Wolf (2023)
Dark comedy, don't take it too seriously.
I thought this series was a bit of fun and really enjoyed the implausible plot lines. It's a bit different than most BBC output but I personally don't think that's an issue, at least not for me.
The recent Sixth Commandment with Timothy Spall was a great limited drama series, almost an uncomfortable watch as it's based on a true life crime. It was excellent television.
This is very different. I really did enjoy the two detectives, some hilarious moments. Hopefully it was intended as a dark comedy because I thought it was a riot.
If you like your drama come thriller specifically on point then you might not enjoy this. I will watch pretty much anything and I'm not fussy. I personally find most television very forgettable, mostly due to the dearth of shows available to watch. Don't take this too seriously and you might enjoy it.
Harpoon (2019)
Fun and edgy black comedy.
I'll keep it short. I really enjoyed this cracker of a film. Great acting by all three. Entertaining all day long.
Lightning (2021)
Superb Quiz Show - Quick-fire all the way.
I really like this quiz show, as do others in my family. I came to it late, watched the recordings with my Mum, and must say the amount of sheer quizzing they squeeze into 30 minutes is amazing. We were both shouting at the screen constantly, because that's the norm in our family. It's tense and the questions are coming quick-fire while the clock ticks away in the background. Zoë Lyons does a great job of keeping everything moving along nicely throughout the different rounds. Who'd a thought she'd make a great quiz show host!
During each round there's the option to select a dangerous opponent in the hope they get caught out by the ever reducing timer and therefore knocked out, although the contestants don't know how much time is left so it's all about judgement. As is the final round, the contestants are unsure how far to go, will I answer one more question or turn and try to make it back in time to win the cash? Will I be greedy or will I leave with some prize money and some kudos. It will take a special quizzer to get to the end and back and win the jackpot, and as yet that hasn't happened, not in series one anyway.
I think this must have been filmed during the pandemic as there didn't seem to be the interaction between the host and contestants or the option for hugs when the contestant wins the big prize, but hopefully that'll be different for the next series.
Zoë Lyons is such a lovely bubbly character, she's smart, sassy and the banter back and forth between her and the contestants didn't seem forced as is in some quiz shows, indeed, all the contestants seemed to warm to her, and why not!
Here's hoping there will be a next series, there's a lot of potential.
Flinch (2019)
Fun Family Entertainment!
Flinch is entertainment at its best. I'd love to have a go at some of the games, although not sure about the Emu eating food inches from my face or the washing machine hurtling from the sky on a collision course with my face!
I've never seen this type of show on Netflix so maybe that's where all the negativity is coming from. It's good clean family fun, kids will love it as will adults. I laughed out loud and believe me, that doesn't happen very often. Definitely worth a watch.
The Predator (2018)
Fun film, don't take it too seriously!
I enjoyed the film, don't expect Shakespeare though. Spent an afternoon chilling and having a laugh. Some great killing scenes. I don't care about the franchise, it was rubbish anyway.
Peppermint (2018)
Great action flick, really enjoyed it.
It's an action film, and like most pretty unbelievable, so if you can't suspend your disbelief maybe you should give it a miss. If they make any sequels they can beef out the character a bit more.
Can't believe that some of the keyboard warriors who write reviews on IMDB take themselves so seriously. This film was a great afternoon chillout as far as I'm concerned.
