The Neighborhood: Welcome to the Repipe (2018)
I really like The Neighbohood! Funny Show!
Cute show. The Butlers are just starting to get to know the Johnsons. Max needs a plumber because his basement is flooded due to a broken pipe. So, Max asks Calvin to recommend a plumber in the area. Calvin decides that he will help Max fix a broken pipe in his new house. Watch the show to find out how it all turns out
During the show, Tina asks Gemma if she would like to take a shower at their house. Of course, Gemma accepts Tina's gracious offer. Tina gets Gemma a towel and a wash cloth for her shower. Gemma is unfamiliar with the purpose of the wash cloth. Tina explains that she and all the black people she knows use a wash cloth to bathe. Gemma responds that she doesn't know a white personality that does.
Well, here comes my public service announcement:
White people DO use wash cloths. I personally use wash cloths, every day. Every white person that I know uses wash cloths. I believe that it might be southern states versus northern states instead of black or white. I believe this because I am from the deep south and EVERYONE I know, black or white or otherwise, uses washcloths.
Vivarium (2019)
Warning: This is an abstract artistic movie.
This movie was written well enough that you are hooked in the beginning and you will probably want to see it through.
I believe that people are putting too much thought into what this movie is about. When you set aside the science fiction aspect of this movie, this movie is an abstract artistic commentary on how we, as a society, live our modern lives.
I do not believe that the following actually contains spoilers, but some might.
Okay, here goes...
Woman meets man.
They fall in love.
They decide to spend their life together.
They buy a home together out in the suburbs.
A pleasant cookie cutter house to call home.
Life traps them there.
This life is boring but it is pretty easy, everything is practically given to you.
They have a baby, unexpected, planned for just not expected quite yet.
They have to figure out how to raise and take care of the baby, it just screams until it gets what it needs.
Woman is naturally the primary caregiver to the child, while the man goes out of the home to work himself till death.
Before you know it, it seems like only yesterday that we got you, baby is grown.
Now that the child is grown, woman can now die in peace, because her job is done.
Child now enters the world and starts the whole process all over.
Anyway, that is it nothing more. For most people, their lives have virtually no adventure short of trying to figure out the next generation.
Life has become quite predictable and easy.
The Lion King (2019)
Stunningly beautiful! Horrible screenplay! Just DON'T!
First I want to say this, I just saw the Aladdin remake and loved it! So, I am not a hater of the new Disney "live" action remakes.
First of all, let me say, the movie is just stunning. No, it is not colorful and yes maybe it it has just a bit too much dust and grime but, it looks great! The animation is gorgeous! This is the only reason for a star. CGI has come a long way! And of course the score is good because, they had a great score to begin with. The look of the movie is also good because it is shot almost exactly, scene for scene, like the original.
So many people have already posted reviews detailing how bad it is so, I will add my two cents about it in ways that others have erred, in my opinion, or missed.
I must be the only one to hate the changes to Timon and Pumba. I am a big Seth Rogen fan, maybe I was expecting too much. These two characters brought in so much wonderful humor to the original and here they just didn't. I did not laugh at any of the jokes. And where Timon, in the original, stops Pumba from saying farted, he doesn't, and some poorly timed line comes next with a not so funny fart. So Disney now thinks that farts are more funny than excellent writing complemented by comedic timing. The duo had chemistry in this film but, they were not funny. It seems like the screenwriter, Jeff Nathanson, wanted to make sure that Timon and Pumba didn't steal the show this time??? I want to give credit though where I believe credit is due, I enjoyed the "Be Our Guest" substitution for the hula scene. It was unexpected and very funny, in my opinion. And, I guess politically correct. I actually laughed at that almost as much as I laughed at the original sequence.
I am not going to beat on the Beyoncé horse too much here. I did not hate her nearly as much as many others have. BUT that line, "Lions attack!," was bad. It was just horrible. That line really should go down as one of the worst lines ever written. Like seriously, did that have to be said. There were other lines in that scene that were just not needed but, that one is the absolute worst. That line was so sophomoric it is freshmanic. I had to make up a new word for that line. Did the other lionesses really NEED her to tell them to attack? I do believe they knew that on their own. Well, maybe they did need that to be said, because they forgot what their job was anyway. Notice how they weren't doing the hunting? Scar was. In the original, Scar even tells the hyenas that, "It is the lionesses' job to do the hunting." People, get over this feminist thing, in nature the lionesses really do all the hunting, not the lions. This is one time that the girl power is real and already there and you changed it. They, the lionesses, aren't cooking and cleaning for the man, they provide for the pride.
Anyway, as long as this was, I want to repeat that my review is not exhaustive. I am only adding to the long list of reasons why I wish this film hadn't been made.
People please, just don't watch it. It is not good and might tarnish your feelings about the original. It is wonderfully animated, that is it.
** This is to Disney directly... If you are going to make a remake of a favorite film and make it almost identical to the first, DON'T take out the best lines. Leave the good lines in! IDK I'm just saying.....
