A Good Person (2023)

This film saved my life
5 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
As a young women who has recently gone through a significant life-changing trauma, this film meant more to me than I could describe in a review. Before I watched this film I was planning to commit suicide. It has saved me.

I relate to everything Allison, the protagonist, goes through - her unresolved grief, guilt and the sudden transformation of life. She goes from a girl who has "everything", to hitting the despair of rock bottom, losing her spark. She develops an opioid addiction after an unexpected tragedy, and continues to live with the emotional pain of the event, having continuous suicide thoughts and being unable to face reality.

It's a poignant reflection of the reality of people who have been through trauma. Pugh's performance is sincere and heartfelt, and I can honestly say this film is one of the only things in my life right now that has genuinely given me hope to carry on.

Outstanding
16 January 2022
I couldn't fault the film, it exceed my expectations entirely (and I'm generally not a huge fan of the Marvel Universe as a whole). I deeply respect Tom Holland as an actor, and I think he is the true gem of the Marvel franchise.

Andrew Garfield was a particular highlight, obviously an outstanding actor, and I hope he finally getting the recognition and acclaim he deserves for his depth in the role of Peter Parker (as the "Amazing Spiderman" films were not as well received).

I watched the Toby Maguire movies as a child, and was also delighted to see the best of the old villains return. William Dafoe and Alfred Molina gave brilliant performances and have barely aged a day (in my mind anyway!)

The whole nostalgic theme was of course fantastic, and delivered very well within the story. Huge kudos to the script writers for the plot.

Everyone involved should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

It's mortifying, tasteless and degrading. Mocking innocent children and tarnishing the Royal Family with this utter trash is unforgiveable.

I'm shocked to see so-called reputable British actors involved too. Orlando Bloom, Sophie Turner, Dan Stevens, Frances de la Tour, Iwan Rheon and Lucy Punch?! What's going on?

Alan Cumming deserves to be stripped of his OBE for treason!

Trailer sets the tone

I couldn't get through the 2 and a half minute trailer, let alone the film...

I didn't laugh once
25 March 2021
Like most Brits, I tend to not find American humour funny at the best of times, but this was another level of trash. Sharon Horgan is actually considered a solid comedian, so I was disappointed to see her talents lost to such a redundant film.

Cosy and predictable winter chick-flick
19 November 2020
It's no Oscar winner, let's be clear....

But if you're after a cosy and predictable Christmas chick-flick curled up on the sofa with a mug of mulled wine, this is the film for you.

Boring, not funny
16 March 2019
This film is so dry, too long and dull as anything. British people generally never find American humour funny, but this was a new low for me.

Rather bland, but great dancing
17 February 2019
It's a pretty bland film overall if I'm honest.

Worth scrolling through to watch the dance bits though! Changing Tatum's rendition to 'Pony' by Ginuwine is certainly an experience.

Migraine inducing reality check
31 December 2018
If I'm feeling a bit down about life, I watch this for an instant reality check and pick-me-up. Maybe my problems aren't so bad after all, and I'm blessed to accurately know who is the father of my children.

Wouldn't recommend watching if you've got a headache though as the shouting is constant, and it will probably turn into a migraine.

I watched ten minutes, it felt like ten years

Nothing else to add really. Most bland script I've ever had the pain of listening to.

This film is soul destroying
21 October 2018
Seriously my soul has partly died from watching this shallow, materialistic garbage. None of these women have real problems (they're all part of affluent society), yet the theme of this film is how difficult their lives have become because of an appearance over Christmas from their mothers. It's completely unrealistic, basic and not heart-warming in the slightest. I feel no connection to any of the characters. Don't waste your breath!

Comforting classic
10 September 2018
It's a classic "oh what shall I do today when I can't be bothered to get out of my pyjamas?" sort of show. Also worth watching for Rachel Riley.

Tragic
10 September 2018
I remember when X Factor started there were some actually decent contestants (Leona Lewis, for example). Go forward 14 years and it's full of desperate wannabes with mediocre talent.
