See How They Run (2022)
Really fun whodunit with a lot of play references
A film filled with great actors, lovely cinematography and music etc. I think the main reason people are underscoring it is that they don't understand the myriad references to the play itself and the many meta moments within the film. The lines are witty and are easy to miss. Yes some of the plot points are slightly simplistic but the point is to entertain, not to reinvent the genre. I thought it was a nice addition to the play, so if you've had the luck of watching the original, I'm sure you'll enjoy this film. Of course it also stands by itself and can be enjoyed by all the family, as the peril is only mild!
Polar (2019)
Overproduced nastiness with a bad attitude to women
Started this film thinking it would be a fun action film. Not at all. Firstly, none of the characters are likeable in the least, not even the main one. Every woman is treated as a sex object in a completely distasteful way and for no comprehensible reason. The violence is incredibly gratuitous and the plot skips around as if looking for more people to enact torture on. The graphics are clearly trying to recreate a Guy Ritchie movie, but are just quite annoying after about 10 minutes, and not even that relevant. The music is alright; probably the only inoffensive thing about this film. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone and it's a shame Mads Mikkelsen is involved in this frankly.
