Gen V (2023)
One of the best shows I've seen all year
I don't get the negative reviews. Characters are unique, engaging and sympathetic, which is rare. Contrary to The Boys, our protagonists are young supes who are being primed and manipulated by the people they supposed to look up to for guidance. The main fokus might be the same, but our view point is being shifted and we see the rough world of trying to be the most valued product for the very people who want to control and make a fortune off of you. Combined with fleshed out background stories, believable relationships and plenty of easter eggs.
I have enjoyed every episode and can't wait for season 2.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
CGI SNOOZE FEST
Has absolutely nothing in common in the sense of style, storytelling or scare factor. 3 words: CGI snooze fest.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
This is amazingly bad
I checked to see if the director has had any experience before this movie bc this piece of garbage would get you an F at college. And get me right: Chris Rock is not to blame here. The direction and editing, which are almost as atrocious as the bland script, are however to blame.
Last Shift (2014)
Does not stick with you.
I watched this movie twice. Why? Because I completely forgot that I have already seen it. I cannot tell you what is going on. The acting is good, the setting is creepy and relatable, it has good scares and a good premise. Yet it does not work. When stuff starts to go down, you get really excited and then my brain just shut off. It took me 40 minutes to realize that I've seen this movie before, which is so weird- how did I forget about this, this is good, I thought for a brief moment...
No, no it's not.
Brightburn (2019)
pointless
After the end credits, I thought to myself: that was pretty good. And not even 5 minutes later I could barely remember the characters, the plot or what I liked about it. It just was what it was- there's no attachment to any character for the audience, basically no build- up and there's no point to any of it.
Loved the idea, cinematography was good, actors were solid, the story had potential, it just never went anywhere. so yeah. blah
Bloodsucking Bastards (2015)
Great movie! Don't let the small budget fool you
It's very obvious that they had 0 budget. But honestly, this is such a fun, great movie!!! The actors are all great, pacing is good and the story is actually solid. I don't even know what to say- it just works. screw the small budget, it's hilarious. Watch and enjoy
The Morning Show: The Interview (2019)
trigger warning for this episode
I feel obligated to post a trigger warning.
it is a great show, a great episode, one of the best season finales i have seen in years!
but
please be aware that things heat up and some real consequences catch up to the characters. i felt fine and engaged this whole season, but this episode triggered something and for those who know, just know what i mean. please be extra aware and look out for yourself.
House of Wax (2005)
Really good- so much better than most at the time
It's 2020 and I watched house of wax for the first time, cause you know- quarantine and nothing better to do. I expected a really bad, baaaad movie. I mean, no shade, but Paris freaking Hilton is in it. But wow, I am in awe! Let's get the negative out of the way real quick: half of the cast, including Jared Padalecki's character, have very inconstistant behaviors. He goes from the good boyfriend stereotype to total douche who's snooping and messing around real quick. Second point: even if Paris was better than I thought, the strip tease was not just unnecessary but also cringy. I also would have lead a good life going forward without all the boob close ups, but hey.
Now on to the positive: the other half of the characters were very smart, they fought logically and within their capabilities! The bad guy(s) we're also not super human, and nobody 'forgot' that they were injured heavily a scene ago. I appreciate that! The gore, violence and all things wax were fantastic!!! And I mean fantastic! It was so grounded and realistic that I wanted to sympathy vomit at least once... Not to mention the symbolism and similarities in story telling. I haven't watched a horror movie which I liked this much in ages!!!
I Am Legend (2007)
Loved the movie, hated the ending!
They built up a very convincing feel of desperation and hopelessness. The lone survivor tries so hard to move forward and keep his humanity, until it all changes. I cried and I was so invested in his story... until the ending came along.
The changed ending, I might add!
Not re- watchable is my personal, bad rating for a film.
It still earns points by the haunting performance and the philosophical thoughts that still stick with me, but once again enjoying, I can not!
Mirrors (2008)
Scarred me for years
I watched it in theatres when it first came out and it effects me until this day! I couldn't turn off the lights for 3 weeks and even now I can't walk into a dark room with mirrors uncovered!
I know, it probably won't affect other people like this, but mirrors have always been creepy to me. Every time I looked away and back at a mirror I was afraid of what might be staring back at me. This movie is by no means a master piece, I am not even sure, it makes sense, but it worked on me! The effects were decent, the pacing, jump scares and the background story were efficient enough to make even my friends jumpy. Now, 10 years later I feel strong enough to watch other horror movies again, but I am not sure if I will ever have the balls to re- watch it or any other movie with a mirror as it's core source of scares...
