Hetalia: Axis Powers (2009–2016)
9/10
Weird and idiotic, but amusing in every way...
25 December 2019
I know this review may be a little late, but I had to do it. This anime falls along the line of "so stupid it's good". I realize this anime gets a lot of of hate (and I can see why), but I had no problem with it. The accents in the English dub are hilarious. There's also a few off-color jokes scattered around in the dub, but that does not bother me as much.

I am also a fan of anime that's influenced by military/warfare so that makes it all the more enjoyable to me.

Moominvalley (2019– )

Everything a good cartoon should be
25 December 2019
I first want to confess, the Moomins were sadly not part of my childhood. I did not know of their existence until I was 17 believe it or not. (I am 21. By the way) At the time, I was not a fan, because it did not really hold any interest in me. Finally for my 21st B-day, I got a couple of the original comics, and I was actually amused. I thought, "Okay, this is actually pretty funny." So, I did happen to know of the anime adaptions, except it was not that much, appeal to me, considering my taste in anime. Like at this time, I'm into anime shows like, "Hetalia: Axis Powers" and what not. The anime adaptions of "Moomin", I felt, were to outdated for my liking. So, when I found the 2019 cg series "Moominvalley", (which by the way is a Finnish-British production) I decided to check it out. I'll tell you right now, I was impressed. The animation is gorgeous, and the voice acting, it's amazing. I really like the fact they use big-name actors and actresses. I saw that the character Sniff, was voiced by Warwick Davis. (Professor Flitwick from Harry Potter) That to me, is so cool.

What I also love, is how empowering this cartoon feels. It empowers in so many ways. Tove Jansson, had a feminist background to her, from what I have read. She challenged stereotypes and assumptions of how women should be. Her female characters make this very clear. Specifically Moominmamma, Little My, and even Snorkmaiden. I just simply enjoyed Little My's character in this cartoon. She is probably one of the most relatable female characters in animation. She's so tough, fearless, and lovable.

I also, love how there's LGBT undertones. Tove Jansson also had an LGBT background as well. Snufkin, appears to be giving the signs of being gay, it's just never clarified.

I also, really love the humor. This is my favorite joke, when Moominpappa chops his hat in half with an axe:

Moominmamma: Did you chop the wood dear?

Moominpappa: No, just my hat.

Moominmamma: Naturally.

I find that very funny for some reason, though I don't exactly understand what Moominmamma meant by "naturally".

Overall, I think this series is everything a good cartoon should be. A great story, like able characters, beautiful animation, good humor, and top-notch voice acting. I applaud Gutsy Animations for their work on this cartoon, and I give much respect and honor to Tove Jansson for her creations.

Codename: Kids Next Door (2002–2008)
Nope.

If there's anything a cartoon should not be, it's this. Along with The Loud House (ugh). I saw snippets of it, and well what can I say,it is crap. I love cartoons, but I prefer the ones where children actually have more to their personalities and actually act more wisely. Heck, they make the characters in South Park(an actual favorite of mine) look superior. I'll go with classic shows like Disney's Recess( quite clever), Arthur(grew up with that). At least those shows don't have kids treating adults like bad guys all the time.

Then there's Adventure Time, Regular Show, Steven Universe, and We Bare Bears. Those are 4 of CN's finest cartoons of the the 2010's!

This one's off the list!

The Loud House (2014– )

Absolutely not!

This show in no way deserves the praise it's getting. It's unfunny, poorly drawn and animated, cheesy, bland, crass, stereotypical etc. The list could go on.

A good amount of characters are painfully stereotyped, and others just have almost no personality at all. They're unrealistically trying to fit all these stereotypes through 11 main characters. A good show needs to have limits on the amount of main characters it has. Like 2 or 4 character limit.

The animation doesn't match the art style. Period.

The humor is very lame and cringe-inducing.

Not to mention there's a lot of television shows, movies, and books this show could have (and seemingly did) ripped-off. The Brady Bunch should be a notable example. The plot line and genre are over-used and uncreative with each step.

I'd take a classic and nostalgic kid's show like Arthur. Unlike Chris Savino (Who has been accused more than several times of sexual misconduct.) Marc Brown is a lively and creative children's literature legend, who is not (and never will be) forgotten. Arthur is not all perfect either, but at least it is sophisticated and smart enough for a child's viewing.

Sadly, kids from this day and age will never know what a good cartoon really was back then.

Mother didn't want to watch anymore after about 15 minutes.....
15 January 2018
My mother watched some of this with me and she made me turn it off about 15 minutes in, because it just was too disturbing and sad to her. That was about all she could take. I could not agree more, although she could handle "Jesus Camp". What has become of humanity?
