Dunkirk (2017)
It lacked any real thought
The major problem about this movie, was it felt like they were just doing it as some after thought. It had no real heart to it. In fact, a lot of it was just there, and not very convincing either. I had such high hopes for a good movie, about an actual event, and this let down everyone, including all those that served there.
If you are going to do a movie about an actual event, it should have some feel to it. It should make you feel for those involved. It should make you believe it. This did none of that.
If I had not known this was a real event, I would have thought is was just some cheap fake war flick. But the problem was, I knew this was a real event. Many people risked their lives to save those soldiers, and it was made to look like it was some Hollywood stunt.
King Kong (2005)
The only time I like Jack Black
Most of the time when I see a movie with Jack Black in it, I know it will not be worth the watch. But this time, it was actually good. He is still a weak actor, that needs to be carried through the movie, but he had a cast that could do just that in this movie.
The beginning is weak, as they spent to much time with Black, but once they got to the other people, it started picking up. When they got to the island, that is where everything really picks up. The effects are very good in this show, and even though they are needed, the movie is not based on effects. It is based on the story. I can imagine if they had a stronger actor the Jack Black as the lead, it would have been better. But still it was very good.
Fallout (2024)
Lacking everything
From the beginning, where they start out in what looks like a 1950's type of birthday party, but is supposed to be in the future??? Anyhow, the story should have ended when the four nuclear bombs exploded. There was no way anyone would have survived it. But somehow it continued, on with poor storytelling, poor acting, and poor effects. A very low budget movie from the looks of it. Then the people that came into the bunker, were so obvious they were not friendly, I will not go into detail. But everything gave them away. And it just continued to go downhill from the beginning of the show. No need to watch the rest of the season, the first show was painful enough as to how a elementary school could put together a movie. This show needed a lot of help, and did not get it.
The Waterboy (1998)
Sandler's best movie
Not that it was great by any means, but this is what I would call his best. Filled with weak and lame excuses for humor, It lacks any form of structure, and just tries to make fun of something, I am not sure what of though. The weak acting in the movie, goes a long with the weak humor, so at least it is a constant. I found it hard to stay awake through the show, as I came with some friends to see it. They thought it was one of his worst, but I felt it was his best. But even at that, it was only worth a three on my scale, and that is being very giving at that. I have never seen Sandler as a funny actor, but quite a droll one.
Saw (2004)
Just plain Dumb
This is what you get, when you have no story, no plot, and no real direction. I could never see what anyone saw in this excuse for a movie. It lacked everything, and gave nothing in return. It was not even a thriller, as you knew everything that was going to happen. When I saw this, I have never gone to watch any others of this line, as they could not be anything but more of the same.
Just watching this once was more than enough. It was so hard to even stay awake through it. The dialog was severely lacking, in what there was of it. And even the little there was, was not even thought out. It was just a struggle to watch, so like I said, I never went to watch another. And I would never spend another dime on this unskilled piece of dribble.
The Beekeeper (2024)
"When the law fails, then you have me"
I like the attack on these scramming companies, and this movie dose just that. The law has failed to control these companies. And politicians use them. I think the only weak point here, is that the President claimed in Privet she did not know. In fact a Politician likely would have known, and worked to protect them.
But anyhow, the story was very well done, and enjoyable to watch. Excellent cast and crew, that put this together very well. Statham did a wonderful job with his character, as well as the others. The woman that played the Daughter and FBI agent, did very good on her complex view on things. You kind of expected the ending, because it was the way most movies are done. But she kept you wondering which way she would go, with as few signs as possible.
Napoleon (2023)
Both a Genius and a melomaniac
The story covers a lot of Napoleon's history, although not all of it. But I knew when I saw both Riddely Scott, and Phoenix were involved I had to see it. I was not disappointed. I will not go into detail, but there were aspects of things he did, that were not covered. Most of the important things were. I do though wish they had added his involvement with the war of 1812, but they did not put that in. But they made a mistake when Napoleon referred to not having a Navy when he did.
Other than that, a lot of this was very correct, and very well done. I was very happy to see what was done, and how they covered the period, and subjects in this movie.
Unstoppable (2010)
Constant suspense
From when the accident starts, to when it stops, the story keeps you transfixed with wanting to know what is going to happen next. Even though they say what they are going to do, it is a constant "Will it work?" story. You just never know. Just as in real life, you can do things that you know should and usually do work, sometimes things just don't go as planned. This is a story where almost nothing goes right. The two men that get in to help, even have their problems.
It is a constant fight to end this incidence with as little damage as possible. And talks the risk and skill of everyone involved in the story.
Washington and Pine as well as the others did a very good job of carrying out this movie.
A Haunting in Venice (2023)
As usual for her stories
As usual for Agatha Christie's stories, I had the whole story figured out in ten minutes. I took my Aunt to see it, as we like to go and see movies. She is 80, and needs help getting around in some cases.
She likes Agatha Christy, but I am not a fan. She always makes things too easy to figure out to quickly. Her style of writing is to give the story away to quickly, with too many obvious pointers. This story was no different, in that everything was pointed to so fast. As soon as the writer started talking to Poirot, you knew that he was going to leave his vacation. You knew that there was going to be a crime, and that the writer had some part in it. As the story went on, you very quickly knew who all the criminals were, and what they were guilty of.
Even the way of the haunting was obvious. So I have never understood why people liked her stories, as they offer no challenge to figure out.
West Side Story (2021)
Bad Remake
Rachel Ziegler as well as others could not carry their roles. It had nothing on the original, in that it did not have the feel of the show. It was actually boring, and lacked the charisma that the 1961 movie had.
I took my Aunt to watch it, as we both loved the 1961 movie, and were so disappointed at this remake. I can see why the movie did not make a profit, because it did not earn it. There were a few good scenes in the show. None of which involved Rachel Ziegler, as her ability to catty her role was even worse than the others. I do not see why Hollywood thinks she is such a great actress, when the truth is, she sucks.
Near Dark (1987)
One of the best Vampire movies to date
I have a copy of this movie, and have loved it since I first seen it. It is very unique, and well done. A great story, complimented with good acting, and effects. The story does not rely on effects, the story relies on the story, and the acting. Which is the way any movie should be.
The movie draws you in, with very little special effects. The whole production team, the behind the scenes people, did a wonderful job as well. I think every aspect of this movie was very well done.
I liked the character development, as each character was a believable person. Not many movies today work that hard on Character development, and should.
If you like well done horror movies, this is a must see.
