The Black Godfather (2019)
Brilliant.
As far as documentaries go, this is simply a gem. Inspiring, entertaining, funny, thoughtful and very well made. It shines light on a real positive side of Hollywood and the music business that is rarely talked about... people connecting people, not for financial gain, but for art.
This film has some excellent interviews with some of the most influential figures of the 20th and 21st century. I doubt that Reggie (the director) considers him a national treasure... but he is.
I recommend this documentary to everyone on earth.
Exit Strategy (2019)
Tribeca
I saw this great short at Tribeca. I loved it! A really talented cast, an ending you don't see coming and lots of fun. Travis is a great story teller and an excellent editor. I just saw that it is available on short of the weeks youtube channel now!
Cut! (2014)
Really awesome movie
I just saw this tonight at a little theater in Hollywood. Was not sure what to expect although I did see the trailer. This movie was really good... some really scary stuff at times, I jumped a few times for sure. The acting is solid and the thing looks really good. So, who ever shot it did a fantastic job. It sets up pretty nicely for a sequel, so hopefully we see that one day.
Just a little side note... after watching the movie, I have been watching over my shoulder a little more than normal.
Great storytelling...
Worth a watch.
Return to Zero (2014)
Wonderful performances... excellent storytelling.
Minnie Driver's performance in this film is one of the most beautiful performances I have ever seen. Andrea Anders was perfect too. This movie is filled with real moments. Many of those moments are hard to imagine for those not touched by losing a baby and are very hard to watch for those who have. Nothing is fake... nothing is "hollywood." This is some of the best storytelling I have ever seen. As the credits rolled... I sat there feeling something... I am not sure what. It was not a good feeling... or a bad feeling... I just 'felt' something very strongly. I am not sure how to describe it... but I know for a fact that no film has ever left me feeling like that before.
I'm Reed Fish (2006)
A really great movie...
I don't know how anyone could give this movie less than 8 stars. I watched it via streaming netflix and found the movie to be quite wonderful. This was not a big budget movie... but I could not tell. The art design, camera work, story telling and acting were all top notch.
It captured the feel of what it is like to live in a small town. What is important... etc. This movie is full of heart. It is like a magic trick when filmmakers can pull this kind of thing off. I wish more movies were made with this much attention to detail.
I am a fan... and cant wait for more from this director.
Now... go watch it on netflix!
