Whacked! (2011)
Remarkable Last Scene
In New York City, people strangely fall down in the street one after another. Sirens are ringing over the city, and people don't know what's happening and panic. We audience also wonder what's happening and take a lot of guesses. The next scene is in a golf course. People enjoy playing a golf. However, I couldn't make the connection between the accident and the golf scene. A man puts a large amount of golf balls in the back of the cart and finishes his work. After that, he finds the suitable place where nobody interrupts him from playing a golf. At the end of this film, all things are unraveled clearly. We can't expect how this film is going on and the trick is covered up until the ending, which makes it very interesting and people excited and thrilled. This film is so amazing.
The Imitation Game (2014)
Amazing
I cannot believe that this film is based on a true story. I was about to forget that Alan Turing is a real person while watching because this story is so unbelievable. Without doubt, he had a big influence on history and contributed to this world. This film is about a genius man who encloses the code during world warⅡ. Cumberbatch plays Alan's suffering and his personality that is poor to express his emotion and communicate with others successfully. He achieves amazing things for his short life in accompanies with his secret, homosexual. His life is strongly impressive for me. Especially, the ending is moving and made me cry. I think little people know about him and I suppose that there are a lot of people who is not known though they contributed to the world. One of roles of films is that those who is not known for people is paid attentions from audience through seeing a film.
Fait d'hiver (2001)
Surprising and Entertaining!
This short film is so interesting and surprising. In a night, a man is annoyed with a traffic jam, and then he is about to call home. A girl says her mother stays with an uncle Tom, who he doesn't know. As a scene goes, this film builds a tension and is in a control of our feeling. This film makes me thrilled. I'm hooked from the beginning to the end. In the end, the man leads a tragedy. It is fun to imagine that how the man would feel and what he would take an action after that. I think that it is a perfect ending.
Split (2016)
Great Thriller Film!!!
This film is so thrilling and terrifying. One day, a man who has 23 personalities kidnaps three younger girls and locks up in a room. The remarkable point is that his next personality are about to wake up, which makes me astonished because it is beyond our expectation. Other than that, James McAvoy's performance is outstanding, and each personality is completely different and insane. I was glued to the screen through it. Actually, Kevin was abused by his mother as a kid, which causes to have split personalities. I suppose his 23 personalities protects himself and puts a value on his existence by himself. About it, I had sympathy for it and at the same time, I felt his madness. This film is overwhelming.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Masterpiece
This film is so amazing. This is about a man called Andy who is found the guilty of the murder of his wife and her lover and sentenced to a prison. He struggles to get through hardship. He is so smart that he becomes an outstanding person. First of all, this film is narrated by the second lead character, Red, which makes the audiences see Andy from Red's view unconsciously. His smartness leads to an incredible ending. Each scenes are dropped advance hints, and in the end, each pieces are put together. His smartness blew me away. This film makes us think about what the life is. The last scene is incredibly beautiful. This film is definitely one of masterpieces.
The Notebook (2004)
Heartwarming and Beautiful
This film is touching. Actually, I don't like love stories, but this film is so great that I was blown away. In the beginning, this film goes on by reading a story for a woman. The story itself is a rich girl and a normal guy who fall in love with each other like Romeo and Juliet story. Her parents are against their marriage, however their true love is the most moving part of this film. Noah loves Alie from the bottom of his heart so that he builds a house for her and writes 365 letters. The story is a typical love story, but I was attracted by the pure love between them. We don't know whether Alie chooses Noah or her lover until the final scene, and the development of the story is more interesting than normal love stories. That plot is one of points to make this typical love story elaborated. Other than that, scenery in this film are so beautiful. The ending is so dramatic and wonderful.
Predestination (2014)
The Most Brilliant Movie Ever
This is the best film I've ever seen. I was completely hooked by this amazing plot. I couldn't stop to be thrilled through this film. In the beginning, it is a little bit hard to connect between scenes, but all of them are connected toward the unexpected ending. A man works at a bar, and another man comes to the bar and starts to talk his incredible past. When he begins to talk, he says to him, 'When I was a little girl.
'. In that moment, I thought it must be interesting. His past story is beyond our imagination, and the development of the story is amazing. However, his past story is not the main story of this film but just the one step toward the incredible ending. Time traveling and sci-fi are connected cleverly and advance hints are dropped in some scenes, which are a bewildering and twisted structure. Meanwhile, I was moved and attracted by the performance of Sarah Snook who stars a man character and a woman one. When I understood the whole structure, my mind was blown away. After watching, I basked in the afterglow of this film. I can't find words to describe the greatness of this film.
Psycho (1960)
Horror and scary film
This film is thrilling and shocking. In the beginning, I guessed that this is about money because money is a familiar theme, but this film is about the relationship between a man and his mother. Marion drops by a motel where Norman operates on the way to steal money and see Sam, her lover. And then, the story develops unexpectedly. The way Norman speaks and his odd collection of stuffed birds make me feel weird and thrilling, after that strange murders happen repeatedly, but I couldn't imagine who causes. Especially, the background music is effective for this film. Thanks to BGM and camera works, this film successfully builds scary and tension. Norman has an excessive attachment on his mother and looks eccentric. This film relates to complicated mental disease and criminal emotion. That setting is elaborated and interesting. He is so psychotic that this film scares me. I was also surprised and impressed by the ending.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)
Overwhelming
I've never seen this overwhelming story. I was intrigued by the setting of Benjamine Button who grows young. He gets through hardship which makes him strong and attractive, and falls love with a woman. As he gets young, his life is full of curious and unusual experiences which makes him educated and clever. I cannot expect what he is going to take next action and make a decision in hard situations, so this film hooked me until the ending and controlled my emotion. I think the filmmaker focuses on the point that most people are afraid of getting old. The younger he becomes, the older people around him become, and he sees death of his close friends. If I were him, I might not stand and accept myself because I'm scared of loneliness. This film makes me think about the beauty of getting old. Through his whole life in this film, we can see the greatness and beauty of life. This film is so amazing.
Good Will Hunting (1997)
I was extremely moved.
I was extraordinarily moved by this film. This film is about a boy, Will, who is a genius about mathematics. He is intelligent, but he is poor at the relationship with others. That is the part we can have sympathy for. Each character has their own problems. This film successfully describes human touch, which attracts audiences. This film shows us the human relationship of friends, lover and human. There are a lot of good phrases in this film. One of my favorite phrase is 'The question is whether or not you are perfect for each other.', which is impressive for me because it is the essence for love between men and women and friends. As we see the growth of characters, our horizon for our life widens. This film brings a lot of helpful tips for life into my value. Besides, 'Will' which is used in title and the name of the lead character includes multiple meanings, so the title is the best for this film. This film is the best ever.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
A moment for brilliance
Recently, there are films which shows culture and society at that time. This film is one of the greatest work which shows us the culture of the time. This film is about 1920s society, when World WarⅠwas finished and American economy was developed significantly. People in 1920s lived in showy and costly styles. Furthermore, this age is evaluated as 'the liberation age'. However, in fact, there were a lot of people who didn't benefit from the thriving economics. The story of this film tells us not only positive aspects of 'Jazz age' but also dark sides of 'lost generation'. 'Jazz Age' only lasts for a time and people had a brief thriving time. This film successfully describes a moment for brilliance at that time. I like the transient beauty of this age. I was amazed by gorgeous costumes and ornaments. Meanwhile, I was attracted by the beauty of Carey Mulligan. I enjoyed this film visually and emotionally.
Still Alice (2014)
Beauty and Love
This is a beautiful film. I was blown away by emotional performances of the actresses. Alice has had a nice and happy life before she gets Alzheimer, which rips everything that she has acquired through her life from her. The disease leads to her uncomfortable life, and she is not able to be like her. That is the thing we are the most afraid of. I t is important for us to live by ourselves independently and like our selves. Alice gets to have a weak recognition about who she is and people around her, which makes her suffer from it. However, the most stunning scene is the warm support from her family in this hard situation. No matter how worse Alice's condition is getting, they always stay with her. I was impressed with her family. Besides, this film uses a beautiful representation of a butterfly as a short life, which reminds us of a short life as same as Alice. Meanwhile, the camera work is reflected by Alice's condition. As she got worse, the monitor gets vague. We can see things as same as Alice. The last scene also moved my heart.
The Mass of Men (2012)
Serious problem of employment
I was thrilled and scared of the story from the beginning to the end. This film shows us serious problem of employment and the reality of the time in U.K. The first scene is the video of security camera, which has a big role for this film. A man who is unemployed goes to a job center, but he can't receive the help because he didn't show up on time. When I found the connection between the first scene and this film in the middle of this film, I was scared of it from halfway. I think this title expresses that a lot of men are at a loss of employment at that time and have same frustration and complaints about the system. The mass of discontent drives them carazy. In this film, I felt bitter and strong anger and hatred toward the society.
Head Over Heels (2012)
Nice ending
This is a warm-hearted story. A wife and a husband live upside down in the strange house which is flying in the sky. Living separately in the floor and on the ceiling is a great idea because they don't see each other face to face though they live in the same house. I wonder how this house is constructed and flies and why the filmmaker wants to make this film. This film has no dialogue, but it is easy to understand visually. My favorite scene is the ending because I found it interesting that a wife attaches some shoes on the ceiling to see her husband. In this film, a ballet shoes is a key to make a bond with them.
Tootsie (1982)
Brilliant comedy
This is one of the most brilliant American comedy ever. Through the film, it is a good-tempo to catch the story and full of wit. Dustin Hoffman stars as Michael Dorsey and disguises himself as a middle-aged woman. One of the remarkable points in the film is that Dustin Hoffman succeeds in playing the role of a woman. His performance is so brilliant and attractive that it seems like another actor stars as Dorothy Michaels. Dorothy is a strong-minded and brisk woman. The personality is characteristic and impressive with the audience. I think this original and eccentric personality was required for woman at this age. In this film, at first, he has a purpose to need a job, but in the end, he falls in love with Julie who struggles to handle both her career and raising her baby. I think Mike is fascinated with her hard attitude. I want to watch this film over and over again. No matter how many times, I wouldn't get bored.
Porcelain Unicorn (2010)
Good Story
I was moved by this film in spite of it only three minutes long. I found it great that such a short movie makes a film very interesting and people got moved. This story is about a German boy and a Jewish girl. After he saved her as a kid, he comes over to her house many decades later. Everyone might be touched with this last scene. He is so gentle and faithful. This film has little dialogue, however, so it is not difficult to catch the story. The unicorn bonds their hearts together. I think 'love' is the theme of this film as well as the representation of the unicorn. Besides, this film encourages us to overcome the race barrier.
Fish Out of Water (2005)
Bright way
I guessed this movie was about fish. However, actually, it's not a fish story but a human one. One day, a man commuted by rowing across the river because he hated the jammed traffic road. Though he had a life- style which is not interrupted by anybody, the way he enjoyed was destroyed by something or someone
.The audience likes him, because there are a lot of selfish people in a train and towns. We all are tired of daily stressful commuting and would have the same feeling as him. I like his bright idea that no one could think up. This movie has no dialog. I think it is enough to enjoy this movie because we can enjoy the facial expression of the characters. I didn't understand the meaning of this title in the beginning, but in the end, I could get it. At the same time, I thought of the proverb, 'fish out of water' which means the person who is uncomfortable. I don't know this connection between the content and this proverb.
Three Days in Kamakura (2012)
good story
This film is a fiction, but I feel like real. Because it sometimes happens that a child is suddenly left by his/her parents because of some accidents, disasters or family problems. The mean behavior of neighbors is also a usual problem in our daily life. Therefore, we can feel familiar with this film. Kamakura is a good place for the set of this film. Kamakura is less crowded than urban cities like Tokyo, so most people prefer it. The wife and the husband is an international marriage. Jay, the sub-lead character is an international child. It is a remarkable point. I think this event which happened unexpectedly among the wife and husband has made their relationship better and closer. This story is heart-warming as well as sad.
Father and Daughter (2000)
This is a good story!!
I felt sad after I watched this movie. One day, a father and his daughter go cycling along the street. The father leave her, row across the river and don't come back forever. The father and his daughter looked a good parent and child. I don't know the reason why the father left his daughter despite her youth. Since then, she had tried to find out her father hard at the same place till she died. No matter how bad the weather was, she went out to find and meet her father again with her bicycle. I think the way she is sorrowful is described by some screen effects. One of them is this movie has no dialogue. Instead, the background music which is a depressing melody with mainly piano through this movie tells us the sad story, which makes me feel melancholy. Besides that, this movie is almost black and white, simple, thin touches and shadow pictures. It can be said that these screen effect have the big role for making the audiences feel sad.
