Marti, dupa Craciun (2010)
The whole review is a spoiler so don't read it if you don't want to know...
Paul a married, middle aged, banker has a midlife crisis and is in a months long affair with his daughter's dental assistant. He struggles with staying with his wife and wanting to be with his much younger mistress.
It is obvious from the beginning there is no spark left in the marriage and both Paul and his wife Adriana are just going through the motions of family life. They discuss their daughter's need for braces, her piano lesson schedule, and what to pick up at the supermarket. While their daughter brings them happiness the marriage seems mundane and lifeless.
Paul has illicit trysts with his lover in her apartment and lies to his wife about being on the road for business. His lover gives him the freedom he desires and does not put any pressures on him to leave his wife. He comes and goes at will and that suits him to a point. When he is not with her he is thinking of her and finds excuses to see her.
The best scene of the whole movie is when Paul confesses to Adriana about his affair and who it is with. It is a very emotional and traumatic time for Adriana who I believe gives the best performance.
Lady Chatterley's Lover (1981)
Lady Chatterley's Lover
I love this film. I own it on DVD. The reason I give it ten points out of ten is that it has the incredibly sexy and talented Nicholas Clay in it. He plays Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper of an estate, that is having an affair with the lady of the house. She is married but her husband cannot do his husbandly duties because he came back from World War 1 in a wheelchair. She is an upper class rich woman while he is considered low class and poor. She doesn't work and in the beginning tends to her husband until he decides to get a caretaker for himself. This leaves her with time on her hands to wander the grounds of her estate where she comes upon Mellors nude and bathing himself by the chicken coop. She lusts after him and they strike up a relationship although rocky at first. The have a passionate affair. I won't reveal the ending. I truly believe this is Nicholas Clay's finest work although he is probably known best as his role of Sir Lancelot in Excalibur (he is naked in that movie too). I think this version is best. Lady Chatterley was made into another film in 1993 starring Joely Richardson and Sean Bean but no one compares to British hottie Nicholas Clay.
A Woman's Guide to Adultery (1993)
A Woman's Guide To Adultery
This movie is worth watching just to see Sean Bean's butt which he so graciously exposes in his scenes of his character's adulterous affair. All the main characters are involved in affairs and have different consequences. Theresa Russel's acting is not her greatest in this film. I've seen her in other movies where she is pretty decent (Black Widow). Theresa Russel and Sean Bean are the only actors in this film with any name recognition. Better movies about adultery would be Unfaithful or even Fatal Attraction. At best this is a good soap opera but I think the acting fails to deliver to truly make it a quality film. I only watched this movie because it had Sean Bean in it.
