Vermines (2023)
Good attempt but script fails
For a creature feature this was fun The script on the other hand, not so much. Kaleb needed an arc , instead he was an annoying , entitled dick from beginning to end. The others were not much better and tighter direction was required with the conversation, to much yelling over one another.
For a first time feature director, good job but as he will be directing the next instalment of the evil dead franchise, I very much hope he is not writing the script and allows single lines of conversations to play out so the dialogue is audible. Is this the the worst movie? Non! It could have been so much better but was still a fun time on the couch.
The Lair (2022)
Dear Neil your relationship with Charlotte Kirk is producing toxic results
Actress and writer Charlotte Kirk is simply neither and this is another example of that fact. Here we have a movie that proves her obvious disdain for the genre she seems to be such a fan of. Neil Marshall is no longer a film maker to be excited about after this dismal attempt at capturing something from his past. Extras with no lines are better actors than the entire cast, not to mention the rubber suits the hybrid aliens wear. I think, like most of his audience who were once excited by Neil Marshall that we all have to recognise that he is not the man he used to be. If he is in fact in a relationship with Ms Kirk, I truly hope they are happier than I am watching this terrible film.
The Reckoning (2020)
WTF happened to Neil Marshall
Dog soldiers, the descent and now the Lair? Mr Marshall was a genre favourite when he first entered the fray with Dog Soldiers and the Descent, sadly, everything he has done since has been somewhat terrible . The Lair is poorly scripted, terribly acted and mercifully cliched. How can one who provided us with such tension and craftsmanship direct (and edit) this mess of a film, thankfully I am watching this on Amazon Prime and have not invested to much (sadly I believe Mr Marshall has also done the same) the fact that I am writing this review whilst watching this terrible mess is indicative of how terrible this film is!
That '90s Show (2023)
The Kids are not alright
As a That 70's Show fan, I find this show an abomination. How is it possible that the original producers can assemble such a non-talented ragbag of writers and young actors. EVen the legacy cast don't seem to want to be there. I have to give one star each for Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp who sadly don't have enough to do, and are no longer able to keep the reigns of this shows writing and delivery on track! I cannot imagine this will last more than the exisiting season, maybe Amazon needs to re-tool it and invest a little more into both the cast and the writing. Gone is the wit, replaced with terrible terrible everything.
Terrifier 2 (2022)
Oh my, overlong but fun!
As a fan of practical effects, kudos to the team. As talented as Mr Leon is, in crafting a solid horror piece, maybe recognise that scriptwriting and character development is not in his wheelhouse and don't subject the audience to this bloated overlong mess in a good and a bad way) Their were scenes that just dragged on and on and on, and the ending, when it finally happened was as bloated as the rest of the film. The cast were a step-up from last movie, a couple of them were clearly, actors. The gore was out of control and what I and most of us came here for. There was a particular scene on a bed with the one word "mom" which was especially well done. Adding lore and back-story was ok, but the magical elements were a little confused.
Dashcam (2021)
Could only stomach 10 minutes
After Host, I expected so much more from this creative team. What a gamble, relying on one of the most appallingly written and acted characters out to celluloid.
Shark Bait (2022)
Super trashy fun
..ok, it's not great (white) 😕 and it's not terrible either. English cast, shot in Malta for Mexico and passable Sunday afternoon entertainment. Of course, nothing new but tjeu spent their money well..
Moon Knight (2022)
..made you look...
I love reading other peoples negative reviews of what I believe is fantastic entertainment, unlike most previous
marvel properties, this may be a little more cerebral and does not spoon feed you. It's interesting that most marvel fans won't question a multiverse but do question legitimate mental disorders. Cannot wait for the next episode.
Scream (2022)
Thank you, Radio Silence,
You not only honored the legacy, but you stamped the movie with your own sense of style and humor. RIP Wes Craven, long-live Radio Silence :) Love to see what Radio Silence would do with Friday the 13th, I believe they have a unique and faithful vision :) PS, I would never of thought a scream movie would illicit emotion from me, but this one did.
Resident Alien: Family Day (2022)
Grow up Chris Sheridan
C'mon, you can now start to tell where Chris Sheridan started his "writing" career, what started as a sweet and silly show has now devolved into fart jokes, and a seemingly vast array of sexual innuendo and jokes. Now I a, not a prude but don't see Hy this is the direction the show has decided to head to. Needless to say, I cannot imagine that this will get a 3rd season, and if it does. I won't be watching.
Somebody Somewhere: Mrs. Diddles (2022)
" you mother fu$#er"
For me the penultimate episode of the series. Thank you, the writing, the performances and the oh so simple, yet powerful message. To each and everyone of you, find your peace..
Reacher: Pie (2022)
It was great until the CGI tear...
Loved every episode, for me the contractural obligation to have Reacher half naked in every episode was also a bonus. This show was just what the doctor ordered. Cerebral? Definitely not, but 100% entertaining. Not sure why they felt it necessary to add the CGI tear, what an odd choice..
Landscapers (2021)
Definitely not for those who refuse to think, or experience joy in dark humour from masterful storytellers
I have read some of the other negative reviews and although people are entitled to their own opinion, they are wrong. From Olivia to David and the quirky cast of support characters, this is one hell of a yarn. This is an end of year treat. To those if you who have open minds, are appreciate stellar performances and unique storytelling..enjoy. To those of you who have missed the mark and whose opinions differ to mine and others...😟
Midnight Mass (2021)
Ohhh the Christians are going to hate this..
Wordy, yes!! But not as preachy! The last time I saw a movie-tv series address the hypocrisy of Christianity and organised religion was Seth Rogens, sausage party. So, without spoilers, this show addresses so many issues and crosses genres. True Christians who are liberal and can accept questioning of their faith and beliefs and can acknowledge the horrors of the Old Testament could possibly enjoy this, it's one helluva long-winded ride.
The Good Fight: And the Violence Spread. (2021)
Dear Christine Baranaki
I respect your talent, but I implore you. Please, please either put an end to this debacle or go back to basics. I understand satire and when done right, it's smart, subtle and nuanced. The heavy handed approach this show takes with its liberal agenda is almost converting me to conservatism. The Marissa character is the 2021 Tina Yothers of television.m, return to the Alex P Keaton, and Mallory episodes you all did so well, when it was a really Good Fight.
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
When will directors learn that music, if used sparingly can be effective.
But when it is overused and to loud it ruins atmosphere, not creates. Oh yes, also not great.
The Good Fight: And the Court Had a Clerk... (2021)
If I was a liberal Democrat, this episode would make me a gun toting republican
...sadly I feel this sometimes excellent show is coming to an end. With this loss in key characters it seems to have lost its direction. Elevating the Marisa Gold character, a mistake. Those condescending good fight shorts, a mistake and season 5, the end.
