Rocky Balboa (2006)
simply put
This film is Rocky's knockout punch.... from start to finish, this film was every minute better than I could have ever hoped for. It had the drama, the heart, the action, and the humor that Rocky films had become famous for. Then there was the training montage, no rocky film is complete without it, and good old Sly didn't let us down there either. I absolutely loved it, and am going to see it again tonight with 4 of my friends.
Tarver was surprisingly spot on in his role in the movie, he didn't have the usual "athelete acting" you see so often. My hat is off to him also on a job well done.
And no Rocky film is complete without Paulie and his tough as nails sour outlook on life....he delivered the goods too.
Do yourself a favor, go see it.
Mammoth (2006)
utter trash
This movie looked like it was thrown together at the last minute, very typical of most Sci Fi channel originals. The acting was horrible, and some parts of the movie tried way too hard to show that this flick was "hip" and "with the times". I have to say that the only thing about this movie that remotely interested me was that "River" was in it. BTW, what was up with all of the cartoonish and zaney sound effects? Was this a movie or a real life versions of Looney Toons?
The government agents were totally unbelievable, and the fact that the Sci Fi channel has bombarded me all week with hyped up previews of this flick makes me sick now that I've seen it. The good parts, if you can call any parts of this good, are all the one-liners and scenes in the hyped up previews. Do yourself a favor, and channel up or down if you see this movie on, its not worth the time or effort. I feel much dumber for watching it all the way through.
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
This remakes place in the trilogy
First of all, let me say this.... this is one of the most awesome horror remakes I have seen in a while. Many times you see a "newer" version of an old horror classic and it falls well short of the thrill and chills the original gave you. This movie set the scene in the beginning to show you how much we take for granted our everyday lives, and how normal they are, how dependent we are on the rest of society to remain "normal" and ordered.
Then all hell breaks loose. The action and thrills were on par with the original (which I watched as a child and was on the edge of my seat). This movie did not have Romero's flair, but then again, I guess it wasn't supposed to. My only gripe about this movie at all was that the zombies were fast, not slow. 28 Days later introduced the "fast" zombie, but then they weren't zombies, they were just "infected".... but i know a zombie when I see one. This movie seems to me like it was trying to recapture the audience that went out to see and liked 28 days later. They did a great job, but I just wished the zombies were bit slower and they had've stuck closer to the main script. What really impressed me about this film the most I;d have to say is in the end, when they took the boat and landed on an island.... Fulci's next zombie flick took place on an island... nice hand off, someone did their homework.
