Man and Cat (2010)
Great Animation Style, cool music, wonderful film
I first saw Man and Cat at the Phoenix Film Festival. The artwork is unique and the music very cool. As a cat owner I find the film very touching. I saw this film again at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival, it seems festivals that were screening my film (The Bolt Who Screwed Christmas) were also screening this one. I loved it the second time around as well. The problem is where to see it again. The director doesn't seem to be anywhere on the web for contact. I would love to work with the director or buy a copy of this film. This is the sad part about many short films in film festivals, you never see them again.
So I give this film at 10 out of 10. Hope to find a way to see it again.
Travesty City (2010)
Cool animation and wonderful music.
Please don't take my low rating of this film the wrong way. The animation style is very cool and the music is wonderful. I think this guy and his team who made this animated short have a lot of talent, and it's been in a few film festivals so obviously it deserves attention.
However, I don't get it. And several of the other film goers I talked to didn't get it either. I know, I know, leave things up to interpretation. I guess the key is, do I want to see it again? To see the animation or hear the music, YES. To watch it as an animated short for the story NO.
But my hats off to a well animated and well scored film
You Only Die Once (1993)
So low budget you have to love it.
This film is very low budget but all the James Bond jokes and references are there. The makers obviously knew their Bond films. It won't win any acting awards and doesn't have anything in the way of special effects but then too many movies are all about the effects and have no heart. You can tell the film makers had fun making this film. Obviiously shot on film, Not Video. The sound is decent and the theme song to the title sequence is quite good. The film is about Blofelch Industries (Blofeld, get it?) poisoning the worlds water supply with Scrotitis, a virus that makes all men impotent. Blofelch has a right hand man named Melvin, I don't think there is a Bond Reference, who is quite odd and eccentric, a seductress Sherly Built (hey a lingerie scene in a Bond like film, what do you know) and a bizarre villain with an acid foaming hand.I posted a ten here as I know some people who don't value the effort of making an independent film will give it a 1. I've seen better but oh have I seen worse. Made me laugh.
