way) that portrays some reality, which feels unnatural and anachronistic.
Overall, an amateurish execution that feels like a student film, which is a shame because the elements for an excellent movie seemed to be all there, but were simply not executed well.
An interesting musical score though. Enjoyed it a lot.
Defending Jacob: After (2020)
People really don't want to read between the lines, do they?
Overall, a great show...not awe inspiring, but a good watch.
To all those whining that it was never explained whether Jacob was the killer or not (neither in the book nor in the movie). It is not about WHO really killed him. It is about trust, it is about an appearance and public opinion that sticks to you no matter what. It is about self deception and delusion. As far as we are concerned, a totally different person killed Ben. Not Jacob and not Leonard Patz...but one character decided to take justice into his hands and exonerate his grandson...another character decided to close his eyes and find rational for everything even if it is completely irrational...
To those complaining about Laurie's decision being irrational and that the book gives more reason for her to attempt to kill Jacob (because of Hope turning up dead), miss the intricacy of the decision that the show creators made. This difference shows an arc of a woman who lost control long ago, but kept a straight face until she couldn't anymore. This entire show is about it...bottling emotions, turning away from your fears...smiling and saying "everything is fine" while the house is on fire. THAT'S what it is about...not about who actually killed Ben. I admit...I did not read the book, but I don't think that there was not enough reasoning for Laurie's character to make that decision. In the book, I guess it is a more calculated decision while in the series it is more of an impulsive one from a woman who lost self control. Both are valid story arcs.
The fact that the show runners left Laurie alive, also makes Andy's arc even stronger. He never redeemed himself. He kept lying to himself until the very last moment. He DID think Jacob is guilty, but convinced himself he didn't. He DID know that it wasn't a car accident yet convinced everyone it was. Everyone, except himself. That's why the show ends with him alone in the room. That's it...he finally removed the protective screen from all the lies he told himself. All in all a very good ending in my opinion. I doubt there will be more seasons. This ends...where it should.
The Walking Dead: Stalker (2020)
For god's sake...let ME write an episode. I am not a writer, but I'll do a better job!
Can someone put this show out of its misery already? Or just find decent writers?
I mean it is just astonishing...who writes this stuff? Are you aiming at intelligence level of 12 year old video gamers? Even they know that when someone is immobilized due to blood loss and previously shown losing massive amounts of blood...they will NOT survive a few hours...not to mention an entire night! I can even forgive the super human Beta being able to survive a 2 story fall into an elevator shaft without ANY injuries. I mean...being a really really tall guy does not make you super human! Being really strong does not make your bones indestructible. I can even forgive the fact that there is a gazillion of chances to kill Beta in this episode or at least wound him enough to immobilize him. Daryl not killing alpha because he wants to know "WHERE ARE THEY"?? 1) They are most likely dead from the massive explosion and the cave collapsing on them. 2) Alpha JUST walked out of a cave...how about you check there? The tunnel..don't even get me started, but still...what took the cake for me is the fact that both Alpha and Daryl survive a completely unsurvivable situation. I've been a big fan of the show through good times and bad times, but you are making it impossible to make the actual effort to finish watching this garbage...
Ad Astra (2019)
Utterly Forgettable
I gave this movie 5 stars for the nice cinematography and visuals.
There are some breath taking shots and stylistically an interesting cinematography in general, but not enough to keep this spectator's interest.
As far as story goes? It could have been told in 10 min, rather than 2 hours.
Not engaging, rushed, undeveloped and disjointed...most importantly NOT INTERESTING.
You can not take a completely bland idea and stretch it to a 2 hour long movie, throwing in some VERY basic psychological drama that fails to engage on every level. Brad Pitt gives a great performance, but he doesn't have much to work with.
Unfortunately, this movie is utterly forgettable, bland piece of work.
When They See Us (2019)
Disgusted by some of the reviews here...
Firstly, I will address the TV series itself and then the story behind it.
As far as actual cinema goes...A riveting spectacle. Sometimes, a bit slow and probably could have been done in 3 parts instead of 4, but nevertheless excellent! The cast is superb! Especially, Jharrel Jerome as Kevin Wise.
Now to the actual story: I've been reading some negative reviews here by people screaming that it is "Lies, propaganda", "how rapists get millions of dollars". What is wrong with you people? Of course, no one truly knows if they were 100% innocent or not, but look at THE FACTS of the case.
A known felon, with a history of Rape and Murder confessed to the crime. His DNA matched the DNA found on the victim. He confirmed details and characteristics of the crime that only he could have known. Next to that, you have 5 teenagers. NONE of their DNA matched the DNA found on the victim.
None of them had a drop of the victim's blood on their cloths. Read that last sentences again. None of them had a history of violence against women and most probably didn't even know what the word "rape" means. 5 Children were brought into an interrogation room, aggressively questioned (including physical violence) for almost 2 days without sleep, without food and without the presence of their parents, who were only present during the "confessions" later on. So you have 5 black (PC doesn't matter at this point) children from unprivileged socio economic and educational backgrounds who are questioned by predominately white police inspectors who use a variety of intimidation and manipulation techniques (both mental and physical) to get a confession out of them. Put most children in their place and they would say they freakin' killed the president, just so that they could go home....and without ANY physical evidence connecting them to the crime scene, with greatly conflicting versions in the confessions, with confused time lines and location descriptions, these people STILL get convicted in a trial that today, would have been thrown out the window after 5 min considering how many violations were made...and you STILL have the nerve to scream they were guilty and deserved to rot in prison? You are asking to look at the facts...did YOU go through them? Let me repeat that for you. NO physical evidence was found to tie the suspects to the crime scene. NO DNA matches, NO plausible motive. On the other hand, you have an individual that has all 3 and who has no connection to the 5 teenagers whatsoever, and you STILL want to make them guilty? Un-freakin'-belivable.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Just stop...please stop making this garbage
A complete and utter destruction of one of the most iconic superheroes.
0.1 effort and thought put into the storyline.
A coming of age awkward teenage movie with a "spiderman" stamp put on it.
Bad jokes aimed at teenagers (at best). A complete caricature of a villain, a complete caricature of a Spiderman. Just please stop making this garbage...
Put some god damn effort! A total waste of time...
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
10 for Visuals 1 For Plot...unless
Really? Seriously? This is how you end a story arc with the biggest build up in the show? A little girl kills the most powerful creature in the story with a cheap trick? A little girl who somehow magically managed to escape from being trapped in a room...I am assuming by jumping from the window? A girl went unnoticed by all the withes, the WW generals and managed to sneak up on the NK? Honestly?!
Now, leaving aside that this doesn't make any sense. It is extremely hard to believe that THIS is how the writers end this story. So I am sincerely hoping there is a twist. The only twist I could possibly think of right now is: we have seen Bran altering the past, which ultimately affected the present and the future, but what GOT showed is that the time line is predetermined. Events of the present merely explain what has happened in the past. It can not be changed...so my guess is that the reason Bran survives is because he was the reason for the creation of the night King and it happens AFTER the events of this episode. So, I sincerely hope there will be some kind of an explanation or justification for such a poor ending of such a promising story line.
If I had to be devil's advocate, I would say that GOT was never so much about the phantasy as much as it is about political games. That's what truly made it great. In season 7 it suddenly started to resemble a simple fantasy story a bit too much, so maybe this is the way of the writers to remind us that it is NOT a fairy tale with a big bad icy guy and the savior who will rise from fire to save the day?
If so, I guess I would be able to swallow it, if it was handled differently...but really not the way it did. I really hope the writers have some trick up their sleeve they are saving for the end. Otherwise, this will be the biggest spit in the face of the audience that Television has ever seen.
Wentworth (2013)
Two words: Pamela Rabe
The only reason I am giving this show a 9 is because I can not call it my absolute favorite, but other than that? Superb!
Intelligent dialogue, complex characters, evolving and intriguing story lines...most importantly - realistic! Oh, and did I say Pamela Rabe? If you just started watching, wait until this lady appears on the screen portraying the villain of the show. What a performance, every frame she occupies makes you feel uneasy...her rigid demeanor and at first seemingly unemotional behavior in contrast with her inevitable meltdowns is something utterly terrifying to watch... If I had to compare her portrayal of Joan Furguson in the series to another performance, I would say Javier Bardem in "No Country for Old Men"...the same menacing tension that comes every single time the camera lays its lens on him is present in Rabe's performance. Just brilliant! However, she does not get all the credit...I honestly couldn't find one actor in this series who wasn't utterly "inhibiting" their character.
A must watch for all prison themed TV shows and great TV in general.
