Nope (2022)
Appropriate title.
Nothing to see here. Move along, move along.
Lots of pre-release hype leads to a bag full of nuthun'. As most of the other reviewers have also mentioned, it's overly long.
All the decent writers must have gone on extended holiday.

The Day the Music Died (2022)
Terrific song, meh documentary.
Editing: Rehashing the same chunks of interview video and audio became annoying rather quickly.
Time: Lasted about half an hour more than necessary.
Content: Spent an inordinate amount of time reviewing the history of the plane crash, and having other musicians praising & covering McLean's work..
Listened to the song hundreds of times during my youth, and it is still an amazing tune, but this documentary just felt contrived and shallow.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Horror / Comedy / Dumb & Dumber
Again, the jellied brains at corporate Hollywood approved the production of a garbage story that goes nowhere and does nothing. Couldn't feel any empathy with any of the characters. Storyline seemed a jumbled mess of one-liners. MARVEL should be ashamed for their collaboration and participation in this.
Spencer (2021)
Bummed out royals.
Went in to this movie spoiler-free, thinking there was going to be a clear vision of the life of Diana. Didn't get that, at all. What I got was a depressing case of nausea.
The opening disclaimer that this film is "a fable based on true events" should have been the last scene I watched. Unfortunately, I stuck with it, hoping it would improve. It doesn't...
Save yourself some internal angst (and money) by passing on this one.
Dune (2021)
Technically acceptable, but
It seemed that the viewer was getting an overview, rather than a feature film. Many times during the screening I thought to myself "I can follow what's going on here because I already know the story." Moviegoers who are not familiar with all the characters & their backstories may be left asking themselves "What was THAT all about?" Technically, the special effects, cinematography, music score and casting were acceptable.
My Salinger Year (2020)
Trying way too hard.
Remember "The Devil Wears Prada"? This film tries very hard to do that story again. Swap out the world of Haute couture fashion for that of NYC book publishing, drop some big names from the world of literary history, add Ms. Weaver for the movie marquis. Stir well, and it still falls a bit flat.
The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021)
Lost me in the first 10 minutes.
I'm pretty good about giving films a fair shake. Sat through, and mostly enjoyed, my share of B (and C) movies that others would've left. This, however, was like watching a bunch of toddlers after consuming way too much chocolate. Screaming, shrieking, flailing, all backed by a blaring music score. It was actually painful. Too bad.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Where's the beef?
Technically acceptable, with visually stunning effects and lots of fast paced violence.
But where is the story? What about getting the viewers to give one small tinker's damn about any of the characters? Sorry, but none of that happened for me. Gave it an honest try, but after 90 minutes, I gave up. Too bad for DC.
The Other Side of the Wind (2018)
What a mess!
Big names, big hype, bad execution. This was probably one of the worst films I've tried to watch. It's convoluted mess that just doesn't work. Too much "hand held" camera work. Unnecessary and gratuitous sex scenes. We spent an hour and a half hoping this film would go somewhere...... anywhere. Don't believe all the high scoring reviews. This film should've stayed in the can.
Big Little Lies (2017)
Couldn't stomach any more.
With all the raves this is getting, we tried gave it a fair shot. Three episodes in, we called a halt to the masochism. Sorry, no bueno. Arrogant, entitled, upper crust, California whiners playing out their daily angst just doesn't constitute "entertainment" for us.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Not marvel's best effort.
We didn't find Tom believable as Peter Parker/Spidey. RDJ's snarky Tony Stark/Iron Man was spot-on. Michael Keaton was a reasonable casting choice for Vulture. Effects and action was par for Marvel. It's a reboot of the Spider-man story, with the expected trials of a young man trying to balance high school and superhero. However, somewhere in the middle of the film, it felt like the reins were handed over to Nickelodeon. The storytelling lost focus. Maybe Marvel is trying to generate a larger audience by pandering to the 10 to 14 year-old age group. It won't put us off Marvel's films, but it certainly wasn't one of their best efforts.
