Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Great action with at times jawdroppingly insulting script.
First of all the good things, which are those that everyone mentions. Some of the best action scenes in the cinema ever. It's obviously also good to see the whole team back together, even though they don't get as much screen time as some of us would like.
However. Some scenes (and the whole premise for that matter) are just straight up ridiculous. The scenes which probably should shock the audience you can see coming from a mile away (Ilsa - honestly the most nonsensical close quarters fight scene ever choreographed, I wanted to be screaming. The Director of National Intelligence who's literally begging to be killed by orchestrating a proposition of an alliance to the one party that has no interest in being allied, people routinely forgetting that guns exist). Finally the whole objective of the baddie could be smed up to "why though?". The AI could just nuke Sevastopol and be unstoppable. Anyway, most of the action was decent. Plot wise the second worst MI.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: The Testi-Roastial (2023)
Oh Palladinos, you brilliant basterds.
This season with its future flashes has been a little odd thus far, since waiting to unravel the puzzle is taking some time. This week however was something special. When I realized that likely the entire period is happening in the future, I was sceptical at first. But it turned out to be one of the sweetest and most thought out episodes of the entire show.
There has been a lot of Marvelous times during this show when I laughed, but not that many when I was deeply touched by something. However interactions of Midge and Suzie in this episode, as scarce as they may be, resonated with me thunderously. And I'm not ashamed to say that at the end I actually burst into tears.
Brilliant.
Veronica Mars: Weapons of Class Destruction (2005)
What the actual
SO. CRINGE.
From the bomb threat part to the fact that suddenly Logan and V aren't mortal enemies. She makes a habit throughout the series of pointing out how she doesn't forgive and then this. Compared to them getting cuddly even the bomb plot seems more credible.
Ridiculous, I don't know if the writers felt like they need to end the season with a romance subplot of two main characters and didn't have time in the rest of the episodes to figure out some slower and more natural way to get into that, but this was just lame. Somehow also Logan manages to materialize at the motel despite being somewhere completely elsewhere and having no idea where he should go.
God this was lame.
The Expanse: Winnipesaukee (2021)
Filler? No way.
Absolutely disagree with the opinion that the last two episodes were nothing but fillers. Ships blowing up and asteroids crippling planets isn't all that makes an episode great. And it's definitely not like nothing happened. Except for Belters speaking rather slowly and with surprising amount of words, everything that happened in this episode had a reason and place in the plot. From Naomi continuing her struggle, Drummers loyalties, Avasarala's values and Clarissa's morals and influence on Amos.
The cliffhangers are going to kill me though, I really wish I waited till the entire season is out. And I assume the worst cliffhanger is coming next week.
