Casey Anthony: Where the Truth Lies (2022)
Disgusting
I truly do not understand the purpose of this show. They say it was to give her a chance to tell her story but nothing she said was challenged. She never really answered the first and most important question. Why wait 31 days before telling the police her daughter was missing? Why wait until her mother called the police in a panic to confirm this? Then why did she do nothing to help with the investigation? Partying, getting tattoos. Nothing like a mother looking for her missing daughter would do. As the actual evidence is presented, there leaves very little doubt as to the truth. I also wonder what her payday from NBC was for this.
There was a much better, much more objective documentary done 5 years ago. I have only watched episode 1 and don't know if I will watch the other two just out of curiosity.
Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers: Episode #1.4 (2022)
I lived through it
As a Laker season ticket holder from Magic's rookie year this episode truly hit me in the gut. From Kareem's retirement to Magic's announcement, it brought back memories of exactly where I was for every moment. Very emotional at the time and all of the same emotions came back tonight. Perfectly paced and well put together. The interviews with all of Magic's teammates were truly magical moments. Hearing of Dr. Buss' breaking down and then today's Magic breaking down when talking about Dr. Buss was the perfect capper. Bravo. Looking forward to where this series takes us the rest of the way, but can't imagine episode coming close to this one.
Dancing with Myself (2022)
This is a stretch
I'll stretch my review and give it a charitable 1. The audience voting makes no sense and has become so predictable. Undeserving older contestants and kids get voted in and saved just for being there at the expense of far superior dancers. Stretched to a 1 because every once in a while there is a good dancer.
Carole King & James Taylor: Just Call Out My Name (2022)
Reliving great music
Missed the original Troubedour shows, but had seen them solo many times each. When I heard they were planning a tour 40 years later I jumped right on it. Was lucky enough to see them at the Hollywood Bowl. So of course when I heard this Doc was coming out I couldn't wait to see it. I was not disappointed. A great representation of two of the greatest. Loved how they edited some of the original performances into the new ones. Outstanding doucumentary.
(And if they tour again, I'll be there)
Pam & Tommy: Uncle Jim and Aunt Susie in Duluth (2022)
Thought it was getting better....nope
After the 2 episodes I thought this disaster was moving in the right direction. I was very wrong. Hard to tell which is worse, the acting or the grade school quality editing. Looks like it was made for commercial television with fades to black coming at odd moments. I'll probably still watch as it's almost at the end, but it's just plain awful.
Pam & Tommy: Jane Fonda (2022)
Some actual plot
For the first time, this episode actually had some plot advancements. But that's it. The two lead actors would rate less than zero. Both horrible. Even the drum sequence was so out of sync it looked like a badly dubbed foreign film. Seth Rogen does a good job and Andrew Clay was well cast, and that's the best I can say. I will keep watching though because it's so bad I am getting a kick out of it.
Pam & Tommy: I Love You, Tommy (2022)
Getting worse
Didn't think anything could be worse than the first episode, but I was wrong. Acting was less than amateurish. Nothing more to say. Horrible. Will sweep the Razzies.
Pam & Tommy: Drilling and Pounding (2022)
God Awful
Was ready to turn it off before the opening credits when I saw the cartoon that was supposed to be Jay Leno and whoever was playing Pam was awful. Figured I'd watch anyway. Didn't improve much, but that got me to raise my score from a 0 to a 3
Not many films where you would say Seth Rogen was the best actor.
I will check out the next episode but not holding out a lot of hope.
Ray Donovan: The Movie (2022)
Slooooow
If this moved any slower the picture would have frozen on my tv. After the last couple of season really tailed off in quality I was happy to see they planned to do a movie to tie everything up. From the beginning with all the flashbacks, this was a very disjointed slow moving disappointment. I watched every episode and even with that had a hard time putting everything together. There was some finality brought and that's the only reason it went from a 3 to a 4 for me.
Zola (2020)
WTF
There are no words to describe how awful this thing was. I don't even dare call it a movie. I'm ashamed of myself for actually sitting through the whole thing. I just kept waiting for one interesting or funny sorry sexy thing to happen. Nope!
Dopesick: Black Box Warning (2021)
Best show of the season
Sure fire Emmys for Michael Keaton and Kaitlyn Dever. A frightening story. Glad to see someone point the finger at big pharma. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 10+ is sometimes the time jumps can get a little confusing. Sorry it is coming to an end while at the same time can't wait for the finaly.
The Celebrity Dating Game (2021)
Embarrassing
Obviously with the whole premise of the show being what it is, I wasn't' expecting an Emmy worthy show, but this is just embarrassing. I love Zoey, and I don;t know what they did to convince her to do this. I hope it goes away soon so it doesn't drag her down with it. Obviously not real dates of course, but not even any fun. And finally, Michael Bolton?
Dark Places, Deadly Illusions (2021)
WTF
I was reading some of the reviews and thought that nothing could be as bad as they were saying. I was wrong. Completely disjointed. Poorly written. Poorly acted. Just not thought out. I think I know what they were trying to say, but they failed miserably. Thought maybe there would be some good sex, but even that never materialized. All in all, an hour and 45 minutes of my life gone.
The Rookie: True Crime (2021)
Huh?
Dropping this episode in the middle of season 3 makes absolutely no sense. Has nothing to do with anything the series is about. It takes me back to the days of "a very special episode" except there is nothing special about this. It seems as if they lost the episode that was supposed to be in this time slot so just put something together in 10 minutes. An hour of my life lost.
Euphoria: Fuck Anyone Who's Not a Sea Blob (2021)
Unbelievable
These two episodes are what television always should have been about. Incredibly well written and acted. This is classic television.
The Prom (2020)
Just what we needed this year
People have to understand this was just what it was supposed to be. A good feeling musical. Good music and excellent performances. JoAn Pullman is going to be a star. This was not made to be an academy award winning drama. It is what it was meant to be and it was wonderful.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Unfortunately couldn't rate lower than 0
Awful is too kind. Acting, script, special effects all very amateurish. Tried to combine ghostbusters, raiders of the lost arc, willie wonk and several others and destroyed the best parts of all of them. What a total and complete disappointment.
Euphoria: Trouble Don't Last Always (2020)
An Emmy was won here
What a great concept for this episode. Certainly made the most out of the terrible situation we find ourselves in this year. Colman Domingo just won himself an Emmy. A mesmerizing hour of work by him on this piece.
