Dead Ringers: One (2023)

Striving for perfection
21 April 2023
I'm at a loss for words this is so good. I'm a huge fan of Cronenberg and so far it's exceeding the original movie. I only have it at a 9:00 because this is the first episode and just like these pregnancies things can go down south pretty quick and pretty fast and end up dead on the floor. That said I don't pursue that happening this explores the story in a totally different way with scenes that are phenomenally acted. It has absolute cinematic looks with a intimate feel. The acting made me cry, wince, feel the emotions of all the characters in such a succinct way. This show is brutally violent and emotionally taxing in the best way possible.

Bye bye empty slinder man

Its not as bad as those but it's not good. It has a few of great things going for it especially the use of atmosphere to build tension instead of an over abundance of cheep jump scares but so much else just stacks up against it that I was more distracted than entertained.

It's terrible as an actual thriller/horror....it's AWESOME as a so bad it's good film, they truly tried to make a legit film about a killer elevator shift and the world is better for it!!!

Comics rule, TV series drools
11 September 2020
I wanted to at least give season 2 a few episodes before I wrote it off. They changed too much from the comics in the 1st season but it was still good enough for me to see what was coming and now that I have I'm done. If you haven't read it you will probably enjoy the show, it's fun and violent and is great for those who are over supes. Enjoy it if you do.

The Wretched (2019)
VVitch, please.

Wouldn't be fair to score this film as I only gave it 20 min to see if it was worth my time. It wasn't. Perhaps it would work for a "Blumhouse" kinda crowd but not for this seasoned horror vet. I'll just look at the stack of bills piled up beside me, far more terrifying than this dud.

432...why so many ones?!? Zing

I guess I'm the only person who likes this movie, given the rest of the reviews. I have seen it three times now so there is clearly something I like about it. I just now found out it was done by the gent who did the vicious Kill List (and The Ghoul) which is a great horror film that leaves you feeling awful by the end. This doesn't even compare to his other stuff but it has a dark atmosphere, mystery and claustrophobic feep to it that I enjoy. I feel like people HATE ambiguity in movies and this is full of it. I'm not one of those people. It's not nearly as bad as others are saying but if you like Whatley or military (because I wouldn't say it's Action)horror then check it out.

Death be not proud...
13 July 2020
To say I like these as movies wouldn't be accurate, it's more about fun of the how it's going to happen, the deluge of mostly awesome gore and creativity interconnected stories make the series well worth the watch. It's had it's ups (the chaos of the premonitions in 2) and downs (really crappy people as characters and jinky CGI over-top what was really good particle FX is the second worst idea Hollywood's ever had, next to all the sexual assault) as a franchise I would give it a solid 6. Final Destination ends on a very solid 7.5 and my favorite of the movies. The characters are mostly likeable and fairly well acted...mostly. The vicious Rube Goldberg traps are really top notch and well executed (even with some dated CGI overlay and 3D gimmick) and boasts the best kill of the series, a feat in itself! I didn't see the end coming at all and the impact of the death good characters gives it a quasi-emotional punch to it that the others lack. If it worked a little harder on rendering the CGI, some better characters (it also wouldn't hurt to throw in some boobies but that is a gripe not a criticism) and played down a lot of the black comedy slapstick it really could have been an 8.5.

Go, Ninja! Go, Ninja! Go!!!
9 July 2020
If I were penning this from my 7 year old son's pov it would be a 10. Few things can be as special to capture the hearts and minds of kids and parents alike as The Lego Movie could but all things considered It's really cute And fun! I LOVE watching my little guy get so excited and telling me everything about everything Ninjago.

Per aspera ad astra!
5 June 2020
It's not as political as you think, and when it is it's laughing at everything from Trump to AOC. The most political it gets is it goes hard on China...something unfounded in today's entertainment...and it's hopefully a wake up call to everyone that we need to pull together as one and get boots on the moon! As a show it's hit or miss, tho more hits than misses for me, most of the comedy works but I don't care most of the characters side stories when I should. It's not The Office In Space, which is a good thing, but I wish it was as funny and heartfelt as that is while still doing it's own thing. It's totes worth it if you enjoy Steve Carell John Malkovich work alone, but that's is to a fault. Hopefully season 2 will make turn it my review up a few notches.

Turing Test: Failed
22 May 2020
Preface: I watched this on shudder and feel there's a chance they screwed up. It was 3, perhaps 15min long, episodes that didn't seem to flow.

As a movie: it's not good. Terrible acting. You have no real idea of who the caraters are, why they are in the situation and what the objective of their mission is. And why does his Lazer blaster drip and fire in odd directions? Franz Solo sucks!

As an elongated music video: IT'S RAD! Wonderful visuals, colors, and flow to an AWESOME album by Bruit.

Perhaps there will be more episodes or they will fix what feels like bad editing/coding for the streaming service and it will be much better.

Unexpected turns and plays on tropes
11 March 2020
I like things that subvert my expectations of horror and this did it in spades. However it was taken in such a different direction that I can see why people seem to dislike it. Honestly, it's less horror and more of a musical/noir than anything, it just doesn't break out into song...which I'm super glad about. If you are looking for a trad slasher movie than skip this. If you want to see something entirely different from the genre then enjoy!

A Vigilante (2018)

It's NOT They Call Her One Eye
18 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Tho I really like that movie, A Vigilanty is a far more realistic and soul crushing. I've seen a lot of people giving it a low score because it's not an action filled revenge film but it isn't trying to be that. I don't know how it was marketed so I don't know if people were expecting Death Wish or if people are just ignorant but I'm betting on the latter. I love that I don't know if the womens in the support group are actors or actual victims of domestic abuse and so should most people who have have an IQ above 85. I am a survivor of abuse and am shocked that I've found at least one person who gave it a low rating, or at least that is how I read it, because it deals with such a heavy topic in an unflinching way. I have one complaint against it and that is a scene in which a group of men attack the main character, it's unnecessary to the movie and gave me an all men are toxic vibe. Men helped me get out of the situation I was in, a lot men have been supportive and kind, patient and understanding of my plight. Yes, the scene is something that happens in reality but felt so empty compared to the rest of the film. I also took a half point off for him not catching up with her right away as he noticed she was gone moments after she escaped. It's a glaring bit of fiction in what otherwise feels like reality. If you are ready to watch this movie then I truly help it helps and gives you the strength you need. I also apologize if I sound as if I am coming of as condescending to people who didn't like it if they just didn't care for it. Art is subjective. But dislike it because of that, not because it's not John Wick.

Day of The Little Monters
18 February 2020
I can't remember the last time I saw a movie that was as charming as it is vulgar! Lupita Nyong'o is absolutely adorable and fun, Alexander England manages to pull of being haplessly clueless without being obnoxious and Diesel La Torraca is so cute I wanted to squeeze him. It is as morbid and profane in it's humor as it is kind and lighthearted. I have a gripe with it being a horror comedy as it's not, it's a zom-com but it's a minor one. My only complaint is Josh Gad but it's more the writing of him than the acting but he doesn't really bing much to the part. It may be fairly predictable but it's infectiously (see what I did there?)sweet.

Why was this even made, I really want to know!
17 February 2020
I am a big fan of these guys, laughed for hours at them being silly together and apart. I really thought people were just being too harsh on it for whatever reason. They were right to be. I didn't laugh once in this entire movie. If I had seen it in theaters I would have walked out. If I wasn't sitting here with my friends who are high and giggling I would have turned it off. I gave it a 3 because the costumes, set design and other tech aspects; which still seems high but 1 gets thrown around way to often on here just because people didn't like the movie.

The perfect is the enemy of the good
31 December 2019
I'm halfway between those who are sniffing their own farts and examining "brilliant" and those belching out "arthouse garbage". I loosely feel like I understood what was being presented but it's a film that is overtly obscure in its narrative, see my title for more information. It was far too well shot and composed to give it a 1 star. It's ambiguous nature of shock and sexuality is too much to give it a 10. If you like artsy horror than I would recommend checking it out. If you enjoy a structured story than skip at all costs.

A Total Grease Babbon
16 December 2019
I really enjoyed the first film and was very much looking forward to the sequel but was left underwhelmed. The Coming Race is a disappointment, to say the least. It had a few fun moments but fell so flat on its face. Just watch the trailer and skip the film. Especially if you were a fan of the first one.

...ye generation of vipers
26 August 2019
I liked Eastbound and Down, I LOVE John Goodman so I was looking forward to this show. It's hard to judge it with only two episodes out but I am disappointed with it so far. Everyone of the characters are absolutely idiots save for John Goodman's character. It's entirety predictable, almost none of the jokes land, and I don't see it getting much better. The one aspect of this show that is enjoyable is their Church being represented as a ruthless corporation which I hope will take a larger part of the story going forward. If you are a big fan Green and Gordon's prior works you may enjoy it, I am going to give it a few more episodes but things don't look too good.

So much hate.
20 July 2019
I will keep this short and sweet; I like this movie. I think it had a good Halloween vibe. It's different, atmospheric and errie. It's got the charm of Season of the Witch done by the guy who did Pontypool. Perhaps it's a little to artsy and ambiguous and people seem too really hate that in a movie. T-1000 isn't great, it's lower budget can show from time to time but, overall, I really enjoyed it and it's on my Halloween marathon list. I hope it finds its audience.

Excellent Slow Burn Horror
13 June 2019
1st review here, so bare with me! This movie is so good, if you like slow burn stuff this is where it's at. The lead actress really put herself out there for the roll too. My only complaint is the use of found footage. Granted, there isn't much of it and what is there is important to the story. It's a quiet film that builds to a fury by the end.
