Stuber (2019)

Interesting... beyond the action the movies has several messagess

The acting of the principal characters is sound. There is also good action with a tongue in the cheek, despite the killings it's not too serious. There is a message of inclusion, against racism and the movie embraces new tech like EV ( the Nissan performed well) , Uber... and a message for fatherlove. Quit a strange mix... but pleasant to look and listen at, the dialogues were welll written and sometimes very funny, the coversation in the strippers bar. Deserves more than a 6, closer to 7. So not unpleasant to watch and some deeper messages which is rather rare in action movies. The humor makes it bearable.

Marauders (2016)

Interesting plot

5.5 is not enough for this movie. Good acting, swift action scenes and I agree the scenario was probably made for a serie. A lot interesting characters that could have developped more in a serie. It rains much but also in Blade Runner and in Seven. There is worse company. So it could have been better, characters are too much stereotyped, but there is a good tension build up in it. Gives also a view of the rivality between different police forces. FBI with the locals which is a theme you find everywhere in the world. And some grey zone and covert military or secret service operations are completely realistic. Reality is often wilder than the fiction.

Three Thousand Years of Longing (2022)

Marvelous movie, very touching, spritually.

This is a wonderful story about "Be carerful with what you wish for" , impossible loves and accepting other cultures.

Visually it's very well made, I had no trouble to believe that the djinn was real. There is a nice contrast between the East (Turkey) and the West. For me George Miller did a damn good job. The acting from Idris and Tilda was perfect, good chemistry between the personae. And I'm afraid that the movie didn't get the attention he deserved. The story is emotional, spiritual and makes you think about the lives and loves we live.

It's good that a strory about magic can produce some philosophic toughts about our world, how our world is evolving from spiritual to scientific, but science cannot explain all, AI either. So take your time, settle you warmly in your sofa with a cup of tea and a turkisch delight and enjoy this beautiful movie.

Suicide Squad (2016)

Not that bad...

But could be better. There are a multitude of characters and I must admit I don't know them all. I did only read pulp comix when I was a young kid when waiting at the hairdresser. So if you're puzzled it's a bit like in The Avengers, a lot of personae. Also like in X-men, where at the end they focused more at one character, e.g. Logan. Probably Will Smith had to pay his tax bill when he signed on and he never will be a really bad guy, even when he hits Chris Rock. But honestly I don't see that much difference with other superheroes movies. They are per definition unrealistic. The most surprising was Deadpool I. But with number II much less. Music and sound are very present, but a matter of taste and age. Very present and sometimes to loud, but the young ones like it I suppose...?

Like in many things less is more, develop all this characters in one movie with an interesting scenario is difficult. To much ingredients.... but relatively pleasant to watch... I don't see that much diffence with the other superheroes movies. And my preferred one was The Incredibles :-)

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)

Not that bad...

Nicely made, transposition of fairy tale in "realistic" movie.... is a difficult exercise. Enjoyable, a bit slow at moments, tempo changes and the build op the tension is so unequal. Some scenery is spectacular.and visually interesting, the bath of the Queen for exemple. Charlize Theron plays very well the evil Queen, which is a tortured persona. The acting is overall not bad, but not exceptional.

In a bling bling environment, a bunch of loosers collide and the simple plan because a complicated grim one... funny to watch and convincing head actors.

13 Geboden (2017–2018)

Good acting and realistic in the human interactions on the research workfloor.

Very good from the principal actors, no make up or babe appearances. Real life police detective work, humans with their forces ans weaknesses. Interesting to watch, good suspense so far.

Dune (2021)

WOW what a movie for cinephiles

Difficult book to film, but Villeneuve does a good job. Very graphic movie, slow , time doesn't count in the desert....it must grow on the viewer, take your time to enjoy the grandiose landscapes. And then there are the caracteristics of the human race, the betrayals, the cruauty, the murders, the greed and the hunger for absolute power. But also the mysteries and telepatic powers. A very medieval story in the future. I enjoyed it watching. Sound and music are also very original and impactful.

Inhuman Resources (I) (2020– )

It's excellent, gives a good look on inhuman resources

The human resources in our contemporary business world... very good acting of Eric Cantona and surprising scenario. It takes place in France but the stori is very international . Worth a view.

The Sense of an Ending (2017)

Intimistic movie

You must be divorced, older than 60 to understand this movie... I liked, it was emotional in it's way, refection the past , the history.... like they sad, not really the truth...

Gloria Bell (2018)

Good movie with a slow pace.

A slice of life of a divorced woman, very recognizable, on both sides, build mew relationship with people who have a back pack is difficult. The movie has a slow pace, is sparse in dialogues and is really different. I liked it, good head actress, she very well played the role. There is a good sensibility in this movie .

Diamant 13 (2009)

Datk movies, with many shades.

5.1 is really to low for this movie. The acting is good, Depardieu still has it in this movie, he is physically imposing and he doesn't overact, the story is interesting and the direction was ok, not spectacular, but realistic, no fancy stuff, maybe that's the reason for the low rate. The movie has a good suspense. Worth seeing, 6.5 should be more realistic.

The Terminal (2004)

Welcome Kafkaland

This movie is not an exact representation of immigration in the US and I don't think it was the aim of Spielberg to make a documentary on the subject either. It shows us the clash between laws of countries, people and cultural conventions and that all in an airport terminal. The access to the US is refused due to a putsch in his country of origin and an invalid visa. So Hanks is trapped in a terminal. It also shows the life of some citizens of the US, working in the terminal that are descendants of immigrants or are immigrants themselves... There is the clash between the administrative apparatus (Dixon) and Victor in a Kafka like way.

Tom Hanks goes through different stages, from a lost tramp to a hard working guy, learning English, realising the "American dream" and a personal quest (getting the missing autograph of a black jazz musician) with help of his companions in the terminal, in that way the movie is very hopeful and a bit a kind of a fairy tale... and let us not forget the origins of Spielberg himself... he must have heard a lot of that kind of stories.

Assassin's Creed (2016)

Interesting and not that bad

It's an action movie, with a lot of fights. Not a psylogical drama. Indeed caracters could have been developped better, but again action movie with a lot of adrenalin. Visually nice and impressive. Not exceptionaly bad or good.

Momo (2017)

Humoristic and touchant movie.

The story is surprising and should have a better score. It enlightens the difficulties of deaf persons, a subject not often seen in movies. Also the reactions of "good" people in contact with something that is not in their lirtle world...is rather instructing.

Angel Heart (1987)

Special mysterious movie

Angelheart is an intriguing and oppressive movie. Very nice graphic and aesthetic images.

A bit dark , which is normal for a movie about the devil...

A very good performance of Mickey Rourke, one of his best.

And Lisa Bonnet, a small part but difficult to forget even after 18 years when i saw the movie for the first time. Why didn't she do not more movies? Was Lenny in the way?

As "cérise sur le gateau" we have also Charlotte Rampling the enigmatic french actress when a tremendous charme and the incredible Robert De Niro as Louis Cypher....
