Don't Look Up (2021)
8/10
Not really a comedy, but worth a watch
5 January 2022
Unfortunately, this movie is painfully realistic and it is very successful in depicting societies overall disconnection from reality. However it felt like I was watching an alternate reality, with all the actors that are obviously playing real-life public figures.

It is very accurate in showing the superficiality and the distortion of values within the human kind. There are some funny moments and black-comedy humor in the film, but still, the feeling of eminent despair is omnipresent.

The fact that a significant amount of people have trashed this movie, saying it is "nothing like the real world" or "unrealistic" is ironically the very thing which proves this movie to be very, very right.

Great cast, although having Ariana Grande in there playing basically Ariana Grande felt just a little too real for me. Also, the Meryl Streep's photo with Bill Clinton made me chuckle.

I feel like this movie had to advertise it self as a comedy, for this blunt criticism of celebrities and other public and political figures to be possible, or rather, digestible. Alas, it still went over many peoples heads.

I definitely recommend watching it, I'd give it a 7 movie-wise since it wasn't really my style of producing and such, but given the incredibly important message it has, I give it an 8.

Unlike any movie you've ever seen
4 September 2020
I was absolutely blown away by this movie, and couldn't have stopped thinking about it long after I had watched it. First of all, cinematics and photography, scenery, are, in one word, magnificent. It is a bizzare, one of a kind movie, and stands so far above the regular genre standards, that it became so unfairly misunderstood. Everything is thought through, and even though it is long, everything comes together in the end, and it is worth the watch. A quality movie is the one that produces a strong reaction, not always necessarily a good one. This is one of those movies. Not everyone is going to like it, nor try to understand it, but it leaves a certain impression that you can't quite forget. I gave it a 10 instead of a 9, simply because I wanted to get the average up. If you want an original movie, with original story, watch it.

Good, but it something is missing

Warning: Spoilers
The acting is great, I liked the shots, and the movie is overall interesting and original. I do like it, but I don't LOVE it. It has a good start, but as it progresses, we only see Billy's development (kind of), while Layla just plays the naive teenage girl. We are given no explanatiom to why she likes Billy, or how she just goes off with Billy for a whole day, like, does she even have parents? Christina Ricci played the part well, I just feel like they could've gone more in depth with her character. Also, the romance part of the story wasn't as convincing as they wanted to make it be. The film focuses on Billy, who is by the way, a great character, but it ends by leaning on the romantic relationship of the two, which is just not good enough. I feel like the film would've been better if, after Billy almost kills himself and buys Layla hot chocolate and a heart-shaped cookie, he finds the room empty. And then maybe kills himself, idk. Or even if we just get to see some sort of an ending instead of a happy ever after being hinted, which, possibly, ruined the movie for me. It's a solid movie, but just isn't a kicker.
