Dune: Part Two (2024)
Another exterrestrial documentary after Avatar 2
Really disappointed. Poor screenplay, super slow, plodding. Great setpieces and sound not make a good movie. The 165 minutes running length could have been easily cut down to 100 minutes.
How does a galactic emperor not have any credible firepower. Almost felt like my school drama team acting on stage and yes, I did sleep through some of them too.
Please watch on OTT and don't throw your hard earned money away.
Will definitely watch Dune 3 on OTT, not hurting my head again.
Filling characters below to complete the review, and this might be a more VFM thing to do than watching Dune.
EOM
EOM.
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
A brilliantly original adaptation!
Kareena's ego aside which led to the #cancelculture takedown of this movie, it is a true masterpiece.
It simmers slowly but ends up engulfing you into its deeply emotional narrative. Could have ended up being very, very cheesy but ends up being pitch perfect. Aamir could have slimmed down on his PK overacting but that is just an aside. Kareena gets her character pat down and Mona Singh portrays the strong Indian woman we all look upto. The adaption tries a bit too hard to stay true to the original, they could have skimped / downplayed a few of the quintessential American tropes, but that is alright.
Now that it is on OTT, super must watch.
Rocketry: The Nambi Effect (2022)
Pitch perfect as a movie, but even more important to know our history
How vested interests can malign even the greatest of our people? Must watch for every Indian especially the useless Bhakts. We have to know and not let these incidents happen again.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Very good book to serial translation
Michael Connolly writes very vivid, descriptive prose and Bosch's step-brother The Lincoln Lawyer was long due for a serial overhaul and this one has nailed it. Tight, yet emotional with good trajectory on character growth. Must watch.
Decoupled (2021)
Absolutely pitch perfect!
Captures the nuances of urbane noveau riche 40 year olds struggling with the meaning of love in their marriages perfectly. And the humour is top notch. Must watch.
Tabbar (2021)
Most Tarantino-esque Hindi TV show ever!
Vicious, twisted, Dark AF. All rooted in deeply nuanced Punjabi hinterland. And a hallucinating, horror ending to boot.
This is Art. Wish these creators had happened to India way earlier. Look forward to their next one!!
Sardar Udham (2021)
Pitch perfect!
What a pitch perfect movie with no jingoism, just a reflection of events as they went down. A tad long (that is why 9/10), brilliantly acted and amazingly shot. Must watch for every Indian, develop some knowledge of your bloodied history.
And Vicky, you made Irrfan proud (this movie was offered to him first).
Sunflower (2021)
In the mould of DK Bose
Sharp, hilarious and pointedly non-conformist. And very adroitly directed. A gem on Indian drama landscape.
Bombay Begums (2021)
Dose of reality!
For all the libtards out there, who are gonna dump on this series, 0 power to you. Really explores the underbelly of Indian corporate, super rich world and comes out dark and gripping. Must watch.
Drishyam 2 (2021)
Waiting for the 3-quel now!
Amazing el naturelle acting combined with a superb story. Slightly pedantic in some scenes (i.e. why 9/10) but an almost perfect movie otherwise.
Even if you can't speak Malyali, worth a watch with English subs!
Ginny Weds Sunny (2020)
Refreshingly new age!
When all kinds of love stories have gone stale and every formula has been tried to death, this is a very in-your-face love story! Worth a watch 💯!
High (2020)
Truly inspired by Heisenberg!
What an amazing treatise on Indian drug laws and what can happen if you challenge the system. Must watch.
Churails (2020)
Amazing Tarantino-esque story telling but Comic!
This is Pakistani TV coming of age. Thank God for that! Saying anything beside the plot will ruin it!
Indian Matchmaking (2020)
The truth is always ugly
All those libtards and feminists trashing this show are just not willing to face the music: this is the truth of Indian matchmaking.
Take it or leave it, you can believe we are a woman-forward society, but we are still in medieval ages. So much better to have these shows expose the underbelly rather than have it "brushed under the carpet", the usual Indian way.
