Over hyped rubbish
16 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm 40 and I've just watched this for the first time. It's just awful & I can only believe that the reviews here must be paid.

Bad script, terrible acting, awful casting, rubbish cinematography, terrible lighting, bad direction, I could go on. Even the puppetry is awful, compare it to things that have come before it and it's really badly done. There's literally no suspense at all, the fact the doll is possessed is given away straight away and even that was done badly. Usually, when I don't like a film I can at least find a redeemable quality, not for this one. Even the music is a mess.

The idea for the film is great but God knows how they ever made it a franchise. Worst "horror" I've ever seen, without doubt!!

Just awful. So bad on so many levels.
24 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Terrible acting, terrible script, terrible CGI, terrible direction, just terrible. If you knew nothing about the game this film would make zero sense and actually, if you do know the game, it's just annoying how bad this is. There was a hint that a second film will be coming - for the love of God, just don't!!

Terrible CGI, awful acting... Just terrible.
17 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I had such high hopes for this as it looked very good in the trailers but as with all films at the moment (it seems), the trailer was better than the film itself. The acting was terrible, literally awful. Poirot is meant to be from Belgium but has a terrible French accent. Most of it is CGI, which is also terrible. They spent 90 million on this film and its impossible to think that someone sat back and felt it was money well spent. The best character was Sister Rosetta Tharpe whose acting was probably the best of the whole cast, so much so I'd love to see her play Sister Rosetta in a biopic.

I wanted more
16 April 2022
A very short and abrupt look at a few days of her life. As others have stated it's more a character study than a biopic. They should have made a biopic series really, I wanted to see so much more of her life and see how her world was prior and after she married into that God awful family. What is in the film is very good and gives us a good idea of how life would have been for her but I just wanted to see more.

Slow, dull and far too long.
11 April 2022
This film looked so good in the trailers but it did not turn out that way. Its visuals are stunning but the films itself is slow and dull. The story is pretty boring and goes absolutely nowhere. The actors themselves are great actors but all the characters lacked depth and were very one level and predictable. The trailers make it out to be a dramatic and dark story but it was neither of those things. It calls itself a psychological thriller and I wouldn't say it was that either. It's not what it makes itself out to be. It's also very drawn out, being about 1 hour too long. Overall it was very dissapointing.

Dissapointing and long winded
6 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film is very long winded and frankly dissapointing. It has painted Jackie to be a terrible person who took a selfish approach to her husband's funeral. We learned nothing about how her life was turned upside down by the event, how she grieved or how she actually felt about it all, we were not able to feel for anyone in the film as they simply avoided emotional depth altogether which isn't what you expect from a film about death. JFKs death would have been an absolute life destroyer for her and yet all we see in this film is constant mind changing and lack of depth.

Wasted potential. Just awful
14 December 2021
This film is terrible. Don't waste your time watching it. It has a mostly great cast and every single one of them were failed by the direction of this film. It has a terrible story and script, terrible editing and terrible direction. The film almost feels like three different films in one but each one of them doesn't know what it is. Hurley is by far the worst element of this film, her acting is diabolical. All in all, it's awkward and a little embarrassing, disjointed and empty. Don't waste your time.

A story and musical masterpiece in animation.
9 September 2021
This film is pure magic. Musically it is absolute perfection and the story is utterly heartwarming. Since watching this I have listened to the soundtrack almost daily, each song moves me emotionally. I am a die hard Disney fan but this Sony pictures animation really gives Disney a real hard run for its money. Disney haven't given us anything this musically strong since Moana, Lin-Manuel is such a talent, and if you love him you need to see this film.

If you love good beats and heart warming stories with great strong characters, especially Gabi, you will love this film!

A half hearted attempt at a Christmas film.
28 December 2019
I had really high hopes for this film when I saw the advert graphic on netflix and read the summary. I thought this would be a nice Christmas film to put on to pass the time. I am a huge fan of animation everything from Disney to indie films. This film is just off and seems very half hearted. It's about 50% good animation with lovely texture and 50% terrible and completely lifeless. The main character lacks texture and it seems almost as if they couldn't quite give him a full character profile, sadly he is very dull to watch. Yet, the sidekick has beautiful flowing texture and seems fully rounded as a character. She is far more likeable and is fun to watch. The script was OK but had far too many adult life references in certain areas. Now I enjoy that in children's films because it makes for fun viewing for the adults but, without good animation it is impossible for the adults to stay interested enough to enjoy them, only the kids are still watching and it will be lost on them. I have no issues with the story but it is a a huge shame that everything else in the film only half complimented it. Such a shame as we had high hopes for viewing. I see it would be a great attempt but it really is just that, an attempt.
